Chapter 31

“Mr. Kingsley, are you awake?”

Aaron was very surprised, and Landon’s chest heaved violently.

As Landon adjusted his focus, he slowly calmed down.

It became apparent that it was all an illusion; Amelia had not been bullied.

Finally, Landon could see the world clearly before him.

After a three-month slumber, winter had given way to spring, and the trees outside his window were now in bloom.

“Mr. Kingsley, can you see things now?” Aaron peered intently at Landon.

Landon offered a nod.

He observed his typically austere room, now adorned with feminine touches, radiating a profound sense of warmth.

“Mr. Kingsley, say something. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard your voice,” Aaron said, his voice brimming with anticipation.

“Mr. Kingsley woke up, so it must mean he can move, right?”

However, his anticipation dwindled in the ensuing silence.

Aaron furrowed his brow. “Mr. Kingsley, are you still unable to speak?”

Landon’s chest heaved once more. ‘Damn it. I can’t control my vocal cords or mouth.’

He attempted to lift his legs… but they remained unresponsive. The initial shock of waking up turned to sinking disappointment. Landon could only open his eyes…

“You still can’t move?” Aaron echoed the disappointment, but soon chuckled, trying to console him, “It’s alright. You managed to lift your left hand last night, and today, you woke up. Your recovery is already quite rapid.”

Yet for Landon, it wasn’t enough. ‘Foolish Amelia went to Edwards Group alone. Can she make it unscathed? Forget it, the priority now is to save her first.’

Landon slowly raised his left hand, pointing to the phone on the bedside table.

“Mr. Kingsley, you want your phone?” Aaron swiftly handed Landon his mobile device.

After the phone was unlocked with facial recognition, Landon paused once again.

He didn’t know Amelia’s mobile number, nor could he talk to her over the phone directly.

“Mr. Kingsley, what are you attempting to do?” Aaron inquired.

Landon glared at him, opened WhatsApp, and typed: [Amelia]

“Oh, you’re asking about Mrs. Kingsley. She went to the company today for a clock-in and left, but she didn’t request my company. It seemed she went to deal with a personal matter.”

[A personal matter?]

‘Aaron didn’t go with her.’ Landon’s eyes darkened with rage.

He closed his eyes, and when he reopened them, they were filled with anger: [Call her back. Immediately. Right now.]

“Understood.”

Aaron hurriedly dialed Amelia.

Landon then commanded: [Put it on speaker]

Aaron complied without delay.

“Mrs. Kingsley, where are you? Mr. Kingsley is asking for you. Please return now.”

“I’m occupied at the moment,” Amelia replied, sensing something was wrong and asking, “You just said he’s asking for me? Is he awake?”

Aaron glanced at Landon and tactfully responded, “Mr. Kingsley has opened his eyes.”

“Just opened his eyes?” Amelia let out a sigh of relief.

‘It almost scared the shit out of me. I’ve just got 100 million dollars from the Kingsley Group. If Landon recovers now, he’ll certainly reclaim his money.’

“Yes.”

“Then take good care of him. I’ll come home later.” Amelia quickly ended the call.

Aaron tried calling her again, but her phone was switched off.

Aaron looked at Landon with a helpless expression. “Mr. Kingsley, it seems Mrs. Kingsley’s mobile phone has run out of battery.”

Landon took a deep breath and typed with his finger: [How much did she transfer from Kingsley Group?]

“100 million dollars.”

As expected, she kept her word. She took 100 million dollars to the Edwards Group. Wasn’t she jumping into the trap now? Obviously, it’s too late to stop her. I can only approach this from other aspects.’

[Aaron, contact all the debt collectors of the Edwards Group immediately. Let them know that anyone who dares to harm Amelia is against the Kingsley family.]

Aaron was taken aback and quickly issued the order. Then he asked, “Mr. Kingsley, did Mrs. Kingsley go to Edwards Group?”

[Why are you still here? Go.]

“Yes, sir.”

Aaron broke out in a cold sweat and rushed to Edwards Group.

In fact, Amelia didn’t go to Edwards Group; instead, she made her way to the hospital.

Walter had just had fresh dressing for his wound changed and was leisurely soaking up the sun, comfortably awaiting the good news.

Debt collectors holding nearly 100 million dollars in claims were all gathering at the Edwards Group. Once Amelia went there, if she failed to settle the debts, she would not be permitted to leave.

Walter believed that given Amelia’s timid and cowardly nature, she would undoubtedly pay up immediately.

With half-closed eyes, Walter felt increasingly delighted the more he pondered the situation. He was so lost in thought that he didn’t notice when Amelia arrived.

“Dad, are you enjoying the sun?”

“Yes. What?”

Chapter 31

Walter jolted awake and sat up. “Amy, what brings you here?”

‘Shouldn’t she be at the company right now?’

“Dad, your company is in deep debt,” Amelia said, taking an apple and slowly peeling it.

Walter asked nervously, “Have you been to the company?”

“I saw in the car that it was swarming with debt collectors, and I didn’t dare to go in.”

Walter was left speechless.

“Dad, sell the house,” Amelia suggested.

Walter nearly bit his tongue. “Are you out of your mind? If we sell the house, where will we live?”

“You’re supposed to pay off debts. Since the family is broke, you have to liquidate the real estate,” Amelia said, “Didn’t you buy Sandra several downtown shops? Sell those too to settle the debts.”

Walter was aghast. ‘The purchase of those shops for Sandra hasn’t been made public. How could she know?’

“The seaside villa registered under Melissa’s name could be sold for 15 million dollars. If you combine that with the other assets, you’d have 60 million dollars.”

Each time Amelia revealed a secret, Walter felt as if he’d been struck by lightning.

Because Amelia was aware of everything about his financial dealings.

Walter’s face darkened rapidly. “Did you go to the Real Estate Management Bureau to investigate me?”

“I don’t have time for that,” Amelia chuckled.

In her previous life, these secrets were kept hidden until her death. Now, she exposed them to embarrass Walter.

The so-called lack of funds to settle the debts was merely a fabrication. Walter clearly intended to use Amelia’s money to patch up the Edwards family’s finances without affecting Melissa and Sandra’s interests.

Walter had no idea what to say. ‘But Amelia is already married into a rich family. Why should I sell my family’s properties?’

He composed himself and said sternly, “Amy, Melissa bought those properties herself…”

“Without spending family money?” Amelia exclaimed, “Oh my, has Melissa returned to her old line of work?”

Confused by her words, Walter asked, “What old line of work?”

“Finding a sugar daddy. Dad, didn’t Melissa do the same thing to you so that she became your wife now?” Amelia’s eyes were filled with sarcasm. “Dad, you have to be careful not to get cheated on.”

Walter raised his hand in anger.

“What? You want to hit me?” Amelia slammed the half-peeled apple and knife down on the table.

Walter came to his senses. ‘Amelia is now my cash cow, and I can’t afford to annoy her.’

“No, my head is itchy; I was scratching,” Walter pretended to scratch his head and then cried out, “Ouch.”

Amelia remained unmoved, as if she hadn’t heard him.

Walter gritted his teeth and reminded her, “Alas, the sulfuric acid really hurts. Fortunately, it was splashed on my back. If it had been on your face, you would have been disfigured.”

“Yeah, Angela’s aim was so precise.”

When Walter heard the name suddenly, his face changed dramatically. “What?”

“Angela, Dr. Green’s wife,” Amelia slowly curled her lips, her beautiful face filled with ridicule. “You hired her to splash sulfuric acid on you and then forgot about her?”
