Chapter 241

โ€œAhemโ€ฆโ€ Tuff cleared his throat and quickly turned his gaze to the car window. โ€œWho said I like your sister? We were just pretending to date to trick Aiden.โ€

Landon watched as Tuffโ€™s ears slowly turned red and couldnโ€™t help but laugh.

โ€˜Wifey was right, Tuff really does have a thing for Kayla,โ€™ he thought. But Kayla had ended up as the villain againโ€ฆ

As that thought crossed his mind, Landon couldnโ€™t bring himself to smile anymore. He gloomily rubbed his temples.

Tuff, unwilling to give up, finally managed to get through to Kaylaโ€™s phone. The moment she answered, he blurted out his usual, โ€œDarlingโ€ฆโ€

โ€œAhem!โ€ Landon choked on his own saliva.

โ€˜Thatโ€™s way too cheesy!โ€™ he thought.

Tuffโ€™s handsome face turned bright red. The fake relationship was already over, so why was he still calling her โ€œdarlingโ€ out of habit?

โ€œLandon, whatโ€™s wrong with you?โ€ After a brief silence, Kaylaโ€™s cold voice came through the phone.

Tuff didnโ€™t have time to explain to Landon. He quickly said, โ€œKayla, itโ€™s me, Tuff.โ€

There was another silence on the other end. Tuff frowned, feeling uneasy.

โ€˜Now that Kaylaโ€™s decided to play the villain, will she even bother picking up my calls anymore?โ€™ Tuff worried to himself.

โ€œTuff?โ€ She sounded surprised.

Tuff quickly replied, โ€œYes, yes, itโ€™s me.โ€

โ€œWhat do you want?โ€

โ€œI just wanted to let you know โ€“ Landon went and volunteered himself as a lab rat to get you treated. Heโ€™s in the operating room right now.โ€

Kayla let out a cold, impatient laugh. โ€œI literally just called him a moment agoโ€ฆโ€

โ€œThat was right when they started the anesthesia, so he could still pick up. But now heโ€™s completely out,โ€ Tuff explained.

โ€œI donโ€™t care! Let Aiden go right now, or elseโ€ฆโ€

โ€œAlright, alright! Iโ€™ll let him go! Right away!โ€ Before Kayla could even finish her threat, Tuff jumped in and agreed right away.

Kayla seemed pretty satisfied, her tone easing up a bit. โ€œAnd another thing. From now on, the Flying Tiger Sect better stop causing trouble for the Kington Gang.โ€

โ€œSorry, but thatโ€™s not up to me,โ€ Tuff sighed. โ€œLandonโ€™s the boss. I have to wait for him to wake up before I can do anything about it.โ€

โ€œTuff!โ€ Kayla snapped, her anger flaring up. โ€œYou need to get this straight โ€“ you guys arenโ€™t in any position to bargain with me right now!โ€

โ€œI get it, but what do you expect me to do? I canโ€™t just drag him off the operating table โ€“ heโ€™d literally die!โ€ Tuff put on his best pitiful face.

He really went all out with the whole โ€œwoe is meโ€ act, hamming it up for full effect. Landon watched, the corner of his eye twitching in disbelief.

โ€˜I never knew Tuff was such a drama king. The Flying Tiger Sect seriously owes him an Oscar,โ€™ he thought.

โ€œDarlingโ€ฆ Uh, Kayla!โ€ Tuff slipped up with the pet name again. โ€œEven if the sky is falling, we gotta wait for him to make it back from the brink, right? Heโ€™s doing all this for you!โ€

Kayla fell silent for a moment before finally asking, โ€œWhen will his surgery be over?โ€

โ€œNo idea,โ€ Tuff said, seeing she was buying it and amping up the drama. โ€œThis surgery is crazy dangerous. I tried to talk him out of it, but he just wouldnโ€™t listen โ€“ he had to do it for youโ€ฆโ€

โ€œEnough!โ€ Kayla snapped, unable to listen any longer. โ€œThree days. Iโ€™ll give you guys three days!โ€

โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll pray morning and night, hoping he wakes up soon,โ€ Tuff replied.

โ€œHmph!โ€ Kayla hung up the phone in a huff.

Tuff was pretty pleased with his performance and was about to pat himself on the back when he suddenly noticed Landon glaring at him with a dark expression.

His heart skipped a beat.

โ€œWhat, do you think Iโ€™m already dead?โ€

โ€œNo, no, no, I just said it without thinkingโ€ฆ Ow!โ€ Tuff yelped as Landon punched him in the face.

The car shook violently. The driver from the Prescott family covered his face, unable to watch.

In the end, Tuff got out of the car with two black eyesโ€ฆ

Meanwhile, Landon hopped on a private jet and flew straight to Norava.

Meanwhile, Kayla slammed her phone down, her brows shooting up in fury, a chilling murderous vibe practically pouring off her.

Gloria was scared out of her wits, her heart thumping like crazy.

