Chapter 31
โMr. Kingsley, are you awake?โ
Aaron was very surprised, and Landonโs chest heaved violently.
As Landon adjusted his focus, he slowly calmed down.
It became apparent that it was all an illusion; Amelia had not been bullied.
Finally, Landon could see the world clearly before him.
After a three-month slumber, winter had given way to spring, and the trees outside his window were now in bloom.
โMr. Kingsley, can you see things now?โ Aaron peered intently at Landon.
Landon offered a nod.
He observed his typically austere room, now adorned with feminine touches, radiating a profound sense of warmth.
โMr. Kingsley, say something. Itโs been a long time since Iโve heard your voice,โ Aaron said, his voice brimming with anticipation.
โMr. Kingsley woke up, so it must mean he can move, right?โ
However, his anticipation dwindled in the ensuing silence.
Aaron furrowed his brow. โMr. Kingsley, are you still unable to speak?โ
Landonโs chest heaved once more. โDamn it. I canโt control my vocal cords or mouth.โ
He attempted to lift his legsโฆ but they remained unresponsive. The initial shock of waking up turned to sinking disappointment. Landon could only open his eyesโฆ
โYou still canโt move?โ Aaron echoed the disappointment, but soon chuckled, trying to console him, โItโs alright. You managed to lift your left hand last night, and today, you woke up. Your recovery is already quite rapid.โ
Yet for Landon, it wasnโt enough. โFoolish Amelia went to Edwards Group alone. Can she make it unscathed? Forget it, the priority now is to save her first.โ
Landon slowly raised his left hand, pointing to the phone on the bedside table.
โMr. Kingsley, you want your phone?โ Aaron swiftly handed Landon his mobile device.
After the phone was unlocked with facial recognition, Landon paused once again.
He didnโt know Ameliaโs mobile number, nor could he talk to her over the phone directly.
โMr. Kingsley, what are you attempting to do?โ Aaron inquired.
Landon glared at him, opened WhatsApp, and typed: [Amelia]
โOh, youโre asking about Mrs. Kingsley. She went to the company today for a clock-in and left, but she didnโt request my company. It seemed she went to deal with a personal matter.โ
[A personal matter?]
โAaron didnโt go with her.โ Landonโs eyes darkened with rage.
He closed his eyes, and when he reopened them, they were filled with anger: [Call her back. Immediately. Right now.]
Chapter 31
โUnderstood.โ
Aaron hurriedly dialed Amelia.
Landon then commanded: [Put it on speaker]
Aaron complied without delay.
โMrs. Kingsley, where are you? Mr. Kingsley is asking for you. Please return now.โ
โIโm occupied at the moment,โ Amelia replied, sensing something was wrong and asking, โYou just said heโs asking for me? Is he awake?โ
Aaron glanced at Landon and tactfully responded, โMr. Kingsley has opened his eyes.โ
โJust opened his eyes?โ Amelia let out a sigh of relief.
โIt almost scared the shit out of me. Iโve just got 100 million dollars from the Kingsley Group. If Landon recovers now, heโll certainly reclaim his money.โ
โYes.โ
โThen take good care of him. Iโll come home later.โ Amelia quickly ended the call.
Aaron tried calling her again, but her phone was switched off.
Aaron looked at Landon with a helpless expression. โMr. Kingsley, it seems Mrs. Kingsleyโs mobile phone has run out of battery.โ
Landon took a deep breath and typed with his finger: [How much did she transfer from Kingsley Group?]
โ100 million dollars.โ
As expected, she kept her word. She took 100 million dollars to the Edwards Group. Wasnโt she jumping into the trap now? Obviously, itโs too late to stop her. I can only approach this from other aspects.โ
[Aaron, contact all the debt collectors of the Edwards Group immediately. Let them know that anyone who dares to harm Amelia is against the Kingsley family.]
