Chapter 137
After what felt like an eternity, Daniel finally pulled himself together. When he turned around, he saw Amelia clinging to Landonโs chest in tears, while Landon fixed him with a protective glare. Daniel felt like something was twisting his heart, and the pain was sharp.
Then, Daniel walked over and knelt beside the wheelchair, softly calling, โAmy.โ
Amelia shuddered and looked up, her tearful eyes filled with shock that tugged at both menโs heartstrings.
โCan I call you Amy from now on?โ Daniel asked.
Amelia nodded. โSure.โ
โDid Mom give you your name?โ Daniel asked again.
Amelia froze in shock, her tears momentarily forgotten. She thought, โDanielโs attitudeโฆโ
โIndeed,โ Landon answered for Amelia.
Daniel broke into a smile. His gentle smile cut through all the sorrow as he gazed at Amelia, his beautiful half-sister.
Daniel said, โAmelia, Mom would have wished you eternal happiness.โ
Amelia was speechless, nervously biting her lower lip.
Daniel continued, โMom gave me my name, too. She hoped I would shine as brilliantly as the morning sun.โ
Ameliaโs eyes welled up with fresh tears.
โAmy, Iโm your brother.โ
Daniel extended his hand, his tender smile radiating the warmth of an elder brother.
Amelia stood frozen in disbelief. She didnโt dare to believe that Daniel was acknowledging her just like that. Wouldnโt he have some resentment in his heart?
Landon spoke and reminded her, โHoney, it hasnโt been easy for your brother to find Mom. Donโt let him down.โ
As if waking from a dream, Amelia placed her hand slowly in Danielโs.
โBrotherโฆโ Amelia whispered.
Daniel gave her hand a firm squeeze, his eyes reddening. โYeah.โ
Landon watched the siblings with a quiet smile.
โDaniel didnโt let me down,โ Landon thought.
After leaving the hospital, both Amelia and Daniel had calmed down.
Landon invited Daniel to stay at his place, but Daniel declined, saying, โIโve already booked a hotel; I wouldnโt want to impose.โ
โAlright, then Iโll have someone bring the Amber Vase over later,โ Landon said.
Daniel shook his head. โNo need, itโs not safe at the hotel. You keep it for now. Once the DNA results are in, weโll go back to Pinecrest together to pay our respects.โ
โAlright.โ
Amelia sniffled weakly, completely drained from crying for so long. Her whole body felt limp and listless. Landonโs heart ached for her. After bidding Daniel farewell, he hurried her home.
โHoney,โ Landon said, โyou should be happy about this.โ
โYeah,โ Amelia murmured, leaning against his shoulder with half-closed eyes. โHoney, Iโm exhausted. No more talking. Let me sleep for a while.โ
โAlright.โ
Amelia sank into a deep, dreamless sleep. She fell asleep as soon as she got in the car, slept all afternoon, and didnโt wake up until the next day. No matter how Landon tried to rouse her, Amelia just batted his hand away and kept on sleeping. She was rarely like this.
Landon watched as Amelia slept with an almost comatose intensity and fell into deep thought. The revelation about her past was certainly upsetting, but that was no reason for her to be sleeping like this. Landon wondered if her health had been affected by Patrickโs poison.
โHoney, what time is it?โ Amelia murmured, leaning lazily against the headboard. Maybe sheโd slept too long, because now she felt completely drained. She didnโt even want to get out of bed.
โSleepyhead, youโve slept for fifteen hours.โ Landonโs chiseled face broke into an adoring smile. โHas all that sleep made you weak?โ
โHow did you know?โ Amelia asked in surprise.
Landon said, โI was in a coma for over three months.โ
โGuess all that sleep made me lazy,โ Amelia admitted with a sheepish smile. โIโll get up and head to work now.โ
โAlright, thereโs nothing urgent at work today. Just stay home and get some rest,โ Landon said, keeping her in bed.
Amelia flopped back onto the bed, stretching lazily. โGood thing Iโm a boss now. Otherwise, I could never bear to take time off like this.โ
โLook at you, being such a little slacker.โ
Landon gave her cheek a pinch, then planted a kiss on the back of her hand. โItโs a beautiful sunny day. Why donโt you get up and have something to eat?โ
โAlright.โ
Amelia finally got out of bed.
After moving around a bit, Amelia felt her energy slowly returning. After the meal, Amelia finally felt like herself again.
As Amelia pushed Landonโs wheelchair around the yard, she said, โLaziness doesnโt pay. The more one slacks off, the weaker one gets.โ
The scorching summer sun at 9 a.m. was already intense, but Amelia found it even more pleasant and continued basking in its warmth. Landon couldnโt take the heat anymore and asked, โArenโt you bothered by this sun?โ
โItโs so warm and toasty.โ Amelia closed her eyes and tilted her face up, letting the sun warm her from every angle.
Landon was speechless. He wondered, โMost girls are afraid of sunburn. Why isnโt she?โ
Looking at her skin again, under the sunlight, it was tanned with a rosy glow, appearing even more dewy than before. What magical genes she must have possessed to have such radiant tanned skin.
โHoney, donโt you think this feels nice?โ Amelia asked.
Landon was already breaking a sweat under the scorching sun, and all he wanted was to retreat to the shade and cool off. But since Amelia loved soaking up the sun, heโd stay by her side.
โIt feels nice,โ Landon said.
โThen letโs stay here and soak up the sun a little longer.โ
Landon hesitated before saying, โAlright.โ
In the presidential suite of the hotel, Daniel tossed and turned all night, his face looking pale. Micah Lynch, the accompanying assistant, cautiously asked, โMr. Zuckerberg, are you really going to acknowledge Ms. Edwards as family?โ
โSheโs my sister,โ Daniel said.
Daniel fixed Micah with a steely glare. โSheโs your boss, too. Understand?โ
โI understand, Mr. Zuckerberg. But will Mr. Porter Zuckerberg really approve of you bringing Ms. Edwards back home?โ Micah asked worriedly. Those two back home werenโt to be messed with.
Daniel sneered. โWhat good would his objection do? If heโs really that capable, let him disown me, too.โ
Micah fell silent, too frightened to say another word.
Daniel paced restlessly in the presidential suite, his brows deeply furrowed. Finally, he came to a stop before the floor-to-ceiling window.
โNoravaโs sky is so much clearer than Lunovaโs,โ Daniel said. โMaybe Amy wouldnโt even want to go back to Lunova at all.โ
โWell, Ms. Edwards already has a family,โ Micah reminded him cautiously.
โLandon is quite a remarkable man,โ Daniel said, narrowing his eyes. โUnfortunately, he canโt walk.โ
Micah was shocked. He wondered if Daniel was planning to break up their marriage.
โHave Morgan examine him. If he can be curedโฆโ Danielโs voice trailed off.
Landon waking up after three months in a coma and recovering to this extent was nothing short of a miracle. They couldnโt really ask for more than that. But when it came to a son-in-law, the Zuckerberg familyโs standards were sky-high.
Daniel stood by the window, gazing at Noravaโs cityscape. Slowly, his brows furrowed in thought.
