Chapter 241
โAhemโฆโ Tuff cleared his throat and quickly turned his gaze to the car window. โWho said I like your sister? We were just pretending to date to trick Aiden.โ
Landon watched as Tuffโs ears slowly turned red and couldnโt help but laugh.
โWifey was right, Tuff really does have a thing for Kayla,โ he thought. But Kayla had ended up as the villain againโฆ
As that thought crossed his mind, Landon couldnโt bring himself to smile anymore. He gloomily rubbed his temples.
Tuff, unwilling to give up, finally managed to get through to Kaylaโs phone. The moment she answered, he blurted out his usual, โDarlingโฆโ
โAhem!โ Landon choked on his own saliva.
โThatโs way too cheesy!โ he thought.
Tuffโs handsome face turned bright red. The fake relationship was already over, so why was he still calling her โdarlingโ out of habit?
โLandon, whatโs wrong with you?โ After a brief silence, Kaylaโs cold voice came through the phone.
Tuff didnโt have time to explain to Landon. He quickly said, โKayla, itโs me, Tuff.โ
There was another silence on the other end. Tuff frowned, feeling uneasy.
โNow that Kaylaโs decided to play the villain, will she even bother picking up my calls anymore?โ Tuff worried to himself.
โTuff?โ She sounded surprised.
Tuff quickly replied, โYes, yes, itโs me.โ
โWhat do you want?โ
โI just wanted to let you know โ Landon went and volunteered himself as a lab rat to get you treated. Heโs in the operating room right now.โ
Kayla let out a cold, impatient laugh. โI literally just called him a moment agoโฆโ
โThat was right when they started the anesthesia, so he could still pick up. But now heโs completely out,โ Tuff explained.
โI donโt care! Let Aiden go right now, or elseโฆโ
โAlright, alright! Iโll let him go! Right away!โ Before Kayla could even finish her threat, Tuff jumped in and agreed right away.
Kayla seemed pretty satisfied, her tone easing up a bit. โAnd another thing. From now on, the Flying Tiger Sect better stop causing trouble for the Kington Gang.โ
โSorry, but thatโs not up to me,โ Tuff sighed. โLandonโs the boss. I have to wait for him to wake up before I can do anything about it.โ
โTuff!โ Kayla snapped, her anger flaring up. โYou need to get this straight โ you guys arenโt in any position to bargain with me right now!โ
โI get it, but what do you expect me to do? I canโt just drag him off the operating table โ heโd literally die!โ Tuff put on his best pitiful face.
He really went all out with the whole โwoe is meโ act, hamming it up for full effect. Landon watched, the corner of his eye twitching in disbelief.
โI never knew Tuff was such a drama king. The Flying Tiger Sect seriously owes him an Oscar,โ he thought.
โDarlingโฆ Uh, Kayla!โ Tuff slipped up with the pet name again. โEven if the sky is falling, we gotta wait for him to make it back from the brink, right? Heโs doing all this for you!โ
Kayla fell silent for a moment before finally asking, โWhen will his surgery be over?โ
โNo idea,โ Tuff said, seeing she was buying it and amping up the drama. โThis surgery is crazy dangerous. I tried to talk him out of it, but he just wouldnโt listen โ he had to do it for youโฆโ
โEnough!โ Kayla snapped, unable to listen any longer. โThree days. Iโll give you guys three days!โ
โAlright, Iโll pray morning and night, hoping he wakes up soon,โ Tuff replied.
โHmph!โ Kayla hung up the phone in a huff.
Tuff was pretty pleased with his performance and was about to pat himself on the back when he suddenly noticed Landon glaring at him with a dark expression.
His heart skipped a beat.
โWhat, do you think Iโm already dead?โ
โNo, no, no, I just said it without thinkingโฆ Ow!โ Tuff yelped as Landon punched him in the face.
The car shook violently. The driver from the Prescott family covered his face, unable to watch.
In the end, Tuff got out of the car with two black eyesโฆ
Meanwhile, Landon hopped on a private jet and flew straight to Norava.
Meanwhile, Kayla slammed her phone down, her brows shooting up in fury, a chilling murderous vibe practically pouring off her.
Gloria was scared out of her wits, her heart thumping like crazy.
Amelia secretly thought to herself, โWhy is Kayla so hot-tempered all of a sudden? She used to be so patient!โ
โWhat are you looking at?โ Kayla snapped, shooting them a fierce glare.
