Chapter 34
Gazing at the dazzling display of cakes, Amelia felt a sense of unease and periodically stole glances at Gloria.
Noticing Amelia’s subtle actions, Gloria smiled affectionately and said, “Landon asked me to come and bring you home.”
“Ah? Thank you…”
Amelia’s lips moved, and she finally gathered the courage to be candid, “I will repay the 100 million dollars…”
“What 100 million dollars?” Gloria inquired, surprised.
Amelia was taken aback. ‘Did Landon not mention to Gloria that I transferred money privately?’
“Amy, are you in need of money? I’ll provide it for you,” Gloria, thinking Amelia was in financial distress, promptly took out a card from her bag and offered it to her.
Amelia quickly declined: “No, no, I don’t need your money…”
“Just accept it.” Gloria smiled. “You are the heroine of the Kingsley family. You’ve earned it.”
“Gloria, let’s choose the cake.”
Amelia eventually refused to accept the card.
Landon had opened his eyes and would soon return to normal.
By then, they would divorce. And Amelia would earn money to support herself.
“You are just too docile,” Gloria said, reluctantly putting the card away.
The two of them returned home after selecting the cake, without any concerns for Zachary and Sandra in the café next door.
Landon lay on the balcony, gazing at the long–lost colorful world, still feeling anxious.
He had already made all the arrangements, and there should be no further issues with Amelia. But as long as she hadn’t come home, he couldn’t feel at ease.
Landon thought, ‘It’s strange that I actually miss a woman I’ve only been with for a few days. Because she can hear me? Because she helped me wake up?’
That was true.
Landon clicked open the phone. ‘It’s already past three in the afternoon. Why hasn’t she come back yet? Hasn’t she settled things with the Edwards family?’
Landon’s eyes were cold and dark. He was about to send a message to Aaron when a woman’s laughter came from outside.
‘She’s back.’
Landon cheered up and rolled his eyes hard to look at the source of the sound.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t turn his neck yet. He was positioned with his back to the gate, and no matter how hard he tried, it was in vain.
“Landon, we’re back.”
Gloria brought Amelia to Landon. “You two chat for a while, I’ll put the cake in the refrigerator.”
Amelia averted her eyes nervously.
Landon, with his eyes open, was very handsome. He was also more majestic and colder than she had imagined. Even more distant and unreal.
Recalling what she had done to him in the past few days, Amelia burned with embarrassment.
Landon observed her, noting the shift in her expression.
‘She is even more beautiful than when we first met last year.
Previously, she was like a delicate flower, beautiful yet merely an ornament for men. The current her, however, cannot hide her own sharp edge.
Even if she was acting impulsively now, Landon knew she must have a multitude of arguments prepared in her heart, waiting to counter him.
“Why aren’t you speaking?” Landon inquired.
“…I’m sorry…I haven’t used the money yet. I merely borrowed it and intend to return it to you. Your mother said that I am a heroine to the Kingsley family. Is it okay for me to lend you some money?
“Not to mention our collaboration concerning Stonefield’s land. After all, I could subtract 100 million dollars from it.”
Amelia lowered her head. With the most humble tone, she spoke the most irresistible words.
Landon let out a soft chuckle. “Well. I knew it. I only said one sentence, and she responded with a long paragraph. If I say I won’t borrow her money, will she immediately go to receive the thank–you gift from Mom?”
At that moment, Aaron returned. He reported on his work with high spirits, “Mr. Kingsley, the issue has been settled, and you are the largest creditor of Edwards Group."
“What have you done behind my back?” Amelia was aghast.
Landon snorted proudly.
Aaron said, “Mrs. Kingsley, Mr. Kingsley has taken over all the debt of Edwards Group.”
“When did this happen?”
“Just after you left the hospital.”
Amelia suddenly realized everything. “I know why my father didn’t call me. It turns out that you guys settled it.”
“Absolute suppression. For up to seven days, you will be the largest shareholder of Edwards Group,” Aaron said.
Amelia was speechless. Thinking she still had hold of 100 million dollars, she promptly said to Landon, “I haven’t used the funds yet. I will wire the money back to the company right away.”
“No need.” Landon’s tone was one of utter disdain. “It’s just 100 million dollars. It’s yours, as your pocket money.”
“What?” Amelia was stunned by Landon’s generosity.
‘It was 100 million dollars. Not 1 million dollars,’ mused Amelia.
“Amelia, I’m not as miserly as you think.” Landon’s face darkened with displeasure.
Amelia suddenly realized that Landon had an expression today. He had expressed his happiness and anger, full of vigor.
Especially his eyes stood out. When he was deep in thought, they resembled a still pond, inscrutable and deep. When he looked at someone, his gaze was so piercing it seemed to see right through them.
He was indeed Norava’s youngest and most promising businessman.
“Mr. Kingsley, that’s all for the work report. May I leave if there’s nothing else?” Aaron said with a mischievous smirk.
Landon closed his eyes in agreement. Aaron quickly took his leave. Only Amelia was left on the balcony with Landon.
‘This man’s aura is too strong. Even if he doesn’t say anything, I can feel unprecedented pressure!’ With this thought, Amelia decided to leave.
“Mr. Kingsley, if there’s nothing else, I’ll…”
“Give me a massage,” Landon ordered.
Amelia was speechless. ‘He’s so annoying.’
After taking a deep breath and adjusting her mood, Amelia walked around behind Landon and began to massage him.
She had become quite adept at massaging him, her touch traveling from his head down to his shoulders and neck with practiced ease.
Landon closed his eyes in comfort. “We can’t make it public yet that I started to wake up.”
“I understand. Just wait until you can move and walk,” Amelia nodded.
“Starting tomorrow, if you have any official business that you can’t handle, you can make a video call. I will give you advice.”
“Okay.”
Amelia cast a glance at Landon’s left hand, which had been clutching the phone, and noticed the tension in his body gradually easing.
His hand had not regained its normal strength yet, and typing with one hand was arduous and exhausting, but it was his way of communicating with anyone other than her.
‘To be honest, he is a little pitiful. A five–year–old child could kill him. If the rest of the Kingsley family knew he was getting better…’
Amelia’s heart skipped a beat. “Landon, is everything all settled? The servants at home…”
“Mom has already told them what to do.”
“Well, glad to hear that,” Amelia felt relieved.
After massaging his arm, Amelia turned to his leg. Amelia squatted down and placed her hands on Landon’s thighs.
As he was seated, the change in position brought the usual massage spot closer to his abdomen than before.
Amelia felt that something was wrong, so she moved her hands lower with a flushed face and asked softly, “May I continue the massage from here?”
“Sure.”
Landon looked at her rosy side profile, and his mind rippled.
Amelia then began to massage, being careful not to trigger his sensitive nerves that should not be triggered.
After all, he could see it now, and if he turned on again like the last time, she would be very embarrassed.
