Chapter 336

Kayla closed her eyes in despair. If only I could just disappearโ€ฆ At least my family wouldnโ€™t have to suffer because of this, she thought bitterly.

The familiar ringtone pierced through her despair, igniting a small spark of hope within her heart. โ€œLandenโ€ฆโ€ Kayla whispered. It was the unique ringtone that Landen had designated for himself.

Kayla opened her eyes, her voice trembling. โ€œLanden is calling. Can you answer for me? Just try not to worry him.โ€

โ€œSure thing!โ€ Jonny agreed eagerly.

But as soon as he hit the answer button, he blurted out, โ€œSon, your daddyโ€™s back!โ€ Kayla gritted her teeth in irritation.

โ€œWho are you?โ€ Landenโ€™s childish voice came through the phone. โ€œWhy do you have my mommyโ€™s phone?โ€

โ€œLanden, do you remember who your biological father is?โ€ Jonny asked nonchalantly.

Kaylaโ€™s heart raced. The Kyle family had never concealed the truth about Landenโ€™s parentage.

The elders of the Kyle family hoped that Landen would one day succeed Jonny as the leader of the Kington Gang. However, Landen and Tuff had grown so close that they felt almost like father and son, leaving the choice of which name to say hanging in the air.

โ€œJonny Kyle.โ€ Landenโ€™s young voice was unwavering.

Jonny smiled in satisfaction. โ€œGood boy!โ€

Kayla let out a sigh of relief. โ€œAโ€“are you my daddy?โ€ Landen asked, his voice uncertain.

โ€œYup, itโ€™s me, your daddy. Iโ€™m back!โ€ Jonny replied warmly.

โ€œYay! Daddyโ€™s back! Awesome!โ€ Landen cheered, his joyful shout echoed through the international call, his excitement impossible to miss.

โ€œDaddy, are you with Mommy? When are you guys coming back?โ€ Landen asked eagerly.

โ€œDaddy, Iโ€™ve gotten taller. I was first in my class for midterms this time!โ€ Landen continued, his voice full of pride.

โ€œThe other kids still say Iโ€™m super handsome and they all like me! I mustโ€™ve gotten my good looks from you, right, daddy?โ€ Landen added, sounding extra cheeky.

Landenโ€™s rapid-fire questions and compliments had Jonny grinning from ear to ear, running a hand over his face with a smug smile. โ€œOf course you doโ€”handsome and smart, just like me.โ€

โ€œDaddy, where are you guys right now?โ€ Landen asked.

Jonny replied offhandedly, โ€œWeโ€™re just at home.โ€

โ€œAt the villa?โ€ Landen asked.

โ€œYup,โ€ Jonny confirmed.

โ€œCan I come see you guys? Mommy can call in sick for me tomorrow!โ€ Landenโ€™s excitement was palpable.

But what Landen didnโ€™t know was that Jonny didnโ€™t feel any real connection to him. All Jonny wanted was the validation that he could claim Tuffโ€™s spot, to boost his ego.

Kayla wished she could tell Landen not to come, but she felt too timid to speak up. Jonny often did the opposite of what was expected just for fun, and at that moment, Kayla had no clue how he would treat Landen. She could only hope that, since Landen was his son, Jonny wouldnโ€™t do anything to harm him.

โ€œDaddyl Donโ€™t you miss me at all?โ€ Landenโ€™s voice trembled, sounding genuinely hurt.

Jonnyโ€™s face changed the moment he heard Landenโ€™s voice start to wobble. He said sharply, โ€œDonโ€™t come here. Just focus on your schoolwork.โ€

โ€œBโ€“but I miss you and Mommy,โ€ Landenโ€™s voice cracked with longing.

โ€œWait until your school break,โ€ Jonny replied bluntly. With that, he hung up the phone.

โ€˜Cold as ice, seriously!โ€™ Kayla felt a chill run through her. โ€˜That selfish psycho doesnโ€™t care about Landen at all!โ€™ she thought bitterly.

It had been a good thing he couldnโ€™t stand kids whiningโ€“at least he had turned Landen down. Kayla had been willing to sacrifice herself, as long as her loved ones remained safe.

โ€œI didnโ€™t expect you to tell our son that,โ€ Jonny said, tossing the phone aside.

Kayla spoke softly, โ€œMy parents and Monroe have always treated Landen like your successor. Last time in Norava, Monroe took Landen away and brought him back safe and sound.โ€

โ€œAlright, since you still have a bit of decency left, Iโ€™ll give you some water,โ€ Jonny said. He poured a glass of water and gently raised it to Kaylaโ€™s lips.

Kaylaโ€™s throat was as dry as a desert, but she refused to drink the water that Jonny had poured for her. She shook her head and said, โ€œIโ€™m not thirsty.โ€

โ€œAre you worried that Iโ€™ll slip something into your drink?โ€ Jonny flashed a mischievous grin. โ€œThanks for the reminder.โ€ He pulled some pills from his pocket and, ensuring Kayla was watching, dropped them into the glass. โ€œThere you go. Now go ahead and drink it,โ€ Jonny said, looking quite pleased with himself.

Kayla clenched her jaw, determined not to give in. Jonny sneered, โ€œDo you think you can fight back against me?โ€ He pried open her mouth and forced water down her throat.

Kayla didnโ€™t even have time to swallow before she started coughing violently. Water dripped down her chin and neck, soaking the front of her shirt. She looked even more disheveled and pitiful.