Gloria quickly averted her gaze, trembling in fear.
Amelia asked, โSis, what happened to Landon?โ
โHeโs in surgery,โ Kayla replied.
โIs he hurt?โ Amelia asked.
Both Amelia and Gloria looked stunned.
โDidnโt Landon go back to the Flying Tiger Sect? How could he end up needing surgery?โ
โEven if the Kington Gang managed to reach all the way into Lunova, thereโs no way the Flying Tiger Sect wouldnโt be able to protect him,โ they both thought in disbelief.
โBesides, there was still the Zuckerberg family.โ
โBefore Landon headed to Lunova, Amelia had already contacted Daniel, asking the Zuckerberg family to look after him.โ
โSo how could he possibly end up getting hurt?โ they wondered, full of confusion and worry.
โHe went to have the brain chip removed,โ Kayla replied coldly, her gaze flicking over Ameliaโs belly, her mood clearly unsettled.
If it werenโt for the fact that Aiden cared so much about Ameliaโs pregnancy, Kayla wouldnโt have bothered putting up with this pregnant woman at all.
She was supposed to be the hostage, but here Kayla, the kidnapper, had to carefully look after her. It was just too much!
โOh my god, could he be in danger?โ Both Amelia and Gloria turned white as sheets, staring at Kayla in panic and fear.
The way they looked at her, it was like Kayla had suddenly become their only lifeline โ their last hope.
Kayla felt even more irritated.
โDo they even know what it means to be a hostage?โ she thought.
โKayla, just tell me โ howโs your brother?โ Gloria was so anxious she was about to cry.
Kayla rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath, โUseless. All you ever do is cry.โ
That hit Gloria right in the feels. She rubbed the corner of her clothes, looking dejected. โIโm sorry. I really am useless. I spent the first half of my life relying on my husband, and now Iโm relying on my son and daughter-in-lawโฆโ
โAlright, alright!โ Kayla snapped, cutting her off impatiently. โLandonโs in surgery at the Flying Tiger Sect. Theyโre trying to remove the chip from his head.โ
Ameliaโs heart clenched.
He wasnโt suffering from amnesia, and he wasnโt having any attacks or symptoms. There was no reason for him to rush into surgery.
There was only one explanation: he was taking the risk first for Kaylaโs treatment.
โNo! This surgery is way too dangerous. If anything goes wrong, he might never wake up,โ Amelia thought, panic flooding her mind.
โHow could he take such a huge risk before I even deliver?โ Amelia thought, panic rising in her chest.
Amelia quickly tried to recall the subtle changes in Kaylaโs expression during that phone call.
โKayla, did Tuff tell you this?โ she asked.
โYeah,โ Kayla replied.
โBut wasnโt Landon the one who answered your first call?โ Amelia asked, not letting it go.
โYeah, he answered. But right after, they knocked him out with anesthesia,โ Kayla replied.
Kayla felt a heavy weight settle in her chest.
Three days. She only had three days. โWill Landon really wake up on time?โ she worried.
โWhat if he dies on the operating table?โ she couldnโt help but think, anxiety gnawing at her.
If that happens, itโs going to be a disasterโฆ
โKayla, you and Tuffโฆโ Amelia probed, her tone tentative.
Just now, Kayla seemed to really dislike Tuff, but they used to be on good terms โ they even played a couple before.
Every time Tuff came up, she was always pretty chill about him.
Whenever Landon complained about Tuff, Kayla would even stick up for himโฆ
The more Amelia thought about it, the more off it felt. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of the lace mask lying on the coffee table.
A wild thought suddenly flashed through Ameliaโs mind, โIs this really Kayla standing in front of me, or is something off here?โ
Just then, someone came in and announced, โMiss, Mr. Kyle is here.โ
โWow, Tuff moves fast,โ Kayla finally felt a bit relieved.
โMiss, he is waiting outside. Should I let him in?โ
Amelia found herself actually wanting to see Aiden.
Even though Aiden always got on her nerves with his obsessive ways, Amelia couldnโt help but think maybe his arrival would be a game changer.
After all, he couldnโt stand the thought of her getting hurt โ not even a little bit.
โNo, Iโll go see him,โ Kayla said, shooting Amelia a look of disdain, having already seen right through her intentions.
And just like that, she shattered Ameliaโs hopes.
