Chapter 295

Listen to this chapter:

This was so scary.

โ€˜Could Monicaโ€™s ability really be something out of an anime, like teleportation or warping space?โ€™ she wondered. โ€˜Otherwise, how else could he just suddenly show up in Norava?โ€™ Ameliaโ€™s mind raced. Her heart was pounding in her chest, and she had no idea how to deal with this. After a moment, Amelia barely managed to force out, โ€œWhat do you want?โ€

โ€œI want to kill you,โ€ Monroe said coldly, โ€œSo that Landon will be utterly loyal to my daughter.โ€

Amelia closed her eyes, her anger crashing inside her like a storm. She could only resent how useless her own ability wasโ€“nothing more than being able to hear Landonโ€™s voice, and nothing else. If only she had a stronger power, she could wipe Monroe out on the spot.

โ€œGreat Uncleโ€ฆ.โ€ Suddenly, a weak, childish voice was heard. Hearing that, Ameliaโ€™s heart jolted hard with regret. She had just promised Kayla sheโ€™d look after Landen, and now she had let him get dragged into this mess too.

โ€œIโ€™m scaredโ€ฆโ€ Landen said softly, coming closer and gently touching Monroeโ€™s elbow with his tiny hand.

Monroe turned to look at Landen. He had to admit; this kid looked exactly like Jonny when he was little. Especially that pitiful look in his eyesโ€“it instantly softened something deep inside him. For a split second, Monroe almost saw Jonny again, tumbling off that cliff to save Monica.

โ€œIโ€ฆโ€ Landen said softly, his little voice trembling as if he wanted to say more but didnโ€™t dare.

Monroe reached out and patted his head, her tone gentle. โ€œGood boy, I will take you to a really fun place.โ€

โ€œIs it really just a fun place?โ€ Landenโ€™s eyes brimmed with tears. โ€œI heard everything you just said.โ€

Amelia nearly jumped in fright. This was the perfect time for Landen to play dumb. If he acted like he didnโ€™t know Monroeโ€™s true intentions, maybe Monroe would let him go. Kayla had already suffered so much in her life. If she lost Landen, Amelia knew sheโ€™d never be able to live with herself, even if she somehow managed to survive.

โ€œGreat Uncle, Kimsey is so little and so pitiful. Please donโ€™t hurt him, okay?โ€ Landenโ€™s voice wavered as he started to choke up. That trembling, tearful childโ€™s plea could break anyoneโ€™s heart.

Amelia felt her heart clench. She opened her mouth, wanting to say anything that might make Monroe let them go, but no words would come.

โ€œLanden, I would never hurt a kid like you. Donโ€™t worry,โ€ Monroe said with a gentle smile, trying to reassure him.

Judging by everything so far, Monroe was very patient with Landen. Amelia felt a little more at ease.

โ€œThank you, I knew you were a good person,โ€ Landen said happily, wrapping his arms around Monroeโ€™s neck and planting two big kisses on his cheek. Kimsey, still in Monicaโ€™s arms, giggled too. The tense atmosphere in the spacious car seemed to ease a little with the sound of the two kidsโ€˜ laughter. Amelia gently bit her lower lip, feeling like she was about to cry. Monroe wouldnโ€™t hurt the kids, and he hadnโ€™t hurt her either. He was fishingโ€“setting bait and waiting for his catch. He was trying to hook Landonโ€“the biggest fish of all.

After what felt like forever, the car finally stopped at the foot of a desolate mountain. Mountains surrounded them on three sides, with water on the fourth. The place was completely deserted, yet there was a threeโ€“story building standing there. The outer walls were just bare red brick, so plain that it didnโ€™t even look like anyone had bothered to paint it. Even if one flew over in a plane, theyโ€™d probably think it was just some abandoned house. Amelia guessed this was probably one of the Mystic Sectโ€™s hideouts.

โ€œWeโ€™re here. Time to get out,โ€ Monroe said. He got out of the car, carrying Kimsey in one arm and holding Landenโ€™s hand with the other. Amelia was still too weak from the drugs, so two bodyguards had to support her as she got out.

Once they stepped inside, it felt like theyโ€™d gone from a barren wasteland straight into paradise. It was unbelievably lavish. Bright marble floors, polished redwood furnitureโ€ฆ The whole place was bathed in light. Every single detail here was even more extravagant than anything in the Kingsley familyโ€™s mansion. This was definitely no ordinary hideout. Amelia managed to look around as best she could before being tossed into a windowless room.

