Chapter 93

The car sped down the highway as Amelia stared ahead, lost in thought. Every so often, she glanced down at her phone.

Landon snuck a quick look at her and noticed that she had unblocked Zachary on WhatsApp, making him wonder if she was waiting for him to reach out. His mood soured, and he asked, “What’s your plan?”

“I’m going to see Zachary.” Amelia turned to look at Landon with unease, afraid he’d misunderstand her again. “Don’t worry. I don’t like him anymore.”

“I know,” Landon scoffed. Zachary wasn’t worth his time. Daniel, on the other hand, had some standing as a rival.

“Zachary must have known that Jonas followed me to Pinecrest. He hasn’t reached out just because he’s trying to control me,” Amelia said, her grip tightening on her phone. “I need to see him.”

“And then?” Landon asked calmly.

Amelia felt a little lighter and said, “I’ll threaten him.”

Landon blinked in surprise, then smiled, “You’re getting better at taking the lead.”

“But he’s injured, right? If he doesn’t get treatment, his life is over,” Amelia said, feeling slightly embarrassed by his praise. “Am I being too cruel for using his misfortune against him?”

“You’re not the worst,” Landon grinned.

It might not be a graceful act for an heiress of a powerful family to threaten a man this way, but it was a move that worked, and Landon admired her for it.

However, some things had to be done in order to reach her goals. If her opponent wasn’t being merciful to her, she had no reason to be kind in return.

“You must be tired.” Amelia noticed the tired look on Landon’s face. Knowing he was still recovering, she said gently, “Let the driver take you back first. I’ll have Brooke come with me to the hospital.”

“Wesley is at the hospital. I need to go in for a follow-up examination too,” Landon replied.

Amelia didn’t question him. “Alright, just make sure to keep it under wraps.”

Landon relaxed in contentment as he gazed out the car window at the passing scenery.

After more than three months, he finally saw the familiar skyline in the distance–Kingsley Group building and his territory.

If it hadn’t been for Amelia bringing him back, he would’ve been long dead in the hospital, likely at the hands of Kenneth.

He may be disabled now, but that didn’t matter. He would never allow himself to be controlled again. It was time to take back what was his.

When they arrived at the hospital, Brooke was already waiting.

Amelia fixed her appearance in the mirror, put on bright red lipstick, and stepped out of the car with renewed confidence. Her lips were striking, and her posture radiated strength–like a general preparing for battle.

“If you need anything, just call me,” Landon said, his gaze warm with admiration. She was both vulnerable and strong, a far cry from the countless wealthy women who only knew how to indulge in luxury.

Amelia gave him a quick “OK” and led Brooke to Zachary’s room.

His condition wasn’t looking good–he had just received secondary treatment and was now writhing in pain, with his cries filling the room. With Pamela absent, his screams were loud and unrestrained.

Before Amelia even walked in, she could hear his cries of pain, and it actually lifted her spirits.

She thought, ‘Serves him right. This is what happens when he plays games with a woman. It’s a pity that Sandra didn’t flush his little giry down the toilet while she had the chance.’

“Zachary,” Amelia said as she pushed the door open.

The moment Zachary saw her, all his pain seemed to disappear. His face lit up with joy as he looked at her. “Amy…”

“How’s your injury?” Amelia asked as her gaze dropped. Though the quilt separated them, Zachary couldn’t shake the feeling of being humiliated, as if he was being exposed for ridicule.

He awkwardly chuckled, “Much better now. Thanks for checking in on me, Amy. I knew you still cared about me. Don’t worry. The doctor said it won’t affect anything in the future.”

“You should be telling that to Elizabeth,” Amelia said, wrinkling her nose in disgust.

Zachary stiffened at her words. Since his injury, Elizabeth hadn’t even looked his way. He’d tried reaching out, but each time, she turned him down with some excuse, saying she was too busy.

He knew the truth–Elizabeth had only been with him for sex. Now that he could no longer serve her, she abandoned him, and the only person he could rely on now was Amelia. “Amy…”

“Where is William?” Amelia asked directly.

Zachary’s heart sank as a thought crossed his mind. ‘She’s figured out that William is in my hands. She’s getting smarter by the day.’

“Let’s skip the games, Zachary. Just tell me what it will take for you to let him go.” Amelia sat back calmly, watching him with cold detachment; her composure made Zachary feel anxious.

He thought, ‘She knows about William, and she has the nerve to ask for him? Could it be that her bet with Henry is ending tomorrow? If she loses, she’ll not only lose control of the company but also face charges for embezzling 100 million dollars of funds. Maybe she’s trying to sell her mother’s items to cover that 100-million-dollar gap. That’s it.’

With that thought, Zachary found his confidence again. “Amy, I still love you. I hope you can reconsider–”

“That’s not going to happen. Name your price,” Amelia cut him off coldly. ‘It’s sickening to watch him pretend to care for me. Does he not see how disgusting he actually looks?’

“Amy…” Zachary’s eyes grew red with emotion. “Amy, I was wrong before. But now I know that you’re the most important thing to me.”

“Oh my, this is getting so annoying,” Amelia finally snapped and stood up to walk away. “How long are you going to keep up this pathetic act?”

Zachary, taken aback by her bluntness, hurriedly called after her, “Amy, don’t go.”

“Then let’s have a real conversation. Release William,” Amelia said.

“Fine.” To her surprise, Zachary agreed.

Amelia narrowed her eyes. “What are your conditions?”

“I have two. You can either come back to me or give me the land in Stonefield,” Zachary said.

Amelia smiled, but the chill in her eyes was unmistakable. “In two months, that land will be worth over three billion dollars. Zachary, you’re asking for too much.”

“So you did overhear our conversation.” Zachary’s face turned pale.

Every time he discussed the land with Walter, he’d made sure to keep it from Amelia. He never expected she’d still overhear them, and this made him realize she was more calculating than he thought. He had underestimated her.

Zachary gritted his teeth in frustration. “Amy, since you stole the business opportunity from me, you should give it back.”

“I stole it? Every time you guys made plans, you did it behind my back,” Amelia sneered. “Zachary, business opportunities are everywhere. You’re not the only one with a vision.”

Zachary froze in shock as he pondered, ‘Does the Kingsley family have connections in Lunova too?’

“Since you can’t see the bigger picture, I’ll take the lead.” Amelia stood up, her voice firm, “The hospital will stop treating you.”
