Chapter 85
The night was silent, and Landon did not know how many times he had woken up. Each time, he vaguely saw Amelia coming back in his dreams, only to wake up and find himself alone.
Landon picked up his phone to check the time. It was already four in the morning, but Amelia had not returned. ‘Damn it, how dare she stay out all night?' Landon cursed. He stared at his phone for a while and ultimately couldn’t help but dial Amelia’s number.
“The number you dialed is busy now.”
‘Who is she talking to at this hour?' Landon furrowed his brows and thought, ‘After her falling out with the Edwards family, Amelia was practically on her own. Under Melissa’s malicious guidance, she had no close friends. Could she be calling me? Is that why it says busy? It must be that.'
Thinking of this, Landon relaxed somewhat and waited for Amelia’s call. ‘As long as she submits, I will immediately send someone to bring her back.'
However, after several minutes of waiting, there was still no response. Landon couldn’t help but dial again, but it was still busy.
Landon’s eyes dimmed. He finally realized how self-righteous he had been. ‘Amelia seems soft and easy to control, but she isn’t. Now, there are only two possibilities: She is on the phone with someone else, or she has blocked me. At this late hour, the latter is more likely!'
Anger and unease filled Landon. He took a deep breath and called Aaron, “Find a way to get her back.”
Aaron, who had been woken up, was confused. “Who’s her?”
“Amelia,” Landon said angrily.
“Okay, no problém.” Aaron scratched his messy hair, wrapped himself in the blanket, and found Amelia in his contacts before dialing.
“The number you dialed is busy now.”
‘So she…’ Aaron’s face changed sharply, and he hurried to verify with other colleagues, and it didn’t take long. They had all been blocked. ‘That’s bad. Mrs. Kingsley has gone off the grid intentionally.'
Aaron was anxious, sweating on his forehead, unable to sleep any longer. He got up to report to Landon in Landon’s room and seek a plan for the next steps.
“How dare she?” Landon was shocked, overwhelmed by an unprecedented sense of loss. ‘She blocked everyone and then disappeared? What does Amelia want? Will she…never come back?'
Landon’s heart sank, and he felt as if the air around him had frozen, each breath stabbing his lungs, causing waves of pain.
“Mr. Kingsley, what exactly did you do to Mrs. Kingsley?” Aaron asked curiously.
Landon murmured, “I kissed her without her consent.”
“Just that?” Aaron questioned. He thought, ‘Mrs. Kingsley is such a good person. She risked her life to protect Mr. Kingsley, yet she left in anger in the middle of the night. There must be more behind this.' So Aaron asked again, “Mr. Kingsley, there has to be another reason. Think carefully.”
Landon caught sight of a handkerchief drying on the balcony, and his heart sank again. Being single for twenty-seven years, this was the first time he felt anxious about a woman. ‘She wouldn’t have gone to find Daniel, would she?' Landon shouted uncontrollably, “Aaron, use every possible means to find her.”
Aaron followed Landon’s gaze, astonished. “Is that a man’s handkerchief? Mrs. Kingsley…”
“She just ran into Daniel by chance.” Landon glared at Aaron and spoke first. He felt he could doubt Amelia, but others could not.
Aaron’s eyes widened as he thought, ‘Mr. Kingsley got jealous and made Mrs. Kingsley run away. What should I do now?'
“Aaron, I called you here to find a way to locate her, not to just stare at me,” Landon growled in frustration.
“I’ll go right now,” Aaron sighed and quickly notified the employees of the Pinecrest branch.
Meanwhile, Amelia, who was staying at Sapphire Estate, remained completely unaware of everything. She had spent the night comfortably at Sapphire Estate at the foot of the mountain. After waking up, she enjoyed breakfast before taking a stroll through the cherry orchard.
The bright sunshine bathed the earth, and the ripe cherries hung like rubies among the leaves, pleasing to the eye. Since it was the weekend, there were many visitors in the cherry orchard picking cherries.
They came either in groups of friends or as families, with laughter and joy drifting out from the grove.
Amelia sat alone under a tree, watching and listening, and she couldn’t help but smile. The desire to have children surfaced again. Ever since she returned to the past and completed her revenge, it was time for her to pursue the life she wanted.
“Mrs. Kingsley.” A familiar voice came from a cherry tree ahead.
Amelia focused her gaze. “Daniel?”
That nobleman was actually climbing a tree to pick cherries.
“It really is you.” Daniel climbed down from the tree, holding the freshly picked cherries, and sat across from Amelia. “Mrs. Kingsley, are you here to enjoy the picking as well?”
“It’s very relaxing here,” Amelia replied with a slight smile. “What about you? How come you’re here?”
“My grandmother loves cherries. Pinecrest’s cherries are famous, so she sent me to pick some,” Daniel said with a smile, his handsome face illuminated by the morning sun, exuding both nobility and warmth. It made Amelia feel warm but also unconsciously maintained a proper distance.
“Mrs. Kingsley, you aren’t alone again, are you?” Daniel asked, smiling knowingly.
Amelia smiled back, “Is that a problem?”
“I heard Mr. Kingsley isn’t in good health. You shouldn’t be alone here,” Daniel remarked. Clearly, he had already investigated matters concerning the Kingsley family.
Amelia’s expression grew serious. “You investigated me?”
“Mrs. Kingsley, do you know this person?” Daniel pulled out a photo from his phone.
Upon seeing it, Amelia felt a chill of horror. “Jonas?”
“He was following you last night on Kea Lane, so I looked into it,” Daniel said. “But don’t worry. I have dealt with him.”
“Thank you.” Amelia clutched her chest, her face pale. ‘Jonas is a lunatic. If I had fallen into his hands again…’ She couldn’t bear to imagine it and felt a wave of fear.
She thought, ‘If Daniel hadn’t solved the Jonas issue for me, how could I be safe when I ran away in anger last night?”
“Don’t be afraid. He has been sent back to Norava and won’t be able to get out of bed for a while,” Daniel said. Where he noticed Amelia’s fear, he felt sad for her and wanted to protect her.
“Thank you.” Amelia breathed a sigh of relief, forcing out a smile. “You’ve helped me a lot. How can I thank you?”
“I’m just glad to meet you, so no need to thank me,” Daniel replied with a smile. “However, I won’t be here for long. You and Landon still need to be cautious.”
“I understand. Thank you for the reminder.” Amelia closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, her expression was resolute. She thought, ‘I have to divorce Landon. If he doesn’t trust me, why should I risk my life to help him? It’s time to end this once and for all.’
‘After all, he can speak and write now. Even lying in bed, he can control everything. Even with his leg injured, it doesn’t affect his productivity.’
Amelia picked up her phone, took Landon off her blacklist, and then sent him a message: “[Let’s get divorced.]”
