Chapter 105

โ€œMs. Atkinson.โ€ The sales assistant, Lisa, who had just been serving Amelia, immediately dashed out to greet the new guest.

It was Elaine Atkinson. She was a beauty with a slightly fuller figure, but her haughty gaze revealed she wasnโ€™t someone easy to deal with.

โ€œYour manager said the new arrivals are here today. Where are they?โ€ Elaine strutted into the store with her head held high. When she saw the silver fishtail dress Amelia was wearing, even she couldnโ€™t help but be stunned, but her awe quickly gave way to envy.

Elaine erupted. โ€œLisa, whatโ€™s going on? How could you let someone else try on my dress?โ€

โ€œMs. Atkinson, your reserved dress is right here.โ€ Lisa quickly presented a knee-length dress in a delicate shade of blush pink โ€“ a color Elaine usually adored.

But now, Elaine didnโ€™t care about her reserved dress. Ameliaโ€™s silver dress outshone everything. Elaine thought, โ€˜Tomorrow is Mrs. Donna Kingsleyโ€™s birthday party, and with Landon attending, I must be the center of attention.โ€™

โ€œI want that one,โ€ Elaine demanded, pointing imperiously at Amelia.

Amelia, browsing handbags with her back to the commotion, frowned slightly. She wondered, โ€˜Where did this spoiled brat come from?โ€™

โ€œApologies, but that dress is one of a kind,โ€ Lisa said diplomatically. โ€œHow about you try on the one you reserved, Ms. Atkinson?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t care. I want that one. Tell her to take it off,โ€ Elaine snapped, her tone brimming with arrogance.

Lisa was at a loss. โ€œIโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDo you want me to call your manager and have you fired on the spot?โ€ Elaine sneered, her voice dripping with menace.

Poor Lisa was caught between two high-profile customers and dared not say anything.

โ€œUseless,โ€ Elaine sneered scornfully. She raised her chin and marched straight toward Amelia. โ€œHey, the dress youโ€™re wearing is mine. Take it off.โ€

โ€œHmm?โ€ Amelia turned her head and looked at Elaine.

Having been raised by Melissa as nothing more than a tool for arranged marriages, Amelia was no stranger to petty dramas like this. Following her principle of politeness before confrontation, she smiled faintly, โ€œApologies, but Iโ€™ve already claimed this dress.โ€

โ€œThen Iโ€™ll pay double for it. Take it off,โ€ Elaine retorted.

Amelia smirked inwardly as Elaine tried to throw money at the problem. Unmoved, she said, โ€œMs. Atkinson, Iโ€™m afraid you wonโ€™t fit into a size S.โ€

Elaineโ€™s expression froze momentarily before twisting in anger. โ€œWhat does it matter if it fits? Iโ€™ll buy it just to let it sit in my closet.โ€

โ€œWell, Iโ€™m not selling.โ€ Amelia casually resumed browsing handbags. She thought, โ€˜Iโ€™ll never give up what I want to anyone anymore.โ€™

โ€œI had this reserved.โ€ Elaine stepped before Amelia, clearly not planning to back down without a fight.

Amelia was losing her patience when a calm voice interrupted, โ€œMs. Atkinson.โ€

Elaine finally noticed Landon, who was seated in the lounge area. โ€œLandon?โ€ Her face lit up. She immediately replaced her scowl with a sweet smile, hurrying to Landon. โ€œThank goodness, Landon. Youโ€™re finally recovered.โ€

โ€œNot fully. I can only manage in a wheelchair for now,โ€ Landon replied, his tone composed, his expression unreadable.

โ€œDonโ€™t lose hope. I just know youโ€™ll be back to your old self soon,โ€ Elaine said fervently, her eyes fixated on Landon.

To Elaineโ€™s surprise, Landonโ€™s recent illness had only made him even more attractive. Her returning this time had clearly been the right move.

โ€œLandon, why are you here alone? Are you picking out a dress for Mrs. Kingsley? Iโ€™d be happy to help,โ€ Elaine offered eagerly.

โ€œNo, Iโ€™m here with my wife,โ€ Landon replied nonchalantly.

Elaineโ€™s smile froze.

Landon gestured to Amelia. โ€œHoney, come over and meet Ms. Atkinson.โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s Amelia Edwards?โ€ Elaine asked, staring in disbelief at the woman in the silver fishtail dress.

โ€œThatโ€™s right.โ€ Landon extended his hand, his eyes warm and smiling as he watched Amelia approach. She walked gracefully in the silver dress, each step captivating Landon.

