Chapter 340
A fragile soul was easier to hypnotize, and Night Owl succeeded. She asked, โWhat is Monroeโs goal?โ
โKill you all!โ
โHow?โ
โUse Kayla to have leverage over you!โ
It was a good idea, but it had already failed. Monroe is far too cunning to stop at that. Sending Jonny back to the Kyle family in broad daylight was a considerable risk. Even if Kayla was in his possession, he couldnโt take on the Flying Tiger Sect by himself.
Jonnyโs gaze was dull as he answered every question without hesitation, appearing truthful. Night Owl was about to inquire again, โWhat else does Monroe have planned?โ
โWellโฆโ Jonny suddenly lunged at Night Owl, gripping her tightlyโhis previously vacant eyes now sharp and focused.
Even after being shot, Jonnyโs grip was as firm as iron. Night Owl and Aiden together couldnโt pry his hands loose. Seeing Night Owl struggling for breath, Aiden, his hands trembling, was compelled to take Jonnyโs life once more. It marked the second time he had to kill Jonny.
Night Owl would never forget how much Aidenโs hands had trembled back then. Aiden couldnโt forget it either. Every time he closed his eyes, the two moments when he had killed his brother replayed and merged in his mind.
He remained by Night Owlโs bedside, his expression gradually becoming vacant. It wasnโt until Amelia brought over some late-night snacks that she said, โHere, have something to eat.โ
โThanksโฆโ Aiden replied, taking the dumplings and savoring them slowly. The bedside lamp illuminated a small pool of warm yellow light, highlighting his pale and delicate figure even more.
โNow that things have calmed down, get some rest after you eat. Owl still needs you,โ Amelia said softly.
Aiden paused, his voice barely above a whisper. โI had to kill my brother againโฆโ
โYou were courageous,โ Amelia said softly, noticing how his hands still trembledโshe could tell the trauma ran deep.
Amelia couldnโt understand it. Since Jonny was already their enemy, she wondered why Aiden was still so shaken. It had to be what people referred to as bloodline suppression, and it felt pretty strange.
Amelia had never experienced any of that so-called bloodline suppression from Daniel. Similarly, Landon, who spent half his life feeling guilty towards Kayla, never behaved this way either.
โWhy did he have to make me do it again?โ Aiden choked, his voice trembling. All that pent-up pain had nowhere to goโit was almost laughable, if it didnโt hurt so much.
โBecause heโs both evil and nuts! You canโt use normal logic to figure out someone like him,โ Amelia said.
Aiden gave a bitter, helpless smile. โMaybe you guys are right. My family, weโre all crazy, arenโt we?โ
Amelia felt a wave of awkwardness. She had often called him crazy in the past, but now her perception of him had changed entirely.
โBut Night Owl agreed to give it a try with me,โ Aiden said, wiping his face and finally smiling with relief.
Amelia thought, โWell, looks like he didnโt need me to cheer him up. Heโd already sorted himself out!โ
โIโm fine here. You should be with Kayla. Sheโs been through a lot again,โ Aiden said.
Amelia nodded. โI just have to askโare you sure that psycho is gone for good?โ
โYeah, Iโve already arranged for the cremation,โ Aiden replied.
โOkay,โ Amelia replied. She stepped out and closed the door.
In another room, Tuff and Landon were anxiously watching over Kayla, unable to sleep at all. They hardly touched the late-night snacks that had been brought in. Amelia realized they wouldnโt be able to relax until Kayla woke up, so she decided to have a chat with Brian instead.
โDr. Shawn, thank goodness you got here in time,โ Amelia said.
โWhenever something happens to her, please inform me immediately,โ Brian responded, once again toying with some rosemary. The air was filled with its fragrant scent.
Amelia turned to look and noticed that the rosemary in the living room had been completely stripped. Brian chuckled and said, โWhenever Iโm in a bad mood, I just end up messing with the plants.โ
โAt least you arenโt ruining them,โ Amelia joked. โDr. Shawn, youโve been such a great help to us. If thereโs ever anything we can do for you, please let us know.โ
โJust make sure you treat her right,โ Brian said.
โOf course. Is there anything else youโd like to suggest?โ Amelia asked.
โThatโs all,โ Brian replied.
Amelia was surprised. โIf Tuff canโt treat her properly, Iโll take her away,โ Brian said, his gaze distant, but it was clear he meant every word.
It immediately clicked for Amelia: Brian had been in love with Kayla all along. He had infiltrated the Kyle family and made enemies with the Mystic Sect, all in the hopes of ensuring sheโd have a happy, peaceful life.
โTuff is also having a tough time, so I didnโt tell him myself. Could you please pass it on when you get a chance?โ Brian said.
Ameliaโs emotions were a whirlwind, but she steeled herself and said, โYeah, I will.โ
As the sky gradually brightened, Kayla finally woke up. Seeing Tuff and Landon by her side, she felt a mix of emotionsโtouched yet a little hurt. Tears began to fall once more. โWhy didnโt you two go to sleep?โ
Tuff gently squeezed her hand and asked, โKayla, how are you feeling now?โ Meanwhile, Landon looked at her with a look of concern.
Kayla nodded. โIโm not in pain anymore. Iโm okay now.โ
โYou endured so much last night. Iโm sorry I couldnโt protect you,โ Tuff said, his voice thick with guilt as he had blamed himself all night. If only he had found a safer place, she would never have crossed paths with Jonny, and she wouldnโt have had to face all that suffering.
โItโs not your fault. That was all Monroeโs scheme,โ Kayla sighed. โBy the way, whatโs going on with the Mystic Sect?โ
โThe Montgomery brothers and Monica have all been taken back to the Flying Tiger Sect. Someoneโs already taken over things on the Mystic Sectโs end,โ Landon replied.
โSo, is it all over now?โ Kayla asked.
Landon nodded. โYeah.โ However, a restless irritation bubbled up inside him. Yesterday, everything had gone smoothlyโbreaking into and taking out Jonny. Perhaps it was just his mind playing tricks on him, but he couldnโt shake this uneasy feeling. It seemed as though things weren't truly over yet.
โSo, can we go home now?โ Kayla asked, reaching out and grabbing Tuffโs sleeve. โI miss Landon, and I miss Momโฆโ
Tuffโs nose stung, and his voice was hoarse as he replied, โOf course. Weโll head back today.โ
โThatโs wonderfulโฆโ Kayla let out a long sigh of relief and finally broke into a smile.
Landon said, โKayla, Tuff stayed up all night for you. You two should get some more rest.โ
โOkay,โ she replied. She scooted over in the bed, making room for Tuff.
Landon stepped outside and closed the door behind him. It was time to cuddle with Amelia. He was utterly exhausted. All he wanted was a big, warm hug.
As dawn arrived, the sun slowly rose above the horizon. The entire Kyle Villa had returned to its typical hustle and bustle, as if the chaos of the previous night had never occurred. Not far away, amidst a sea of tulips, stood a familiar figure.
โHoney,โ Landon said with a smile, striding over and pulling her into a tight hug, โKaylaโs awake. Sheโs okayโฆโ
โThatโs greatโฆโ Amelia turned to face Landon, her relieved smile turning to concern as she saw how worn out he looked. โYou must be exhausted. Letโs go get some rest.โ
โWhy didnโt you sleep? I told you to get some rest,โ Landon said, gently touching her faceโit felt so cold. Just how long had she been standing here? he thought.
โI canโt sleep when youโre not here,โ Amelia said with a gentle smile. โCome on, letโs get some rest.โ
โOkay,โ Landon replied. As their fingers were interlaced, he suddenly remembered someone and asked, โWhere is Dr. Shawn?โ
