Chapter 174
Zuckerberg Estate was where Catherine was confined after her mental breakdown. To confine Catherine "better," Joanna even renovated the Zuckerberg Estate. With box-like walls, one could only see a box-like sky there. It felt like a prison. Catherineโs madness deepened alarmingly soon after she moved in, and Daniel and the others were sending Joanna there.
โDaniel! Call the police, and have them arrest me,โ Joanna shouted fiercely.
Daniel sneered, โFor the Kington Gang, springing someone from prison is childโs play.โ
Joanna was stunned.
โDamn it, that brat has thought of everything!โ Joanna seethed inwardly.
โDaniel, please let me go to Zuckerberg Estate and stay with my mom!โ Maisie pleaded. โI promise Iโll keep a close eye on her.โ
โAlright,โ Daniel agreed.
Maisie rushed happily to Joanna, beaming. โMom! From now on, weโll live together.โ
Joanna stared coldly at her daughter and thought, โDaniel thinks he can keep me locked up forever? Dream on!โ
โJoanna, if you dare take a single step out of Zuckerberg Estate, I swear Iโll kill you right then and there.โ Daniel fixed her with a cold, piercing glare, sharp as daggers.
Joanna locked eyes with Daniel in a tense standoff.
After a long standoff, she finally yielded, was sent to Zuckerberg Estate, and was guarded by men assigned by Daniel.
With things having come to a close, Edith cast one last glance at Danielโs resolute profile before slipping away quietly.
A flash of pale green skirt caught Danielโs eye. He turned his head around. โEdith!โ
โHuh?โ Edith stopped in her tracks, almost instinctively, fidgeting nervously. โUm, is there something else?โ she stammered.
โThank you,โ Daniel said, stepping toward Edith.
Backlit, he moved with effortless grace, his silhouette exuding nobility.
For a moment, Edith felt dazzled, but she quickly composed herself, smiled, and said, โNo need to thank me. It was my auntโs fault from the start. We should have made amends much sooner.โ
Daniel looked at her and asked, โSo, whatโs next for you?โ
โIโll go back to Pinecrest and continue teaching piano,โ Edith said.
Danielโs eye twitched as he took a deep breath. โI mean, the tattoo on your backโฆโ
โIโll get it removed,โ Edith said firmly.
โNo way am I joining a gang! I only want to be myself,โ Edith thought firmly.
โItโs no use washing it off. Youโre already officially registered with the Kington Gang, so donโt put yourself through that pain for nothing,โ Daniel said with a light chuckle.
Silly girl, the gang doesnโt rely on tattoos to identify its members, Daniel thought.
Edith didnโt have any special skills or value that the Kington Gang could use, so Daniel figured Joannaโs purpose was to protect Edith and position herself as the future hostess of the Zuckerberg family.
If I donโt marry her, all of Joannaโs schemes will be pointless, Daniel thought.
โOh, but I still want to get it removed,โ Edith frowned. โI hate it. It feels like itโs soiling my soul.โ
Daniel warned, โItโll hurt a lot.โ
โIโm not afraid.โ Edith shook her head and gave Daniel a once-over. โSo, youโฆ Have you fully recovered?โ
โYes,โ Daniel replied.
โCongrats. Goodbye,โ Edith said.
With that, Edith hurried away, not wanting to stay for one more second longer.
Daniel felt hollow inside. Even after her figure vanished from sight, the emptiness lingered.
With Joanna locked away, peace returned.
โNow, all thatโs left is to wait for the police to uncover the truth about my momโs death,โ Amelia thought, feeling relieved.
โYeah.โ A flicker of concern crossed Landonโs eyes.
โMy legs have healed now. Guess it wonโt be long before the higher-ups show upโฆโ Landon thought, a hint of tension in his eyes. โI hope theyโll come laterโฆ Much laterโฆโ
Beaming, Aaron reported, โMrs. Kingsley, weโve received a bid for the land in Stonefield, over three billion dollars.โ
Landon stared at the calendar, stunned.
