Chapter 305
A bold Raul clasped his arms around Monica's waist, and though she resisted at first, her protests faded. They saw Bazame entangled in heated passion. Their tresses trailed all the way to the bedroom, where passion quickly ignited. By the time Monroe returned, the deed was already done.
"Twenty years of tender care only for some old hog to come rooting up my precious!" Monroe fumed inwardly.
"How dare you, Paul! How could youโฆ" he shouted furiously.
"It was Miss Monica who forced meโฆ" Paul whimpered, kneeling on the ground, trembling all over. He looked for all the world like he was the real victim here. As he had been with the Montgomery family for a long time, he knew Monroe very well.
Given Monroeโs character, the fact that he hadnโt killed him on the spot meant he still had his concerns. That meant there was still hope for him and Monica. Though he had no idea why Monica had fallen for him, he knew this was his shot at hitting it big, and he had to grab it with both hands. No matter how long things lasted between them, as long as Monica ended up having his child, heโd have made it big in this life. Monroe had grown up in an orphanage and loved kids to an unusual degreeโthereโs no way heโd ever lay a finger on his own grandkids. That meant Paulโd get a share of the Montgomery family fortune one day. Paul had already weighed all the pros and cons. He acted as meek as a mouse in front of Monroe, but turned as cocky as a rooster when he was with Monica. Monica couldnโt live without him now!
"Mr. Monroe, Iโm sorryโฆ" Paul said, his voice trembling. "Mr. Monroe, why donโt you just let me go?"
Firing him? That was the least of what Monroe wanted to do. He wanted nothing more than to toss him straight into the Pacific! But Marvel had made it clear: there was no solution to the love spell. So, until they figured something out, Paul had to stay alive. Thus, for the sake of his beloved daughter, Monroe had no choice but to swallow his anger.
"Iโm telling you, donโt you ever lay a finger on Monica again," he warned.
"It was Miss Monica who came after meโI tried to fight her off, but it was uselessโฆ" Paul whimpered.
Monroe had always prided himself on being clever, but right now, his head was pounding with rage like never before. Before he could even settle the score, Monica burst in. "Daddy, why are you making my husband kneel on the floor?"
Monroe was so furious that he uttered no word.
"Honey, get up. Letโs go back to our room," Monica said, her face glowing with desire. The love spell had her completely swept up, like she was floating inside a dazzling rainbow bubble she couldnโt escape from.
"Mr. Monroeโฆ" Paul called out, his voice shaking with fear.
'Speak. Itโs not on me. Miss Monicaโs just way too into me,' he thought.
"Get out!" Monroe roared. His chest was heaving with rage, and he could only tell himself, โWho doesnโt have desires? Just treat it as Monica picking herself a boy toyโฆโ he thought bitterly.
While all this happened, Landon stood outside the door, watching in silence. Aside from the thrill of revenge, he also found it downright scary. Love poisons, love spellsโฆ Everything from the Mystic Sect was just plain unnatural. It all felt like something straight out of a dramaโthose wild, impossible things only seen on TV.
'Besides Monroe, how many other supernatural types are there in the Mystic Sect? Are they the ones who made all this stuff?' Landon wondered.
"Youโre here," Monroe said when he saw Landon. To his surprise, he felt himself calm down a little seeing him. Landon leaned against the wall and nodded. That innate air of dominance meant that even with amnesia, he was never someone one could just order around.
"Monica is your wife," Monroe said.
"I saw her being intimate with another man," Landon just said.
"Sheโs sick. If you just comfort her a bit, she might recover soon," Monroe said, pinning all his hopes on Landon. 'After all, Monica had been madly in love with Landon for years. The butler was only acting under the influence of the love spellโmaybe if Landon tried to comfort her, Monica would come to her senses,' he thought.
"Iโm not going to comfort her," Landon replied flatly. He refused without a second thought.
At this, Monroeโs face darkened instantly. "Are you defying my orders?"
"So if a wife cheats, itโs the husbandโs fault?" Landon replied coldly. "Iโm already doing her a favor by not divorcing her, and now you want me to comfort her? Keep dreaming!"
