Chapter 377

A few days later, Landon took Amelia back to Norava.

Now that he was no longer working for the Flying Tiger Sect, he finally had his freedom.

Kayla saw them off at the airport.

Landon asked, โ€œKayla, arenโ€™t you coming home with us?โ€

โ€œLunova is his home, so Iโ€™ll stay a bit longer,โ€ Kayla replied.

Now that her looks had been restored and she could bear children, there was nothing left that could scare her.

Since sheโ€™d married Tuff, she should be part of his world now, rather than constantly making him follow hers.

โ€œKayla, if anyone from the Prescott family gives you a hard time, just call me,โ€ Landon said.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry. No one can mess with me,โ€ Kayla replied.

She just smiled, unconcerned.

She was ambitious and could handle herself in a fight. There werenโ€™t many people who could push her around.

โ€œKayla, good luck with the baby!โ€ Amelia said with a mysterious wink.

Kayla blushed. โ€œThanks, Iโ€™ll take that! You two should think about the second child as well!โ€

After all, since Kimsey already had powers, it wouldnโ€™t hurt to have a few more powered babies.

But Amelia quickly waved her hands. โ€œLetโ€™s wait until Kimseyโ€™s a bit older, okay?โ€

Then she turned to Landon. โ€œHoney, your sister thinks Kimsey got his powers from me.โ€

โ€œYeah, that could be true,โ€ Landon replied, feeling his heart skip a beat.

Amelia saw the look on his face and knew exactly what he was worried about.

The idea of having a second child was completely off the table now.

Autumn faded into winter, and once December was over, the New Year was just around the corner.

Ever since Kayla regained her ability to have children, Maggie stopped giving her a hard time, and no one in the family dared to gossip about her anymore.

Tuffโ€™s grandmother, Betty, often invited her over to chat, and with Tuffโ€™s support, Kayla was living a life of ease.

One day, other relatives of the Prescott family came back to Prescottโ€™s main house to talk about the New Year party.

As the future mistress of the Prescott family, Kayla was also obliged to take part.

They had to discuss everything โ€“ how to celebrate the New Year, what to cook for the big reunion dinner, and even what gifts to bring when visiting relatives before and after the holiday.

For the first time, Kayla got a taste of just how much hassle came with a big family, and honestly, it was giving her a headache.

Suddenly, Lily brought up Joyce. โ€œMaggie, Joyce is your goddaughter. Arenโ€™t you going to invite the Lambert family over for the New Year party?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m just worried the Lamberts might be too busyโ€ฆโ€ Maggie said hesitantly.

Ever since the emerald necklace incident, it had been hard to get in touch with Joyce. She really had no idea if Joyce had managed to sort everything out.

โ€˜What a headache,โ€™ Maggie sighed to herself.

โ€œThe Lamberts should really come back for the New Year. God-relations are still family, so we ought to keep up the ties,โ€ Lily said as she went ahead and added the Lambert family to the list without even asking.

Then she shot Kayla a pointed look.

Kayla let out a soft chuckle, picked up the pen, and crossed out the Lamberts off the list. โ€œLily, this is a family-only dinner. If theyโ€™re not blood relatives, thereโ€™s no need to invite them.โ€

โ€œKayla, I never thought you were the petty type. Why not show a little respect for your elders?โ€ Lily said with a smile. โ€œEven if theyโ€™re just god family, the Lamberts are actually related to Diane by blood.โ€

โ€œDiane, should we invite them?โ€ Kayla asked, tilting her head.

Diane shot Lily a glare and said, โ€œWeโ€™re barely even related. No need to invite them.โ€

โ€œLily, so youโ€™re insisting on inviting them, huh? You just want to stir things up, donโ€™t you?โ€ Kayla set down her pen, looking completely unruffled.

She mightโ€™ve been the youngest in the room, but she totally owned it.

Lilyโ€™s heart skipped a beat, but she quickly recovered and flashed a smile. โ€œCome on, itโ€™s the holidays! The more people, the more fun, right, Maggie?โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ Maggie replied, clearly distracted.

Lily beamed. โ€œEven your mother-in-law says so, Kayla.โ€

Kayla drawled, โ€œArenโ€™t you worried this might bring some bad luck?โ€

Her slender fingers tapped the table.

The crisp sound was just right, like plucking a string and making everyone tense.