โ€œAmelia, Ameliaโ€ฆโ€ Landenโ€™s little voice trembled as he called out for her.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Mrs. Kingsley. Until the big fish takes the bait, you and the children wonโ€™t be in any danger,โ€ Monroe said, leaving those words hanging in the air as he shut the door behind him.

Chapter 295

Amelia lay on the icy floor and closed her eyes. โ€˜When the hell will this damn drug wear off?โ€™ she cursed inwardly. โ€œI have to get my strength back and get out of here!"

The private jet soared through the blue sky, but Landon and his team all wore grim expressions. The one in prison was a fake Monroe. He didnโ€™t have any powers, and ever since his arrest, heโ€™d been disturbingly obedient. He didnโ€™t fight, didnโ€™t resistโ€“he was just like a mindless puppet.

โ€œLandon, donโ€™t worry. Amy will be okay,โ€ Kayla said, forcing a calm tone even though she was just as anxious inside. They had pushed Monroe to the edge, and he got nowhere left to run. Heโ€™d pulled off a masterful deception to slip away, and now he was definitely holding back some major move. His best chance to turn the tables was to head to Norava and take their families hostage. So, the moment they sensed something was wrong, theyโ€™d been calling Amelia over and over. But her phone just wouldnโ€™t go through. The servants at home said theyโ€™d gone out shopping. At least the bodyguardsโ€˜ phones were ringing, but no one picked up. All of this was a seriously bad omenโ€ฆ

Landon stared at his phone, his eyes fixed on Ameliaโ€™s last message. It was a message sheโ€™d sent not long agoโ€“a photo of him hugging Night Owl, plus some snarky remarks. She was really jealous. Normally, Landon wouldโ€™ve been secretly pleased, then patiently explained things to her and coaxed her until she was happy again. But now, all he felt was fear.

โ€˜Is she in trouble? Or is she just giving me the silent treatment because sheโ€™s jealous?โ€™ Landon wondered anxiously.

Kayla glanced at her brother and his phone but kept quiet. She knew this wasnโ€™t about jealousyโ€“Amelia was really in trouble. But with them stuck on a plane, there was nothing they could do. If she told him the truth now, it would only make things worse for him. Better to wait until they were back in Norava to figure things out. She just hoped Amelia stayed safe.

โ€œLandon, Iโ€™ll help you,โ€ Night Owl finally spoke, her voice breaking the tense silence. She lifted her gaze, and the sunlight streaming through the cabin windows made her cold, ethereal features seem almost translucent. She looked every bit the wild, untamed hero, yet there was a fragile beauty about her that made people want to protect her.

Alden looked at her unusually pale face and frowned. โ€œMaybe you should focus on taking care of yourself first. Donโ€™t go keeling over before we even get there.โ€

โ€œDo you even know how to talk?โ€ Night Owl shot him a cold, icy glare.

Aiden wisely decided to keep his mouth shut.

โ€œAiden, you never told us there could be two people like Monroe,โ€ Kayla said, frowning at him.

โ€œI had no idea either,โ€ Aiden replied, scratching his head in frustration. โ€œItโ€™s just so weirdโ€“how can there be two people who look exactly the same? Even if we could be fooled, thereโ€™s no way Monica would be, right?โ€

When Monroe came to pick her up, Monica didnโ€™t show the slightest hint that anything was off. Knowing how arrogant Monica is, she would never have acted like that unless it was really her father.

โ€œDoes Monroe have any relatives?โ€ Tuff wondered aloud, suspecting that maybe a lookalike relative was impersonating him, while Monica was deliberately acting normal to throw them off.

โ€œHeโ€™s an orphanโ€“no relatives at all,โ€ Aiden said. โ€œAfter my aunt met him, my dad even had the Kington Gang run a full background check on him. Their investigations are never wrong.โ€

Night Owl asked, โ€œSo, is it possible heโ€™s a clone?โ€

Everyone gasped in shock.

That was way too farโ€“fetched.

โ€œI donโ€™t think so,โ€ Landon said, his face tight. โ€œIf he really was a clone, then that guy should have powers too.โ€

โ€œThenโ€ฆ twins?โ€ Night Owl suggested.

Everyone looked at each other, stunned.

All these years, Monroe had claimed to be an orphan. Heโ€™d hidden his twin brother so well that even the Kington Gang had no idea. Everyone wondered what on earth he was planning.