โ€œHoney, this is Elaine Atkinson,โ€ Landon said, holding Ameliaโ€™s hand with an unmistakable tenderness. โ€œDid she scare you just now?โ€

โ€œNot quite.โ€ Amelia returned a polite, faint smile, her tone as calm as ever.

Elaine stared at the couple, her chest heaving with frustration. She thought, โ€˜Arenโ€™t they supposed to be in a business arrangement? Everyone knows Amelia married Landon to claim her late motherโ€™s belongings, while the Kingsleys needed a temporary lady of the house. But this? This looks way too affectionate.โ€™

โ€œAnything else catches your eye, Honey? Letโ€™s get them all,โ€ Landon asked.

โ€œThis dress will do.โ€ Amelia tilted her head with a soft smile, and then added, โ€œThough Ms. Atkinson seems to like it, too.โ€

โ€œShe canโ€™t wear it,โ€ Landon replied, patting Ameliaโ€™s hand.

Elaineโ€™s face crumpled with indignation as she pinched her slight belly. โ€œLandon, I am dieting, you know.โ€

โ€œIt still wonโ€™t fit,โ€ Landon said flatly, pulling out his card and handing it to Lisa. โ€œAdd the bag my wife was looking at, too.โ€

โ€œOf course, Mr. Kingsley,โ€ Lisa replied, swiftly completing the purchase.

Elaineโ€™s eyes gleamed with a sudden idea. She said coyly, โ€œLandon, I spotted a dress I like, too. Why donโ€™t you cover it for me?โ€

โ€œYou didnโ€™t bring money?โ€ Landon asked.

Elaine nodded.

โ€œIโ€™ll call your brother. A bank transfer only takes a minute,โ€ Landon replied.

Elaineโ€™s smile froze. Her face contorted as if she had just swallowed a fly. She thought, โ€˜Thatโ€™s not what I meant at all.โ€™

Amelia struggled to keep a straight face, almost laughing out loud. She thought, โ€˜This guy really has no clue. Elaine wants him to gift her the dress, not talk about bank transfers.โ€™

Elaine tried again. โ€œLandon, canโ€™t you just buy me a dress? Come on, given the relationship between our familiesโ€“โ€

โ€œStop right there. My wife is here. Watch what you say,โ€ Landon interrupted firmly, his gaze softening as it shifted to Amelia.

Landon thought smugly, โ€˜Look how upright I am. Amelia must be so proud of me.โ€™

Ameliaโ€™s polite smile faltered at Landonโ€™s inner monologue. She thought, โ€˜Wait, heโ€™s rejecting Elaine for my sake? Who said I needed him to stay faithful?โ€™

โ€œGo change, Honey. Letโ€™s grab lunch after,โ€ Landon said.

Amelia bit the inside of her cheek to keep from reacting and turned to head to the fitting room.

The moment Amelia left, Elaine crouched beside Landon and began her attack. โ€œLandon, sheโ€™s not good enough for you. Before you, she was entangled with Zacharyโ€“โ€

โ€œMs. Atkinson, this is between my wife and me, and itโ€™s none of your business,โ€ Landon said coldly, his expression grim. โ€œIf you insult her again, donโ€™t blame me for being harsh.โ€

Elaine said, โ€œLandon, Iโ€™m just speaking the truth. Everyone in Norava knows she almost married Zachary. Sheโ€™s not โ€“โ€

โ€œBrooke,โ€ Landon called, cutting Elaine off.

Brooke, who had been waiting outside the store, immediately stepped in. Her expression was stern as she addressed Elaine. โ€œMs. Atkinson, please leave.โ€

โ€œLandon,โ€ Elaine stomped in frustration.

Landonโ€™s icy glare bore into Elaine, commanding authority without raising his voice.

Elaineโ€™s indignation gave way to a flicker of fear, but she refused to yield completely. โ€˜How could a man as perfect as Landon belong to anyone but me?โ€™ she thought.

Elaineโ€™s eyes brimmed with tears as she stomped again. โ€œYou donโ€™t need to throw me out. Iโ€™ll buy my dress and leave.โ€ With that, Elaine paid for her dress in a huff and stormed out, tears streaming down her face.

Moments later, Amelia emerged from the fitting room, catching sight of Elaine running out in tears. Puzzled, she asked, โ€œWhat happened to her?โ€

โ€œShe badmouthed you, so I sent her away,โ€ Landon replied.
