Chapter 350

โ€œEverythingโ€™s fineโ€ฆโ€ Amelia said, her face lighting up as she put her phone down. She snuggled into Landonโ€™s arms, grinning. โ€œHoney, Kaylaโ€™s home, and sheโ€™s doing great.โ€

โ€œGood,โ€ Landon replied, feeling a wave of relief wash over him. He tightened his embrace around her. โ€œHow about we give Kimsey a little sister?โ€

โ€œNo way,โ€ Amelia shot back without a second thought.

โ€œWhy?โ€ Landon asked, a hint of curiosity in his voice.

โ€œI want some peace for a while,โ€ Amelia said, resting her head on his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat.

โ€œMom can help out, and we could always get a baby nurse,โ€ Landon suggested.

โ€œItโ€™s still a hassle. And being pregnant isnโ€™t exactly a walk in the park. Iโ€™m not up for it right now,โ€ Amelia replied.

โ€œAlright, whatever you say. Weโ€™ll wait until you feel like it,โ€ Landon said, giving her a reassuring squeeze.

โ€œGood.โ€

Deep down, Amelia loved kids and had even thought about giving Kimsey a little brother or sister. But everything that happened with the Mystic Sect wore her out. Now she craved quiet more than ever.

โ€œHoney, when are we going to Lunova?โ€ Amelia asked.

Landon knitted his brows in frustration.

Amelia, not noticing his mood, went on, โ€œMy brother wants me to go back for my birthday. He wants to celebrate it for me.โ€

โ€œThen, letโ€™s just go early,โ€ Landon replied.

โ€˜Guess thereโ€™s no way around it,โ€™ Landon thought with a silent sigh.

Ameliaโ€™s birthday was two days before Daniel and Edithโ€™s wedding day. Landon was hoping to stall as long as he could, thinking maybe his resignation would finally be approved.

However, it looked like his resignation wasnโ€™t getting approved after all. He was getting worried.

โ€˜Why are you always making things difficult for me, Mr. Mitchell?โ€™ Landon grumbled inwardly.

The next day arrived, and it was Bettyโ€™s birthday.

The house was buzzing with activity early in the morning. Kayla got up to get ready, but her stomach started to ache again.

โ€œHoney, my aunts and uncles are back,โ€ Tuff said, bursting into the room with a big grin.

โ€œOkay. Iโ€™ll be right there,โ€ Kayla replied, popping two painkillers before changing and heading out.

The second and third branches of the Prescott family had all come back, each bringing their kids along.

And every single one of those kids was a girl.

Theyโ€™d all gone to Norava for the wedding, but that day was such a whirlwind. Then Jeffrey suddenly showed up, so Kayla never got a chance to meet them properly.

She had to officially meet them today.

โ€œHello, Terrell, Lily, Maverick, and Diane,โ€ Kayla greeted them with a warm smile.

Following Maggieโ€™s advice, Kayla covered up the scars on her face today. Without those marks, she was breathtakingly beautiful, enough to make anyone do a double-take.

However, it had been ages since sheโ€™d worn a prosthetic mask, and her skin felt hot and a little suffocated underneath.

โ€œKayla, did your face heal up?โ€ Lizbeth, the eldest daughter of the second branch, asked curiously.

Everyone immediately turned their eyes to Kayla.

Kayla smiled and said, โ€œNot yet. There are many guests today. Iโ€™m afraid to scare the children, so I did a little cover-up.โ€

โ€œOh! But you look gorgeous today, Kayla. Ever thought about getting some work done?โ€ Samantha, Lizbethโ€™s younger sister, leaned in, her eyes sparkling.

Both girls were gorgeous and super sweet.

Kayla nodded. โ€œIโ€™m already working on it.โ€

โ€œAwesome! You will soon be the most beautiful sister-in-law in all of Lunova,โ€ Lizbeth said, grinning from ear to ear.

Lily chimed in, โ€œKayla, Tuffโ€™s the only boy in this generation of the Prescott family, so youโ€™re our one and only sister-in-law. The girls adore you.โ€

โ€œThank you!โ€ Kayla said, her face showing genuine emotion, though her heart stayed guarded deep down.

With everything sheโ€™d been through, she never hoped the Prescott family would ever truly accept her.

โ€˜Itโ€™s rare for sisters-in-law to get along. Look at the way Cynthia treated Mom, enough said,โ€™ thought Kayla.

โ€œKayla, I like you, too,โ€ another voice piped up.

Two more girls arrived a bit late. They were Alina and Zara Prescott from the third branch of the Prescott family.

Diane was Joyceโ€™s aunt.

