Chapter 293

There was no way a prison could hold Monroe. Just the fact that he could control time was enough for him to break out.

But as for making sure he died behind barsโ€ฆ Landon and Tuff were starting to discuss how feasible that plan really was.

โ€œWith Night Owlโ€™s current condition, itโ€™s going to be tough to hypnotize Monroe again. But if we wait too long, something unexpected might happen,โ€ Landon mused.

They needed to figure out a way that didnโ€™t involve Night Owl at all.

โ€œLetโ€™s just poison him!โ€ Tuff suggested.

Aiden, leaning against the doorframe, sneered, โ€œThat wonโ€™t do a thing.โ€

โ€œWhy not?โ€ Tuff asked.

โ€œThe Montgomery family has a special research organization. Theyโ€™ve not only developed memory-erasing chips but also made Monroe immune to all poisons,โ€ Aiden explained.

Tuff blurted out, โ€œThatโ€™s insane! How could anyone be immune to all poisons? What is this, some kind of TV drama or somethingโ€ฆโ€

โ€œItโ€™s true,โ€ Aiden insisted. โ€œMy brother told me himself before he died.โ€

Tuff and Landon exchanged glances, both at a loss for words.

Shooting him was impossible, and poisoning was out of the question too. That meant there was only one thing left to try: ask Night Owl to step in again.

โ€œCan Night Owl really do it one more time?โ€ Tuff asked.

Before Landon could answer, Aiden snapped angrily, โ€œSheโ€™s already in such bad shape, and you still want to put her through this?โ€

Tuff and Landon both looked at Aiden, puzzled, and said in unison, โ€œWhatโ€™s it to you?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m involved in this too, so of course I get a say,โ€ Aiden shot back. โ€œArenโ€™t you guys from the Flying Tiger Sect supposed to be powerful? And now you have to count on a woman to bail you out?โ€

Tuff frowned and asked, โ€œAiden, have you fallen for Night Owl or something?โ€

Aiden froze.

โ€˜Me, interested in Night Owl? No way, thatโ€™s impossible,โ€™ he thought.

Heโ€™d only ever loved one woman in his whole life, and that was Amelia.

โ€œWhy do you care about her so much?โ€ Tuff asked.

Aiden was acting really weird today.

โ€œIโ€ฆโ€ Aiden hesitated before finally saying, โ€œI just canโ€™t stand the way youโ€™re treating her.โ€

โ€œBut Night Owl is totally fine with it!โ€ Tuff said, winking at Aiden, deliberately provoking him.

Sure enough, Aidenโ€™s expression changed, and his voice turned sharp. โ€œJust because sheโ€™s willing doesnโ€™t make it right! You know sheโ€™s on the verge of collapsing, and youโ€™re still pushing her to do this?โ€

โ€œLandon, didnโ€™t you promise her husband youโ€™d take care of her and make sure she stays safe and alive?โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s the difference between what youโ€™re doing now and killing her yourself?โ€

Landon furrowed his brow in thought, while Tuff shot Aiden a weird look.

The heavy silence in the room finally made Aiden realize just how out of line heโ€™d been.

He awkwardly rubbed his nose and said, โ€œI just canโ€™t stand the way youโ€™re using her!โ€

โ€œWhy the hell do you care?โ€ Night Owlโ€™s voice drifted over from behind, soft and warm.

Aiden instantly felt awkward.

He turned around to see Night Owl, still looking pale, and forced an awkward smile. โ€œI was just worried about your healthโ€ฆโ€

โ€œWho do you think you are to me? What gives you the right to make decisions for me?โ€ Night Owlโ€™s voice was cold, with a lazy edge that came from just waking up.

Aiden was at a loss for words.

A fresh wave of sadness washed over him.

He rarely showed concern for anyone, and yet she didnโ€™t appreciate it at all. She couldnโ€™t even recognize genuine kindness.

โ€œNight Owlโ€ฆโ€ he started.

โ€œMy business is none of your concern. Get lost!โ€ she snapped.

Night Owl walked past Aiden with a cold expression and sat lazily across from Tuff.

โ€œSo, whatโ€™s the next plan?โ€ she asked.

Tuff didnโ€™t dare say anything and looked over at Landon.

Landon glared at him, thinking, โ€˜Why are you dumping this on me now?โ€™

The two of them just stared at each other, neither willing to speak up. Aiden felt a little better seeing that.

At least they still had a bit of a conscience.

He cleared his throat and said, โ€œThereโ€™s no next plan. You guys can leave now.โ€

Night Owl gave Aiden a look like he was talking nonsense, then looked away.

She just treated his words like hot air.

Monroe was still alive, and Monica hadnโ€™t given up. Thereโ€™s no way this was over.

If they didnโ€™t pull the weeds out by the roots, they would just keep coming back.

โ€œThere really isnโ€™t any plan for now. Just take a rest,โ€ Landon said.

Night Owlโ€™s expression turned serious. โ€œAre you out of your mind?โ€

โ€œWe,โ€ Landon replied.

โ€œNow is the best time to finish them off!โ€ she insisted.