With that, Landon swaggered off, not even bothering to look back. Seeing that, Monroe clutched his chest, furious to the point of pain.
'Is there really no one left in this family listening to me?' he thought bitterly. He felt so depressed.
The Montgomery family estate was huge and luxurious. There were security cameras everywhere except in the private quarters. Since Landon had lost his memory, he couldnโt contact his family. He wandered around out of boredom, and when he got tired, heโd just go take a nap. He was living in recovery mode. As for however Monica wanted to let loose, that was none of his business.
The hat einer here undercola, still further saving the site, ik had after turist reason to find the head quarters of the shylie sext and unearth their secrets. Within just a few days, Landon had memorized the entire layout of the Montgomery estate. But aside from the heavy security, there was nothing out of the ordinary.
'Where the hell is the Mystic Sectโs headquarters?' he wondered.
"Mr. Kingsley, have some coffee," Paul said, looking smug and practically glowing after a few days of Monicaโs attention. In his eyes, now that Landon had lost Monicaโs favor, he was just a love rival to him, not someone he needed to serve anymore. Landon leaned back against the sofa, taking slow sips of his coffee, just waiting to see what Paul would say next.
Sure enough, Paul couldnโt hold it in for long before blurting out, "Mr. Kingsley, about you and Miss Monicaโฆ"
"She doesnโt love me anymore," Landon said flatly. He looked up, his calm gaze cutting right through Paul as if he could see straight into his soul.
No one wanted to spend their whole life under someone elseโs thumb, especially someone like Paul, whoโd been rubbing shoulders with the rich and powerful for yearsโhis ambition was getting out of hand. He wanted to marry into the Montgomery family!
"Now thatโs guts. Thatโs nerve. Not bad at all," Landon thought.
"Thatโs right. Miss Monica only has eyes for me now. So what are you going to do about it?" Paul pressed.
"You look just like one of those lowโranking consorts in the royal family who suddenly get noticed," Landon said. This left Paul speechless. Even though he lived in Dreicean, he definitely got the joke.
"Iโm just the Montgomery familyโs liveโin sonโinโlaw. I donโt have any real power, so I donโt really care," Landon added casually, his long legs crossed in a lazy, indifferent manner. Every move he made radiated an air of untouchable dignity and authority.
"If Miss Monica likes you now, let her. When she gets bored of you, sheโll change her mind and come back. Or maybe youโll just get swapped out for a new man toy," Landon sneered.
At this, Paul felt seriously uncomfortable inside.
'Damn, Landon, actually calling me a "man toy!"' he fumed. 'So what if Iโm a butler for a rich family? Itโs not like Iโm some servant from ancient times who sold himself into slavery,' he grumbled inwardly. Indeed, Paul was a talented, capable, topโtier butler, pulling in a million a year! How many small business owners busted their butts all year and still couldnโt even break a million? But that last bit from Landon really hit a nerve.
Time waited for no manโeven his โindomitable vigorโ couldnโt defy age. What if Monica someday doted on some young buck instead? What then?
"Paul, I can help you keep your place," Landon said, tossing out the bait at just the right moment.
"You want to help me?" Paul took the bait right away.
"I donโt like it here anymore," Landon said, glancing around. "This place feels like a cage. I want to get out and stretch my legs."
"No way," Paul shot back, shutting him down immediately. The Flying Tiger Sect was no joke. If Landon stepped outside the Montgomery estate, heโd be snatched up in no time.
"Maybe if I get out for a walk and clear my head, Iโll decide to divorce Monica and let you take her for yourself," Landon said.
Paul snickered to himself, โDivorce? You arenโt even married! You were so sharp before, but now that youโve lost your memory, youโre just a sucker - believing whatever anyone tells you.โ
"Paul, do you really want to stay a butler forever?" Landon leaned in a little closer. His presence was intimidating, even from across the room.
But Paul just loosened his tie, stood up, and walked out without saying a word. Yet, Landon could tell he was wavering.
