Chapter 388

Tuff had just finished a long night shift and was on his way home in the early morning, so tired he could barely keep his eyes open.

When he got home, Kayla had already set out breakfast. She greeted him with a gentle smile, โ€œHoney, youโ€™re off work? Eat something before you get some sleep.โ€

โ€œAlright,โ€ Tuff replied, settling down at the table.

Tuff cupped the steaming bowl of soup in his hands and ate it.

The soup his wife had made herself was truly comfortingโ€“after just half a bowl, his whole body felt warm.

โ€œHoney, youโ€™re the best,โ€ Tuff said, looking at Kayla with affection.

It would be perfect if he could just take a nap with Kayla by his side. Sheโ€™s so soft and smells so goodโ€“holding her close was pure bliss.

โ€œThe court summons should reach Joyce today,โ€ Kayla said.

Tuff frowned. โ€œDonโ€™t even mention her in front of me. Sheโ€™s bad luck.โ€

โ€œI just wanted to let you know, thatโ€™s all,โ€ Kayla said with a smile.

โ€œJust donโ€™t kill her. Handle her however you like,โ€ Tuff said.

โ€œYeah,โ€ Kayla replied.

After Tuff finished eating, Kayla cleared the table and prepared to leave.

Tuff asked, โ€œHoney, where are you going?โ€

โ€œLandon opened a company for me, so Iโ€™m heading to work,โ€ Kayla said.

โ€œWhat?โ€

He was instantly on high alert, wide awake as if someone had splashed cold water on his face.

Kayla flashed a gentle smile. โ€œThe Kingsley family is making moves in Lunova, and Iโ€™m the one taking the lead.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m coming with you?โ€ Tuff said, snatching up his coat, his face set like he was heading into battle.

โ€œThe Kingsley familyโ€™s fortune could feed their descendants for agesโ€“whatโ€™s the point of expanding in Lunova? Seriously, what a load of crap! Landonโ€™s totally throwing me a warning here,โ€ Tuff thought, feeling a chill run down his spine.

โ€œNo need, Iโ€™ve got this,โ€ Kayla said, nudging Tuff toward the bedroom. โ€œYou worked all night. Go catch up on some sleep.โ€

โ€œBut Iโ€™m not tired anymoreโ€ฆโ€ Tuff grumbled.

โ€œYou still need to rest,โ€ Kayla insisted.

Kayla wouldnโ€™t budge, and Tuff whined, his face scrunched up. โ€œHoneyโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDonโ€™t you want the Kingsley family to expand in Lunova?โ€ Kayla asked.

โ€œNoโ€ฆโ€ Tuff replied, though he didnโ€™t mean it at all.

That was a total lie.

Kayla couldnโ€™t help but laugh. โ€œThen go to sleep. Iโ€™ll make dinner when I get back this afternoon.โ€

โ€œHoney, let me send some people with you,โ€ Tuff said.

โ€œNo need. Aaronโ€™s here,โ€ Kayla said.

Tuff was stunned.

โ€˜Seriously? Even Aaronโ€™s been sent over. Landonโ€™s totally trying to keep me in check,โ€™ Tuff thought.

โ€œBe good, donโ€™t stress yourself,โ€ Kayla said, pressing a kiss to Tuffโ€™s forehead before heading out.

Tuff felt like crying. This was all Joyceโ€™s fault for stirring up trouble again.

Meanwhile, Joyce woke up snuggled in a guyโ€™s warm arms.

She was totally hooked on the feeling and didnโ€™t want to move at all.

For a second, she got why that old emperor from the stories never wanted to leave his loverโ€™s side.

If it were Tuff lying next to her, sheโ€™d never get out of bed eitherโ€“sheโ€™d be just like that emperor, skipping work every morning.

Just thinking about it made her bitterness flare up even more.

She picked up her phone and sent the video sheโ€™d edited last night over to Kayla, feeling a bit smug.

Kayla replied almost instantly: [Got it.]

Joyce burst out laughing. โ€œWhat a weirdo.โ€

โ€˜Who actually replies โ€œGot itโ€ after receiving a video like this?โ€™ Joyce thought, rolling her eyes.

Alright, now it was just a waiting game. Kayla would definitely call once she finished watching the video.

Joyce could already picture Kayla getting all worked up and taking it out on Tuff, and the thought made her feel pretty smug.

There was no such thing as a marriage that couldnโ€™t be brokenโ€“just mistresses who didnโ€™t try hard enough.

Joyce was sure she could split Kayla and Tuff up for good.

Joyce rolled over and accidentally bumped into the guyโ€™s morning erection.

The man opened his eyes, gazing at her intensely. โ€œBaby, do you want it?โ€

Joyce was in a great mood and agreed with a smile. โ€œJust go easy on me, okay?โ€

โ€œSure!โ€ he replied.

They ended up tangled together again, and Joyce was left crying softly beneath him, like a little kitten.

Kayla glanced at the live feed and clicked out of it.

โ€˜Such a freak!โ€™ Kayla thought, rolling her eyes.

โ€˜Still not done crying from last night?โ€™ she snarked to herself.

