Chapter 148

"What?!" Joanna couldn't help but raise her voice. Even her impeccable manners completely fell apart at that moment.

"Didn’t you want me to marry her, Aunt Joanna? Well, I’m just granting your wish." Daniel leaned back against the sofa, a frosty smile on his lips.

Joanna looked at Daniel and reproached him, "Daniel, Edith is an innocent girl. You can’t just toy with her feelings like that!"

Daniel’s smile widened, and the coldness in his eyes intensified. "Aunt Joanna," Daniel scoffed, "Did you expect me to fall for her at first sight and pledge undying loyalty?"

"You-"

"My mother was so beautiful, so refined. But it didn’t take my dad long to get tired of her and end up in your bed, did it?"

"Daniel!" His words were so offensive that Joanna’s face turned pale, then flushed.

"What? Did I get it wrong?" Daniel’s face turned cold, his presence intimidating even without anger. "Why don’t we bring in the seniors who knew the truth back then and let them judge?"

Joanna’s mind was in turmoil. After struggling to compose herself, she said firmly, "Daniel, if you insist on treating Edith this way, I’m afraid I cannot hand over the pill to you."

Daniel shot back coldly, "Fine, I’ll dump her right now."

"Daniel!" Joanna had just managed to regain her composure, but it shattered again. Her finger trembled as she pointed at him. "Have you lost your mind? How could you do this to her?"

Daniel sneered, "I’m not the crazy one. My mother was driven mad by someone. And we both know who’s responsible."

Joanna was both furious and terrified, her vision swimming. ‘Could Daniel know everything that happened back then?‘ she thought, panic rising.

‘Impossible! I left no loose ends. When that man took Catherine away, he’d sworn he’d never interfere in my life again.‘

"Aunt Joanna, I’ll marry Edith the moment I get the pill." With that, Daniel stood up and walked out.

Joanna hurriedly exclaimed, "Our project has been suspended, and Mr. Delmar won’t allow it to continue unless we give him the pill!"

"What?" Daniel spun around, clearly shocked. Judging by his reaction, he had no idea about this. Daniel wasn’t the one behind it.

‘Who exactly is this boss Mr. Delmar keeps mentioning?‘ Joanna wondered. ‘Who in Lunova would be audacious enough to mess with the Zuckerberg family’s interests like this?‘

Joanna was utterly baffled. Suppressing her frustration, she patiently laid out the recent crisis and then, with a glimmer of hope, asked, "Daniel, you can handle this, can’t you?"

"Maybe yes, maybe not," Daniel mused.

‘Tuff said the project shutdown was Landon’s doing. Could the Meyers family’s expulsion be his work?‘

‘If so, impressive. Landon breaks right through the trap set for me. Guess I have underestimated him.‘

"You can’t do it?" Joanna sighed helplessly. "Then we’ll have to give the pill to Mr. Delmar. As for you and Edith, do whatever you want."

As she spoke, Joanna kept a close eye on Daniel’s expression. Deep down, she still held onto hope.

‘Perhaps Daniel will go to Mr. Delmar for the pill and save the Meyers,’ she thought. ‘Or perhaps, for old times’ sake, he won’t be too hard on Edith.

Of course, if Edith ends up having Daniel’s child, I’ll bring the baby home and raise them as the next family heir.

If an adopted son won’t obey, a grandson surely will.

In the end, I’ll still have the Zuckerberg family firmly under my control.

"Of course, I’ll dump her. Whether she lives or dies is none of my concern," Daniel said coldly.

Joanna stared at him, eyes wide with disbelief.

‘If he doesn’t want Catherine’s belongings, what leverage do I have left over him?‘ Joanna thought desperately. Even after Daniel had walked away, Joanna was still at a complete loss, unable to devise any countermeasures.

Meanwhile, her naive niece was still cheerfully preparing meals and desserts in the kitchen, blissfully unaware that she and Daniel had never consummated their marriage. It was all just an illusion that Daniel carefully crafted.

Daniel was in high spirits as he called Landon from his new number. He teased, "Impressive reach! I didn’t expect your influence to stretch to Lunova."

"Problem solved yet, Dan?" Landon chuckled.

"It’s settled. But are you sure that’s enough to get Velmira?" Daniel asked, worry in his voice. "20 billion dollars is nothing compared to the Zuckerberg family. What Joanna wants is total control of the entire family."

"She doesn’t have to give it. As long as Tyler agrees," Landon said with a smirk. He had everything under control, perfectly grasping Tyler’s nature, which was both greedy and stingy.

Daniel had to hand it to him. "By the way, Landon, do you know Tuff?"

"Don’t mention him," Landon said curtly. His face stiffened instantly.

Hearing Landon’s tone, Daniel paused. ‘Everything he did was not executed through Tuff?

‘Then who the hell is he, to be able to halt a massive project like Azureveil at will?‘ Daniel was puzzled.

"Dan, Amy misses you. Since you’ve got a new number, you should keep in touch with her more often," Landon said.

Daniel’s eyes softened at the thought of his sister. "How’s Amy doing?"

"She’s doing great," Landon said.

"That’s a relief," Daniel nodded. He let out a low chuckle. "Landon, from now on, I officially accept you as my brother-in-law."

"Dan, saying it like that rubs me the wrong way!" Landon huffed. "Admit it! You can’t get over my bum leg, can you?"

Daniel was speechless for a moment. ‘Okay, maybe I do mind it a tiny bit,‘ he thought, ‘But it’s not like I’ve ever said it to his face!"

"My wife doesn’t even mind my leg, so who are you to judge?" Landon called out to Amelia, who was reading on the balcony, "honey, your brother has a problem with my leg!"

"No, don’t be silly, Honey. Don’t overthink it." Amelia quickly put down her book and hurried over to comfort him. "My brother isn’t that kind of person…"

Daniel quickly hung up, grinding his teeth as he cursed, "What a dick. So childish! What kind of domineering CEO acts like that?" he muttered.

Landon gently stroked his beloved wife’s hand, a smile playing at his lips. "We’ll be getting that Velmira soon," he said.

Amelia’s eyes lit up with surprise and delight. "Really? That fast?"

"Your brother came through," Landon said.

With tears welling up in her eyes, Amelia clung to Landon. "Having both of you in my life is my greatest blessing."

"Hmph, as if you could see the alternate universe," Landon teased affectionately before pressing a tender kiss to her cheek.

Landon’s gaze flicked down, catching the hickey peeking out from beneath her collar, and desire flared instantly. He asked softly, "Sweetheart, once you’ve recovered, shall we start a family?"

"Of course!" Amelia answered without hesitation.

She thought, ‘Now that I have my husband and my brother, all that’s missing is a child to complete our family.

"If possible, I’d love to have one of each–a boy and a girl. That would make our family truly perfect!‘

Landon teased, "But I’m not really in a hurry to start a family just yet."

"Why?" Amelia asked, puzzled.

Landon teased, "We can’t get intimate if you’re pregnant, honey."

"What?" Amelia’s face flushed. "Ugh! You’re disgusting!"

Just as the two were playfully bantering, Brooke burst in and announced, "There’s news about William!"
