Chapter 407

That night, Daniel couldnโ€™t sleep either.

He couldnโ€™t stop thinking about healing powers, resurrection abilities, and how genetics played into all of it.

Monroeโ€™s powers were a family thing. He got them, but Marvel didnโ€™t.

The Kingsley family never had any abilities, so Kimsey mustโ€™ve inherited hers from Amelia, with a genetic twist making them even stronger.

He thought, โ€˜But where did Ameliaโ€™s powers come from? Was it from the Zuckerberg family or the Hughes family?โ€™

Suddenly, Daniel remembered the secret manual the Montgomery family had returned.

He couldnโ€™t read it, but that didnโ€™t matter. He could Google it or just ask people online for help.

The worldโ€™s a big place. Maybe someone out there could actually read this stuff.

Daniel clumsily copied a few of the characters, snapped a picture, and posted it online asking for answers.

After finishing his morning cultivation, Lennon was scrolling through the internet as usual when he stumbled upon the help post. His expression changed dramatically.

He dashed into the church. โ€œSir, weโ€™ve got a problemโ€ฆโ€

โ€œMommy, letโ€™s go playโ€ฆโ€ Kimsey whined.

After the snow cleared up, the moment Kimsey woke up, he started pestering to go to the amusement park.

Amelia wasnโ€™t in the mood for that.

It was time for a little lesson.

โ€œKimsey, you touched Bettyโ€™s leg yesterday, didnโ€™t you?โ€ Amelia asked softly, speaking each word clearly.

Kimsey beamed, clearly expecting a compliment.

โ€œKimsey, do you really think that just because you helped someone heal, you get to go to the amusement park?โ€ Amelia asked.

โ€œYes!โ€ Kimsey nodded enthusiastically.

Amelia took a deep breath. The explanation was over. It was time for a little scare.

โ€œKimsey, do you realize youโ€™re in trouble?โ€ Amelia said.

He stared blankly at his mom, not understanding.

โ€˜Did I do something wrong?โ€™ Kimsey wondered.

โ€œKimsey, not everyone is as amazing as you are. So you canโ€™t just go around healing people. Otherwise, people might think youโ€™re some kind of freak and take you away, and youโ€™ll never see me again,โ€ Amelia warned.

Panic flickered in Kimseyโ€™s eyes, and his mouth twisted as he looked like he was about to burst into tears.

โ€œIโ€™m not a monster! Donโ€™t catch meโ€ฆ Donโ€™t take me awayโ€ฆโ€ Kimsey sobbed.

His words tumbled out in a blur, mixed with sobs and wails, all jumbled up in fear.

Ameliaโ€™s heart ached as she gathered Kimsey into her arms.

She just let him cry it out.

Amelia had to make sure Kimsey understood just how serious this was.

Usually, whenever Kimsey started crying, Amelia would rush to comfort him. But today, Amelia didnโ€™t budge.

Inside, Kimsey was a mess of panic โ€“ scared heโ€™d done something really bad, and terrified that the bad guys would come take him away.

Frightened, he reached out his chubby little hands to hug Ameliaโ€™s neck, but Amelia, steeling herself, refused to let him.

โ€œKimsey, listen to me. Unless I tell you to help, you canโ€™t just heal people whenever you want, got it?โ€ Amelia said firmly.

โ€œIโ€ฆ Yesโ€ฆโ€ Kimsey whimpered, still sniffling.

โ€œAnd another thing โ€“ there arenโ€™t any rules for going to the amusement park. If you want to go, I will always find time to take you,โ€ Amelia reassured him.

โ€œOkayโ€ฆโ€ Kimsey mumbled, his voice still shaky.

Seeing Kimsey finally agree, Amelia let out a sigh of relief. She kissed her sonโ€™s cheek and gently wiped away his tears.

โ€œAlright, no more tears. I love you the most, and Iโ€™ll always keep you safe,โ€ Amelia cooed softly.

โ€œMommyโ€ฆโ€ Kimsey sobbed, his cries growing louder.

He was bawling now, tears streaming down his face.

Ameliaโ€™s heart ached as she hugged him, whispering comfort.

She couldnโ€™t help but feel bad for being so harsh, even if she knew it was necessary.