As for the video Joyce had sent, Kayla didnโ€™t even bother to look at itโ€”she just saved it for later, knowing it might come in handy.

Joyce didnโ€™t get home until noon.

She walked in and spotted the court summons sitting right thereโ€“she was totally stunned for a moment.

She tore open the envelope and almost passed out on the spot.

Landon had actually sued her for defamation.

โ€˜Seriously? Itโ€™s been days and sheโ€™s still coming for me? What a psycho!โ€™ Joyce thought, rolling her eyes.

Furious, Joyce flung the summons onto the floor.

She checked her phone, surprised to see no reply.

โ€˜Unbelievable!โ€™ Joyce thought, feeling like her nerves were on edge.

Unable to stand the suspense, she just dialed up Kayla. โ€œDid you see the video?โ€

โ€œYeah, it was pretty exciting,โ€ Kayla replied, totally unfazed.

She was signing documents as she answered.

Her tone was so calm, it was like she was just talking about the weather.

Joyce choked for a second, then demanded, her voice sharper, โ€œThatโ€™s it? Thatโ€™s all you have to say?โ€

โ€œWhat else?โ€ Kayla shot back.

โ€œTuff was with me last night. Doesnโ€™t that bother you at all?โ€ Joyce pressed.

โ€œHe was on night shift,โ€ Kayla said, her voice steady.

โ€œOh, really? Night shift with me, you mean. Go ahead, ask his companyโ€“he wasnโ€™t even there last night,โ€ Joyce shot back, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

โ€œHe wasnโ€™t supposed to be there anyway,โ€ Kayla replied, cool as ever.

She just rolled her eyes, speechless.

Tuff was actually on duty with the Flying Tiger Sect! Joyce had no clue about his real identity, and here she was, acting all smug, totally clueless, making a fool of herself.

And the funniest thingโ€“Joyce was totally clueless about how much of a clown she was making of herself.

Joyce was fuming.

She didnโ€™t believe any wife could be this calm. Kaylaโ€™s definitely just putting on a show in front of her. Sheโ€™s probably freaking out inside.

Joyce let out a cold laugh. โ€œLooks like youโ€™ve finally come to your senses. Youโ€™re not even trying to fight me anymore.โ€

โ€œMs. Lambert, you got the court summons, right? Iโ€™ve got the Kingsley Groupโ€™s legal team on this, so you better take it seriously,โ€ Kayla said before hanging up.

The new company was just getting started, and there were so many things to handle. She was really swamped.

Joyce was so pissed she chucked her phone across the room.

โ€˜Seriously, how can Kayla stay so chill?โ€™ Joyce fumed, totally losing it.

But right now, the real problem was this damn summons she had to deal with.

Her head was throbbing as she started calling up lawyers.

However, facts spoke louder than words. No matter how skilled, a lawyer could not twist the truth.

Besides, the Kingsley familyโ€™s legal team was basically unbeatable in Norava.

Joyce lost and was fined. She had to pay Kayla just one dollar for emotional damage.

It was downright humiliating.

Honestly, if the compensation had been higher, it wouldnโ€™t have stung so much. But Kayla had only asked for a single dollarโ€“just to rub it in.

Aaron sent the court verdict to everyone at the new company and told them to spam their Instagram with it for three days straight.

Joyce instantly became the biggest joke in Lunovaโ€™s social sceneโ€“she was blacklisted from every high-society party in town.

Meanwhile, Kayla was back in the spotlight, her name on everyoneโ€™s lips.

โ€œWhen the Princess of Kingsley said sheโ€™s gonna sue, she actually does itโ€“her follow-through is insane!โ€

โ€œThe Kingsley Groupโ€™s got a new company in Lunova, and itโ€™s obvious theyโ€™re backing the princess. Landonโ€™s a business shark, and heโ€™s got eyes and ears everywhere in this city. Weโ€™d be nuts to mess with him.โ€

โ€œKaylaโ€™s move was like a roundhouse kick out of nowhereโ€“hits you right in the gut and thereโ€™s no way to dodge it!โ€

โ€œThe princess is a total badass!โ€

Aaron was loving every second of it. He sent a message back to Norava. [The Princess is really showing her power nowโ€ฆ]

[Glad to hear it.] Landon grinned at the nickname. [So, howโ€™s Tuff holding up?]

[Other than working at the company and with the Flying Tiger Sect, heโ€™s mostly just spending time with her.] Aaron replied.

[Keep watching him.] Landon said.

Aaron hesitated. [Is that really necessary, Mr. Kingsley?]

Landon snorted. [Itโ€™s not that I donโ€™t trust himโ€”Iโ€™m just worried heโ€™ll get played by some woman. The guyโ€™s clueless. If my sister wasnโ€™t so sharp, heโ€™d be bawling his eyes out somewhere by now.]

Aaron glanced back at the CEOโ€™s office, where Tuff was bustling around attentively, helping Kayla handle her tasks and ease her burdens.

Tuff really didnโ€™t have it easy.

He owed Joyce his life, so he couldnโ€™t really go all out against her.
