โYeah,โ Amelia answered. She then revealed the will to Daniel.
Danielโs chest began to pound. โAmy,โ he said firmly, โDonโt worry. I swear Iโll find William!โ
Amelia nodded. โI promised his wife Iโd bring him back safe and sound. But someone is trying to stop me from seeing him.โ
โDo you know who that person is?โ Daniel frowned.
Amelia shook her head. โI donโt know. Zachary knew something, but just as I was pressing him for answers, he was shot dead.โ Someone seemed to deliberately keep Amelia from seeing William.
โBut none of this ever happened in the past!โ she thought.
Amelia and Landon had yet to uncover who had been pulling the strings. The mastermind knew how to always be one step ahead.
โIโll take over from now on,โ Daniel said, his face stern as he looked around. His commanding presence was unlike most businessmen.
Amelia shot Landon a worried look. However, he gave her a reassuring smile. โWell then, weโre much obliged to you, Daniel.โ
Hearing that, Daniel shot Landon a sideways look of disapproval. He was somewhat annoyed by how Landon called him. Daniel sneered. โMainly, itโs because youโre not quite up to it physically.โ
Landon fell silent, clearly stung by Danielโs blunt remark.
โDaniel, please donโt say that,โ Amelia said quickly.
โDid I say something wrong?โ Daniel challenged. โHis legs arenโt working right.โ
Amelia was speechless. She sighed inwardly. โThatโs a tough blow!โ
โDonโt worry, Daniel. Iโll recover just fine,โ Landon said, eyeing Daniel with a thoughtful expression.
โLook at that guy,โ Landon thought sarcastically. โI had just joined his family, and heโs already trying to put me in place? Imagine what heโll do in the long run.โ
โWhat if I never recover? Is he going to find Amy a new husband?โ Landon thought wryly.
โLetโs go. Iโll take you home,โ Daniel said, already heading out.
Landon looked down at his legs, barely resisting the urge to stand up. Meanwhile, Amelia thought he was upset and gently comforted him, โHoney, donโt be upset. I know youโll get better!โ
โAre you sure about that?โ Landon looked up at Amelia, his eyes full of sorrow.
Landonโs sorrowful gaze made Ameliaโs heart ache. She nodded firmly. โOf course. Youโve always been full of miracles!โ
He asked softly, โBut, honey, what if I can never walk again? Would you leave me?โ Landonโs voice dropped, heavy with the weight of Danielโs blow.
He then voiced his thoughts, โIf even my wife canโt stand me, whatโs the point of living?โ
Amelia was startled. She said emphatically. โWhat makes you say that?โ
โTalk is cheap. Iโm recording this,โ Landon said, pulling out his phone and opening the voice recording app. Then, with a playful yet insistent tone, he asked, โAmy, would you ever leave me?โ
Amelia replied firmly, โIโll never leave you!โ
Chapter 139
Landon asked softly, โPromise me you wonโt ever get tired of me, Amy?โ
Amelia said firmly, โYes, absolutely. I promise!โ
A mischievous grin flashed in Landonโs eyes as he put away his phone, feeling quite pleased with himself. Meanwhile, Amelia was blissfully unaware sheโd just fallen for Landonโs little trick.
It wasnโt until years later, during an argument that brought them to the brink of divorce, that Landon pulled out the voice recording. Only then did Amelia realize she was duped.
Landon had been scheming against her from the start. At that moment, all Amelia cared about was Landonโs fragile pride.
After leaving the police station, Amelia made a point of seeking out Daniel for a private talk. โDaniel, could you be a bit more tactful when speaking to him? Donโt provoke him.โ
โProvoke him? You mean that guy?โ Daniel let out a derisive laugh.
Daniel was fearless of a douchebag like Landon. He strongly suspected that Landon was putting on a pitiful act to manipulate his sisterโs feelings.
โDaniel,โ Amelia sighed, her eyes filled with heartache for Landon. โIโve witnessed every bit of progress heโs made along the way. Itโs been tough for him.โ
Daniel scoffed. โAmy, youโre too naive.โ He paused, then added with a meaningful look, โKindโhearted people like you are easy prey for deception.โ
Ameliaโs heart skipped a beat, but she soon composed herself. โDaniel,โ she said calmly, โIโm not as naive as you think.โ
Amelia was no longer blindly kind after everything sheโd been through. She had learned to set boundaries.