Aaron was taken aback and quickly issued the order. Then he asked, โMr. Kingsley, did Mrs. Kingsley go to Edwards Group?โ
[Why are you still here? Go.]
โYes, sir.โ
Aaron broke out in a cold sweat and rushed to Edwards Group.
In fact, Amelia didnโt go to Edwards Group; instead, she made her way to the hospital.
Walter had just had fresh dressing for his wound changed and was leisurely soaking up the sun, comfortably awaiting the good news.
Debt collectors holding nearly 100 million dollars in claims were all gathering at the Edwards Group. Once Amelia went there, if she failed to settle the debts, she would not be permitted to leave.
Walter believed that given Ameliaโs timid and cowardly nature, she would undoubtedly pay up immediately.
With half-closed eyes, Walter felt increasingly delighted the more he pondered the situation. He was so lost in thought that he didnโt notice when Amelia arrived.
โDad, are you enjoying the sun?โ
โYes. What?โ
Chapter 31
Walter jolted awake and sat up. โAmy, what brings you here?โ
โShouldnโt she be at the company right now?โ
โDad, your company is in deep debt,โ Amelia said, taking an apple and slowly peeling it.
Walter asked nervously, โHave you been to the company?โ
โI saw in the car that it was swarming with debt collectors, and I didnโt dare to go in.โ
Walter was left speechless.
โDad, sell the house,โ Amelia suggested.
Walter nearly bit his tongue. โAre you out of your mind? If we sell the house, where will we live?โ
โYouโre supposed to pay off debts. Since the family is broke, you have to liquidate the real estate,โ Amelia said, โDidnโt you buy Sandra several downtown shops? Sell those too to settle the debts.โ
Walter was aghast. โThe purchase of those shops for Sandra hasnโt been made public. How could she know?โ
โThe seaside villa registered under Melissaโs name could be sold for 15 million dollars. If you combine that with the other assets, youโd have 60 million dollars.โ
Each time Amelia revealed a secret, Walter felt as if heโd been struck by lightning.
Because Amelia was aware of everything about his financial dealings.
Walterโs face darkened rapidly. โDid you go to the Real Estate Management Bureau to investigate me?โ
โI donโt have time for that,โ Amelia chuckled.
In her previous life, these secrets were kept hidden until her death. Now, she exposed them to embarrass Walter.
The so-called lack of funds to settle the debts was merely a fabrication. Walter clearly intended to use Ameliaโs money to patch up the Edwards familyโs finances without affecting Melissa and Sandraโs interests.
Walter had no idea what to say. โBut Amelia is already married into a rich family. Why should I sell my familyโs properties?โ
He composed himself and said sternly, โAmy, Melissa bought those properties herselfโฆโ
โWithout spending family money?โ Amelia exclaimed, โOh my, has Melissa returned to her old line of work?โ
Confused by her words, Walter asked, โWhat old line of work?โ
โFinding a sugar daddy. Dad, didnโt Melissa do the same thing to you so that she became your wife now?โ Ameliaโs eyes were filled with sarcasm. โDad, you have to be careful not to get cheated on.โ
Walter raised his hand in anger.
โWhat? You want to hit me?โ Amelia slammed the half-peeled apple and knife down on the table.
Walter came to his senses. โAmelia is now my cash cow, and I canโt afford to annoy her.โ
โNo, my head is itchy; I was scratching,โ Walter pretended to scratch his head and then cried out, โOuch.โ
Amelia remained unmoved, as if she hadnโt heard him.
Walter gritted his teeth and reminded her, โAlas, the sulfuric acid really hurts. Fortunately, it was splashed on my back. If it had been on your face, you would have been disfigured.โ
โYeah, Angelaโs aim was so precise.โ
When Walter heard the name suddenly, his face changed dramatically. โWhat?โ
โAngela, Dr. Greenโs wife,โ Amelia slowly curled her lips, her beautiful face filled with ridicule. โYou hired her to splash sulfuric acid on you and then forgot about her?โ