โ€œYeah,โ€ Landon said.

โ€œThen what exactly am I supposed to do?โ€ Night Owl shot back.

โ€œRest,โ€ Landon replied.

Night Owl stood up in anger, her long, slender frame casting an even more delicate shadow under the light.

Aiden discreetly held up his hand to gauge how thin she looked, thinking, โ€˜Sheโ€™s so skinny! Is she a paper doll or what?โ€™

โ€œNight Owl, the Flying Tiger Sect will make sure Monroe and Monica both die in there,โ€ Tuff said.

โ€œIf you Flying Tiger Sect guys were really that capable, you wouldnโ€™t have come begging for my help,โ€ Night Owl sneered, her voice dripping with sarcasm. โ€œBack when my husband, Dawson Wiggin, was still alive, you all swore nothing would happen to him. And look how that turned out.โ€

Aiden made a mental note of that name: Dawson Wiggin.

โ€˜Her husbandโ€™s last name is Wiggin?โ€™ he wondered.

โ€˜Am I really that clueless? Iโ€™ve never even heard of that surname before!โ€™

โ€œNight Owl, that was an accidentโ€ฆโ€ Landonโ€™s voice was low and hoarse, filled with a pain he couldnโ€™t quite put into words.

โ€œSo, is there going to be another โ€˜accidentโ€™ this time?โ€ Night Owl sneered. โ€œLandon, since you brought me here, Iโ€™ll make sure this gets finished.โ€

โ€œNight Owlโ€ฆโ€

โ€œNo one can stop me,โ€ she cut him off.

With that, Night Owl turned and walked away.

Landon and Tuff scrambled to their feet and hurried after her. โ€œYou canโ€™t go!โ€

โ€œWe really donโ€™t need you to step inโ€ฆโ€

They both looked helpless.

Night Owl acted like she didnโ€™t hear a thing, never even glancing back.

Aiden instinctively stepped aside to let her pass, his eyes lighting up with admiration. โ€˜Sheโ€™s got real attitude!โ€™

That unyielding pride of hers was even more stubborn than Amelia!

โ€œGo after her,โ€ Kayla said, giving Aiden a gentle kick.

Aiden responded at once, โ€œOn it!โ€

Then he rushed off to catch up with Night Owl.

Meanwhile, Kayla was the only one who seemed completely unfazed. She lounged comfortably in the living room, lighting up another cigarette while no one was around.

She took the chance to call Amelia. โ€œAmelia, howโ€™s Mom doing?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s doing great,โ€ Amelia replied with a smile on the video call.

But when she saw Kayla smoking, her expression immediately darkened. โ€œKayla, you canโ€™t smoke.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine. Neither of them is here,โ€ Kayla said casually.

โ€œSmoking is bad for your healthโ€ฆโ€ Amelia said, her voice full of concern.

โ€œNot knowing when to get a little jealous isnโ€™t good for a marriage either,โ€ Kayla said.

Ameliaโ€™s eyes flickered, thinking of the photo Aiden sent.

โ€˜Landon was actually hugging another woman!โ€™ she thought.

She had to admit, the moment she saw that photo, her heart felt like it had been stabbed, and she could barely breathe.

But she kept it to herself.

Now wasnโ€™t the time to get jealousโ€“sheโ€™d wait until Landon took care of the Montgomery family before saying anything.

โ€œAmelia, that woman is pretty, isnโ€™t she?โ€ Kayla asked deliberately.

Ameliaโ€™s smile finally crumbled, and she looked downcast. โ€œYeah.โ€

Even Kayla was complimenting the other woman. As the wife, Amelia didnโ€™t know how she was supposed to feel about that.

Amelia took a deep breath and said, โ€œKayla, if you and everyone else think sheโ€™s so great, then I guess I could justโ€ฆโ€

โ€œYou could what?โ€ Kayla pressed, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

โ€œI could let her have my place,โ€ Amelia said, forcing a bitter smile. โ€œButโ€“the kids are coming with me. I want every cent thatโ€™s rightfully mine, not a penny less! And Landon can never bother me or the kids for the rest of our livesโ€ฆโ€

โ€œSavage!โ€ Kayla laughed.

Amelia felt both wronged and angry, but she wasnโ€™t about to make a scene or lose her dignity.

Men were everywhere. She wasnโ€™t about to risk her life over one.

โ€œThat womanโ€™s called Night Owl, and she has incredibly powerful hypnosis skills. And get thisโ€“Landon actually has to regard her sister-in-law,โ€ Kayla said, laughing.

Amelia was stunned. โ€˜Wait, his sister-in-law?โ€™

โ€œHer husband died, and Night Owl has never fully recovered from it. Thatโ€™s why Landon was hugging her,โ€ Kayla explained.

โ€œOh! So thatโ€™s what was going onโ€ฆโ€ Amelia nodded, her cheeks turning red with embarrassment.

She suddenly noticed the cigarette between Kaylaโ€™s fingers had burned all the way down, and it hit her. โ€œKalya, you tricked me just so you could finish your smoke!โ€