โIf Landon ever betrays me,โ Amelia thought, โI wonโt foolishly walk away without carrying anything like I did back then.โ
โAt the very least, Iโll take half of his company,โ Amelia thought with a determined huff.
โAmy,โ Daniel said solemnly, โNo matter what youโve been through in the past, youโll never be alone again. Iโll always protect you.โ
After a momentโs thought, Daniel pulled out his Black Card and pressed it into Ameliaโs hand. โThis is my Black Card, no spending limit. Use it however you want.โ
โHuh?โ Amelia was dumbfounded.
โMy motherโinโlaw keeps handing me cards, and my husband casually gives me unlimited allowances,โ she thought. โNow that Iโve got a brother, heโs doing the same thing too!โ
Amelia held the card with mixed feelings, a little taken aback by Danielโs gesture. โBut, we donโt even have the same dad,โ she said hesitantly.
Daniel said solemnly, โSharing the same mother is more than enough for me.โ
Amelia felt warmth in her heart as she finally accepted the Black Card, her worries melting away. She couldnโt believe it. Her childhood wish of having a big brother had come true.
After bidding Daniel farewell, Amelia happily hummed and skipped back to the Maybach, feeling on top of the world. Meanwhile, Landon shot her a jealous look and said, โYouโre in such a good mood, huh?โ
โAmelia never hummed like this before,โ Landon thought bitterly.
โTaโda!โ Amelia proudly presented the Black Card with a bright face, her chin held high. โMy brother gave it to me!โ
โHmph!โ Landon scoffed. He then snorted dismissively. โAs if youโre short of money.โ
โSays who?โ Amelia asked, carefully tucking the card away in her wallet as if it were a treasure.
Chapter 139
Landonโs face instantly darkened. โAre you short on cash? What about those hundreds of millions just sitting in your bank armโฆโ
โThat money? So what? Why are you complaining because I have too much money? Iโm not complaining,โ Amelia returned with a playful grin.
This was the first time Daniel spoiled Amelia, and she felt incredible. However, Landon fell silent.
Aaron, fearing his boss might impulsively give away the company in a fit of anger, quickly asked, โMr. Kingsley, where to next?โ
โBack to the office.โ Landon sat with a deep frown, sulking the entire ride. In contrast, Amelia hummed a cheerful tune.
It wasnโt until Landon finally asked, โHow much longer until we go see the property in Stonefield?โ
Amelia answered, โLet me checkโฆโ
Amelia flipped through her calendar and pointed to May 7th. โOne more month to go,โ she said.
โStill that long?โ Landon frowned impatiently.
โLooks like Iโll have to drum up some more money for her,โ Landon thought. โI must never let her be swayed by someone elseโs cashโฆโ
โTake it easy, Landon. You canโt rush these things,โ Amelia said, putting down her phone and cheerfully humming again.
Landon frowned, his gaze lingering suggestively on her chest. โSays who?โ His face revealed a smirk.
โHey!โ Amelia suddenly caught on and instinctively covered her chest, flustered. โYouโre getting off track, Landon!โ
The marks from the other night still havenโt faded. โNo way am I letting him go wild again,โ she thought.
Landon leaned in close, his breath warm against her ear as he whispered teasingly, โSo, should we take it slow tonight, or do you want things to get a little moreโฆ heated?โ
โGet lost!โ Amelia blurted out, her cheeks burning as she pushed Landon, mortified that heโd dare tease her like that in public.
โSeriously? Making dirty jokes when the driver is around?โ Amelia thought, her cheeks burning.
Meanwhile, Landon burst out laughing. His hearty laughter echoed through the car. Aaron and the driver exchanged confused looks. โWhatโs so funny?โ
The Maybach rolled to a smooth stop in front of the Kingsley Groupโs headquarters. The second Amelia stepped out, a bank manager hurried over. โMrs. Kingsley,โ he said respectfully, โIโm here to deliver your card.โ
โA card? What card?โ Amelia frowned, instinctively declining as she helped Landon out.
The manager smiled. โMrs. Kingsley, I understand your confusion. This is your Black Card.โ
โHuh?โ Amelia stared blankly at the exclusive Black Card, a symbol of wealth and status that seemed completely out of her league.
โWith my meager savings, thereโs no way Iโm qualified for a Black Card!โ Amelia thought in disbelief.