Just when Kayla thought Diane might not be fond of her, Diane suddenly said, โ€œKayla, I heard Joyceโ€™s been giving you trouble?โ€

โ€œNot really,โ€ Kayla replied, surprised, but she kept her cool with a calm smile.

โ€œJoyce has been super competitive ever since she was a kid. She always has to come out on top. You donโ€™t need to bother with her,โ€ Diane said.

Kayla smiled. โ€œAlright, thanks.โ€

โ€˜Just because they are family doesnโ€™t mean Dianeโ€™s going to cover for Joyce. Guess I donโ€™t have to worry about that. What a relief,โ€™ Kayla thought.

โ€œKayla, Tuff already gave us instructions. When Joyce shows up, weโ€™ll make sure to keep her away from you so she wonโ€™t bother you,โ€ Alina said.

โ€˜Joyce is coming, too?โ€™ Kayla thought, surprised.

Kayla didnโ€™t expect that.

Sheโ€™d checked the guest list. There was no invitation for the Lambert family.

โ€˜People are just showing up uninvited now? So shameless,โ€™ Kayla thought.

โ€œKayla, how did you and Tuff meet? Tell us the story!โ€ one of the girls asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

โ€œIโ€™d rather hear about the thrill of fighting and shooting from Kaylaโ€ฆโ€ another girl chimed in, grinning.

The girls buzzed around Kayla, chattering away.

Lily and Diane just sat back, smiling and listening, looking like guests with nothing to do but enjoy the lively scene.

Kayla handed out the gifts sheโ€™d brought for the girls. Each one was a unique, high-end piece of jewelry or a designer bag.

The girls might come from wealthy families, but they didnโ€™t have that kind of spending power themselves yet. Normally, they couldn't afford stuff like this.

With gifts in hand, they were all smiles, calling Kayla sweetly. Even Landon got royal treatment from them.

Landon had never been surrounded by so many โ€œrelativesโ€ before, so he was buzzing with excitement and joy.

โ€œKayla, go and check on the dishes in the kitchen and see if anythingโ€™s missing or needs fixing. And make sure the seating is all set up,โ€ Maggie called out from across the room.

Maggie was throwing her weight around as the matriarch.

The girls all got a little nervous. Theyโ€™d heard Kayla was a strong woman who could handle herself in a fight. โ€˜Can she put up with Maggieโ€™s bossy attitude? Are they gonna end up butting heads?โ€™ they wondered.

โ€œOn it!โ€ Kayla called back.

She gave a quick wave to the ladies and girls, then headed off to the kitchen to get things organized.

The girls shot each other looks.

โ€œKayla is chill,โ€ one of them whispered.

โ€œCanโ€™t believe she didnโ€™t lose her temperโ€ฆโ€ another murmured.

Lily and Diane just exchanged smiles, keeping their thoughts to themselves.

They knew the drill when it came to this kind of family drama.

A smart daughter-in-law would never embarrass her mother-in-law in public.

Kayla was one of the clever ones.

However, whether Kayla, the strong-willed woman, would end up clashing with Maggie in the future, well, who knows? Looks like things were about to get lively in the Prescott family!

Betty wasnโ€™t into anything flashy, so her birthday party was held right at home.

The whole family gathered in the morning, and friends and relatives came by in the afternoon. They didnโ€™t invite many people. There were only about ten tables of guests altogether.

The butler and chef had everything running like clockwork, so the matriarch didnโ€™t have to lift a finger.

Kayla took a quick look around the kitchen, but everything was already taken care of.

Lily came in, smiling. โ€œMaggie likes to be in charge. Donโ€™t take it to heart.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve never managed household stuff before, so I guess I do need to learn,โ€ Kayla said, then sat down in the kitchen and started playing a game on her phone.

Lily thought, โ€˜This is what she calls learning? Sheโ€™s got her way of pretending to go along while doing whatever she wants!โ€™

โ€œLily, what brings you to the kitchen?โ€ Kayla asked, not even looking up from her game.

Lily replied, โ€œYour sisters wanted some juice, so I came to make some.โ€

โ€œLily, youโ€™re such a good homemaker, even making juice,โ€ Kayla teased.

โ€œHa! Making juice makes me a good homemaker?โ€ Lily snorted.

โ€œOf course. Iโ€™m clueless about housework. All Iโ€™m good at is blowing cash and throwing punches,โ€ Kayla shrugged. โ€œLucky for me, my money-making machine keeps my bank account overflowing.โ€

Lily could only stare, speechless.

โ€˜Seriously, do you have to humblebrag like that?โ€™ Lily thought.