Three months had passed since they purchased the land in Stonefield.
โWas Amelia a clairvoyant?โ Landon wondered. โAs she predicted, the land in Stonefield skyrocketed to over three billion dollars.โ
Aaron asked excitedly, โMrs. Kingsley, should we continue with the sale?โ
โWe made three billion dollars in three months. What a brilliant deal!โ Aaron sighed inwardly. โMrs. Kingsleyโs business acumen is as sharp as Mr. Kingsleyโs.โ
โWhoโs trying to buy the land?โ Landon asked, frowning in suspicion.
โJust recently, the highest bid was only 700 million dollars. Now, someoneโs offering over three billion dollars? Whoโs this sucker with more money than sense?โ Landon wondered.
โMr. Kingsley, the buyer is Merry Group,โ Aaron replied.
Landon was shocked.
Merry Group was a global conglomerate specializing in large-scale real estate development and five-star hotels.
โBut Norava doesnโt have any major tourist attractions that would warrant investment from the Merry Group,' Landon thought skeptically.
โYes. Sell it,โ Amelia said without hesitation.
Aaron wanted that three billion dollars, too, but the final say was Landonโs.
Landon thought about it. Then, he turned to Amelia and asked, โHoney, have you ever heard of the Merry Group?โ
โNo,โ Amelia said, shaking her head.
At this time in her previous life, she had already married Zachary. She was living a miserable existence in Foster Villa, unloved by her husband, drilled by her in-laws, with no mind to spare for the outside world.
All she knew was that Zachary poured the money into mining investments after he sold the land. Then, the Foster familyโs capital kept compounding, growing exponentially.
โLetโs sell it! Then invest in the mining project I mentioned earlier,โ Amelia said decisively.
Hearing the new project, Aaron perked up with curiosity and asked, โMrs. Kingsley, do you think we could make money from mining too?โ
โYeah. Letโs buy Yeatsmarsh Mountain at the border between Pinecrest and Norava. It contains abundant iron ore deposits,โ Amelia said.
Landon looked at Amelia deeply. Then, he turned to Aaron and said, โDo as she says.โ
โOn it!โ With that, Aaron left happily.
Aaronโs gut told him that Amelia had an impeccable eye for investments, and they were about to make a killing again.
Landon playfully pinched Ameliaโs cheek and teased, โAfter making money from mine, whatโs our next big venture?โ
โI donโt know. Thatโs all I got,โ Amelia shrugged.
She never cared about the business world in her previous life. And sheโd already told Landon about the two most profitable projects she knew.
โHoney, if youโve got any golden opportunities, donโt keep them to yourself. Every penny we make is ours,โ Landon said, studying her with a skeptical yet intrigued gaze.
Amelia said with a hint of exasperation, โSeriously, thatโs all Iโve got.โ
โHow did you find out about the mining project?โ Landon asked.
โZachary mentioned it to me, too,โ Amelia said.
โZachary again?โ Landon asked, thinking it truly perplexing.
โSheโs so sure weโll make a killing, just because Zachary mentioned it?โ Landon couldnโt help but wonder.
Then, he thought, โYeatsmarsh Mountain lies deep in the wilderness between Pinecrest and Norava, a remote area with a struggling economy and poor transportation links.
โEven if there is iron ore, weโd have to build a proper road first just to get it out for sale. But carving a road through those mountains would cost a fortune.
โWithout absolute certainty about the mountainโs abundant iron ore deposits, people wouldnโt dare make such a reckless investment.
โBut judging by Ameliaโs attitude, she was convinced this venture would turn a profit.
โItโs just like when she was sure the land in Stonefield would skyrocket to billions of dollars.
โIt isnโt about business acumen anymore. Itโs solid insider information. The Foster family must have connections everywhere.โ
With those thoughts in mind, Landon narrowed his eyes and decided to meet Matthew.