Amelia just hoped Kimsey really understood and wouldnโ€™t go healing people so carelessly again.

โ€œWhyโ€™s she crying like that?โ€ Landon asked as he walked in.

Kimsey, who had just stopped crying, immediately reached out his arms, looking all pitiful. โ€œDaddy, hugโ€ฆโ€

Landon scooped her up, ready to comfort him.

But Amelia quickly cut in, โ€œIโ€™m teaching him a lesson here. Donโ€™t go spoiling her.โ€

Landon handed Kimsey right back to Amelia without missing a beat. โ€œListen to your mom.โ€

Kimsey froze for a second, then suddenly burst into loud, heartbroken sobs.

His wailing was so loud it startled Edith downstairs, who hurried up and asked, โ€œWhat happened to Kimsey?โ€

โ€œEdithโ€ฆโ€ Kimsey whimpered, his voice full of misery.

But before Edith could scoop him up for a hug, Amelia firmly stepped in and stopped her.

โ€œItโ€™s alright, kids are bound to cry sometimes,โ€ Amelia said with a gentle smile. โ€œLandon just got off his night shift. Letโ€™s help her settle down for a nap together.โ€

โ€œUh, sure,โ€ Edith said, still looking puzzled.

She left, still puzzled. โ€˜Kimsey was usually such a good kid, so why all the tears today?โ€™

What Edith didnโ€™t know was that after she left, Kimsey got another round of โ€œparentingโ€ from Landon, and in the end, he cried himself to sleep.

Amelia finally felt a weight lift off her shoulders โ€“ looked like the lesson had gotten through.

Seeing how tired Landon looked, she didnโ€™t ask for details.

Instead, Landon lay down on the bed and started telling her about last night, taking his time.

โ€œKimsey fixed up Mrs. Prescottโ€™s leg in no time, but sheโ€™s so used to that wheelchair and scared of the pain that she hasnโ€™t even realized her legโ€™s actually healed,โ€ Landon explained.

โ€œI didnโ€™t let him see Dr. Mitchell. The fewer people who know about Kimseyโ€™s secret, the better.โ€

โ€œTuffโ€™s plan is to have her hang out at Project Azureveil for a few days, then say she got cured with some cutting-edge modern medicine,โ€ Landon added.

Everyone was wracking their brains so Maggie wouldnโ€™t catch on to what really happened.

Amelia was flooded with mixed emotions.

Sure, Kimseyโ€™s powers had healed Kayla,

But those same powers meant Kimsey could get exposed anytime, anywhere.

At least with Monroe gone, that was one less threat hanging over Kimsey.

โ€œHoney, letโ€™s have another baby,โ€ Landon suddenly said.

Amelia nearly jumped out of her skin. โ€œAre you out of your mind?โ€

โ€œI talked it over with Kayla last night. If our kids are destined to be extraordinary, then having another one with powers wouldnโ€™t hurt. And if Kimseyโ€™s the only one with abilities, his siblings could protect him,โ€ Landon said, completely serious.

Amelia had been so freaked out by Kimseyโ€™s powers last night that the last thing she wanted was to have another baby.

She was half tempted to just move to some deserted island and live there.

โ€œHoney, we canโ€™t be with Kimsey forever. When weโ€™re old, whoโ€™s going to protect her?โ€ Landon pulled her into his arms. โ€œThink about last night โ€“ someoneโ€™s gotta handle things. And remember how much safer you felt when you had your brother around?โ€

โ€œYeahโ€ฆโ€ Amelia murmured.

She closed her eyes, remembering how alone and helpless she felt when she first came to on that operating table.

There was no one she could trust โ€“ no family, no friends.

Ever since she could remember, sheโ€™d been emotionally manipulated by Walter and her stepmother and stepsister. Her whole world had been that tiny little house.

When her family collapsed, her whole world came crashing down with it.

If sheโ€™d had an elder brother back then, she never wouldโ€™ve been so helpless.

See? Thatโ€™s why siblings matter.

Amelia opened her eyes, crystal clear and determined. โ€œLetโ€™s do it! Letโ€™s give Kimsey a whole bunch of brothers and sisters!โ€