โ€œCome on, Kayla, why bring up bad luck? The Lamberts once saved Tuffโ€™s life โ€“ thereโ€™s no way that could bring any misfortune,โ€ Lily said, purposely digging up old history.

Maggieโ€™s face turned pale, and Diane fell silent.

โ€˜Saved Tuffโ€™s life?โ€™ Kayla mused.

Sheโ€™d never heard about that before.

But that didnโ€™t have to do with her.

Even if the Lambert family did save Tuff, it was the Prescott family that owed them โ€“ not her. Besides, Tuffโ€™s always been big on loyalty, yet the way he treated Joyce was pretty cold. Whatever debt there was, he mustโ€™ve already paid it back by now.

โ€œLily, you really spilled a lot of secrets today. Guess Iโ€™ll have to make Tuff sleep on the couch tonight,โ€ Kayla said, turning to the housekeeper. โ€œGo pick out a nice, big throw pillow and put it in my room.โ€

The housekeeper glanced nervously at Maggie, not daring to respond right away.

The Prescott family was all about boys over girls. Tuff was the only grandson, and heโ€™d been spoiled rotten since he was a kid.

No one would dare make him sleep on the couch.

โ€œWhat, are you all just going to ignore me now?โ€ Kaylaโ€™s face turned cold.

The housekeeper was silently freaking out.

Maggie banged her fist on the table. โ€œThatโ€™s enough!โ€

โ€œMomโ€ฆโ€ Kayla started.

โ€œShut up!โ€

Maggie snapped, cutting Kayla off. โ€œI brought you here today so you could learn how to be the lady of the house. Not only are you disrespecting your elders, now youโ€™re talking about abusing your husband? Youโ€™re completely out of line!โ€

Kayla let out a low, cold laugh.

Her voice was so icy and sharp, it made Maggie freeze in her seat.

Maggie stammered, โ€œWhatโ€ฆ what are you laughing at?โ€

โ€œMom, didnโ€™t you notice? Lily just wants to watch the drama in our side of the family!โ€ Kayla sneered.

Lily protested, โ€œKayla, donโ€™t go accusing me of things I didnโ€™t do. What kind of drama could there possibly be in your family?โ€

โ€œOh, thereโ€™s plenty,โ€ Kayla shot back. โ€œJoyce has always had a thing for Tuff, and for a while, she was Momโ€™s dream daughter-in-law. What kind of aunt tries to put her nephewโ€™s wife and the woman who used to have a crush on him in the same room?โ€

Kayla called Lily out without mercy, exposing her real intentions.

Maggie finally realized what was going on. โ€œLily, you really tried to set me up, huh?โ€

โ€œMaggie, I swear, Iโ€™m not behind this! Donโ€™t listen to her, sheโ€™s just making things up. Weโ€™ve always invited the Lamberts before โ€“ if we suddenly stop this year, itโ€™ll look badโ€ฆโ€ Lily was clearly nervous and rushed to explain herself.

โ€œThatโ€™s fitting,โ€ Diane cut in.

Lily shot her a sharp look. โ€œDiane, thatโ€™s your own cousinโ€™s family โ€“ arenโ€™t you supposed to be on their side?โ€

โ€œBack when Tuff was single, it didnโ€™t matter who we invited. But now that heโ€™s married, things are different. We shouldnโ€™t give the Lamberts any more chances for awkwardness or inappropriate closeness,โ€ Diane said, her tone righteous and unwavering.

Kayla glanced over at her, a hint of admiration in her eyes.

When Kayla first met Lily, she came off so warm and friendly that Kayla actually thought she could trust her.

Sheโ€™d only kept her guard up around Diane, since she was Joyceโ€™s cousin.

But time always showed peopleโ€™s true colors.

It turned out Lily was the worst, and Diane didnโ€™t even bother siding with the Lambert family.

Just as the tension in the room was about to boil over, Joyce called out from the hallway, her voice bright and cheerful. โ€œMaggie, I came by with some early New Yearโ€™s presents!โ€

Maggie stiffened on the spot.

โ€˜Why does she have to show up right now?โ€™ she thought.

She straightened up with all the authority of the family matriarch and shot everyone a warning look, telling them to stop arguing.

When she went out to greet Joyce, she froze in shock.

โ€œYourโ€ฆ your belly?โ€ Maggie stammered.

โ€œMaggie, Iโ€™m pregnant. Itโ€™s Tuffโ€™s baby,โ€ Joyce said, her voice soft but steady.