Amelia secretly thought to herself, โ€˜Why is Kayla so hot-tempered all of a sudden? She used to be so patient!โ€™

โ€œWhat are you looking at?โ€ Kayla snapped, shooting them a fierce glare.

Gloria quickly averted her gaze, trembling in fear.

Amelia asked, โ€œSis, what happened to Landon?โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s in surgery,โ€ Kayla replied.

โ€œIs he hurt?โ€ Amelia asked.

Both Amelia and Gloria looked stunned.

โ€˜Didnโ€™t Landon go back to the Flying Tiger Sect? How could he end up needing surgery?โ€™

โ€˜Even if the Kington Gang managed to reach all the way into Lunova, thereโ€™s no way the Flying Tiger Sect wouldnโ€™t be able to protect him,โ€™ they both thought in disbelief.

โ€˜Besides, there was still the Zuckerberg family.โ€™

โ€˜Before Landon headed to Lunova, Amelia had already contacted Daniel, asking the Zuckerberg family to look after him.โ€™

โ€˜So how could he possibly end up getting hurt?โ€™ they wondered, full of confusion and worry.

โ€œHe went to have the brain chip removed,โ€ Kayla replied coldly, her gaze flicking over Ameliaโ€™s belly, her mood clearly unsettled.

If it werenโ€™t for the fact that Aiden cared so much about Ameliaโ€™s pregnancy, Kayla wouldnโ€™t have bothered putting up with this pregnant woman at all.

She was supposed to be the hostage, but here Kayla, the kidnapper, had to carefully look after her. It was just too much!

โ€œOh my god, could he be in danger?โ€ Both Amelia and Gloria turned white as sheets, staring at Kayla in panic and fear.

The way they looked at her, it was like Kayla had suddenly become their only lifeline โ€“ their last hope.

Kayla felt even more irritated.

โ€˜Do they even know what it means to be a hostage?โ€™ she thought.

โ€œKayla, just tell me โ€“ howโ€™s your brother?โ€ Gloria was so anxious she was about to cry.

Kayla rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath, โ€œUseless. All you ever do is cry.โ€

That hit Gloria right in the feels. She rubbed the corner of her clothes, looking dejected. โ€œIโ€™m sorry. I really am useless. I spent the first half of my life relying on my husband, and now Iโ€™m relying on my son and daughter-in-lawโ€ฆโ€

โ€œAlright, alright!โ€ Kayla snapped, cutting her off impatiently. โ€œLandonโ€™s in surgery at the Flying Tiger Sect. Theyโ€™re trying to remove the chip from his head.โ€

Ameliaโ€™s heart clenched.

He wasnโ€™t suffering from amnesia, and he wasnโ€™t having any attacks or symptoms. There was no reason for him to rush into surgery.

There was only one explanation: he was taking the risk first for Kaylaโ€™s treatment.

โ€˜No! This surgery is way too dangerous. If anything goes wrong, he might never wake up,โ€™ Amelia thought, panic flooding her mind.

โ€˜How could he take such a huge risk before I even deliver?โ€™ Amelia thought, panic rising in her chest.

Amelia quickly tried to recall the subtle changes in Kaylaโ€™s expression during that phone call.

โ€œKayla, did Tuff tell you this?โ€ she asked.

โ€œYeah,โ€ Kayla replied.

โ€œBut wasnโ€™t Landon the one who answered your first call?โ€ Amelia asked, not letting it go.

โ€œYeah, he answered. But right after, they knocked him out with anesthesia,โ€ Kayla replied.

Kayla felt a heavy weight settle in her chest.

Three days. She only had three days. โ€˜Will Landon really wake up on time?โ€™ she worried.

โ€˜What if he dies on the operating table?โ€™ she couldnโ€™t help but think, anxiety gnawing at her.

If that happens, itโ€™s going to be a disasterโ€ฆ

โ€œKayla, you and Tuffโ€ฆโ€ Amelia probed, her tone tentative.

Just now, Kayla seemed to really dislike Tuff, but they used to be on good terms โ€“ they even played a couple before.

Every time Tuff came up, she was always pretty chill about him.

Whenever Landon complained about Tuff, Kayla would even stick up for himโ€ฆ

The more Amelia thought about it, the more off it felt. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of the lace mask lying on the coffee table.

A wild thought suddenly flashed through Ameliaโ€™s mind, โ€˜Is this really Kayla standing in front of me, or is something off here?โ€™

Just then, someone came in and announced, โ€œMiss, Mr. Kyle is here.โ€

โ€œWow, Tuff moves fast,โ€ Kayla finally felt a bit relieved.

โ€œMiss, he is waiting outside. Should I let him in?โ€

Amelia found herself actually wanting to see Aiden.

Even though Aiden always got on her nerves with his obsessive ways, Amelia couldnโ€™t help but think maybe his arrival would be a game changer.

After all, he couldnโ€™t stand the thought of her getting hurt โ€“ not even a little bit.

โ€œNo, Iโ€™ll go see him,โ€ Kayla said, shooting Amelia a look of disdain, having already seen right through her intentions.

And just like that, she shattered Ameliaโ€™s hopes.