Jonny looked thrilled, a wild spark dancing in his eyes. โ€œWโ€“what did you give me?โ€ Kayla asked, her voice trembling.

โ€œSomething thatโ€™ll make you happy. Just wait, things are about to get interesting!โ€ Jonny laughed maniacally, like heโ€™d just scored a significant victory.

Kayla, who knew him all too well, could already guess what kind of drug it was. Despair washed over her once again. Tears streamed down her face, and despite her best efforts, she couldnโ€™t stop them. If she ever got another chance, she would tear that psycho apart and scatter his ashes herself.

The car horn echoed throughout the estate, and suddenly all the alarms began blaring. Aiden scratched his head, clearly annoyed. โ€œHe did change the trapsโ€ฆโ€

โ€œSo you canโ€™t get in now?โ€ Night Owl gave him a look.

โ€œYeahโ€ฆโ€ Aiden mumbled, unable to meet Night Owlโ€™s gaze as he stared down at his toes.

โ€œWhatever, we were going to break in anyway,โ€ Night Owl said with a shrug, pulling a bottle from her pocket and swallowing two pills.

Aiden blurted out, โ€œWhat are you taking?โ€

โ€œJust something to keep me sharp,โ€ Night Owl replied, rolling her shoulders and loosening up for the fight ahead.

Aiden couldnโ€™t hide his worry. โ€œAre you sure youโ€™re up for this? Donโ€™t push yourself too hardโ€ฆโ€

โ€œIf I canโ€™t do it, you think you can?โ€ Night Owl rolled her eyes.

Honestly, Aiden didnโ€™t seem any more confident himself.

Finally, Kyle Villaโ€™s gates swung open, but it wasnโ€™t Jonny who appeared. The visibly anxious old butler stammered, โ€œPlease, come in.โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s set a trap, just waiting for us to fall into itโ€ฆโ€ Amelia muttered, breaking into a cold sweat.

Landon patted her shoulder. โ€œStay in the car and wait for us.โ€

โ€œOkay,โ€ she agreed. Amelia knew she was no fighter, so she agreed without protest.

Tuff was the first to enter the villa, followed closely by Landon and the others. Just as the butler was about to close the gate, Amelia called out, โ€œPlease donโ€™t close it, okay?โ€

โ€œWellโ€ฆโ€ The butler hesitated. Part of him wanted to help, but the thought of Jonny made him freeze in fear. โ€˜That psycho had made it abundantly clear anyone who disobeyed his orders would end up dead!โ€™ he thought.

โ€œOrโ€ฆ Could you leave the door open a crack?โ€ Amelia pleaded. โ€œPlease, think about what Kayla and Landen have done for youโ€ฆโ€

The butler hesitated, but ultimately left the gate slightly ajar. โ€œThank you,โ€ Amelia said softly, filled with genuine gratitude. This way, the Flying Tiger Sectโ€™s backup could enter the villa.

โ€˜Come on, reinforcements, hurry up! Let tonight go as smoothly as it did when we took down the Mystic Sect earlier todayโ€ฆโ€™ Amelia anxiously prayed, pressing her palms together.

She felt utterly powerless nowโ€”hoping desperately for a sliver of mercy from above. Faced with all this plotting and brute force, she felt small and insignificant. โ€˜If only I could manipulate time like Monroe does,โ€™ she thought with a resigned sigh.

Time dragged on. Landon and the others had already been inside for ten minutes, and there was still no sound. Amelia felt anxious, waiting nervously. The reinforcements hadnโ€™t arrived yet, but someone unexpected appeared insteadโ€”Joanna.

โ€œYou?โ€ Amelia instantly tensed, and the bodyguards that Landon had left with her moved forward to shield her from Joanna.

โ€œIโ€™m not with the Montgomery familyโ€™s backup,โ€ Joanna volunteered.

Amelia relaxed a little. โ€œThen what are you doing here?โ€ she asked.

โ€œIโ€™m here to tell you a secret,โ€ Joanna said.

โ€œWhat is it?โ€ Amelia asked, still on guard.

โ€œThe person inside is just a cloneโ€”not the real one,โ€ Joanna said with a gentle laugh. Ever since she acquired her own cloned Porter, her entire demeanor had become noticeably softer. She carried herself with the sophistication and elegance of a matron.

Amelia remained wary. โ€œAre you sure? Then why does he remember things?โ€

โ€œThose arenโ€™t memoriesโ€”theyโ€™re just resentment Monroe implanted in him,โ€ Joanna said.

โ€œWait, you can do that?โ€ Amelia was both shocked and worried. โ€˜If heโ€™s got nothing but resentment and no love, wouldnโ€™t that put Kayla in even more danger?โ€™ Amelia thought anxiously.

โ€œHeโ€™s Monroeโ€™s trump card. Monroe let him loose right after you broke through the Mystic Sect,โ€ Joanna said.

โ€œI seeโ€ฆโ€ Amelia said with a wry smile. They thought they had already won, but they had no idea Monroe was still hiding an ace up his sleeve. They had just fallen from one trap into another, each one more dangerous than the last.

โ€œWhy are you telling me all this?โ€ Amelia asked.

โ€œJust think of it as thanks to Danielโ€™s mercy,โ€ Joanna replied, her tone unusually calm, with a smile.

โ€œThank youโ€ฆโ€ Amelia was flooded with complex emotions. By all accounts, she should have despised Joanna. Yet, in that moment, she realized she needed her. โ€œCan you tell me how to save Kayla?โ€ Amelia stammered, struggling to articulate the words.
