Chapter 82

The violent impact caused the car to shake violently, and Amelia lost her balance, falling into Landonโ€™s waist with her face down.

Landon gasped in surprise and quickly lifted Amelia up with his left hand.

โ€œIโ€“I didnโ€™t mean to,โ€ Amelia said, lowering her head. Her face visibly turned red.

โ€œMrs. Kingsley, are you okay?โ€ Aaron hurriedly changed from calling โ€œMr. Kingsleyโ€ to โ€œMrs. Kingsleyโ€ and checked the condition inside the car. As the identity of the perpetrator, Aaron couldnโ€™t let anyone know Landon was in the car.

โ€œWeโ€™re fine.โ€ Amelia quickly got out of the car and closed the door behind her. The mountain breeze brushed, and the blush on her face faded somewhat.

Aaron looked at Ameliaโ€™s flushed face and asked in surprise, โ€œYourโ€ฆโ€

โ€œBecause I was scared.โ€ Amelia tried to appear calm, but she couldnโ€™t hide her shyness.

Aaron suddenly realized, โ€˜They were doing intimate things in the car. Although Mr. Kingsley couldnโ€™t fully move his body, his desires knew no bounds. His recovery must be near.โ€™

โ€œIโ€™m sorry. Did I hurt you?โ€ A man stepped out of the Rolls-Royce, tall and elegantly dressed. He had a noble aura and was polite, making him quite a sight.

Aaron glanced at the license plate and let out a sigh of relief. โ€˜Itโ€™s from Helodia city, so he seems unrelated to Henry.โ€™

โ€œWeโ€™re fine, but the car needs repairs,โ€ Aaron said.

The man smiled and handed over a check. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, but I have urgent matters and canโ€™t delay. Hereโ€™s the cost of the repairs.โ€

โ€˜Goodness, three hundred thousand dollars. Thatโ€™s enough to buy a luxury car. He really is generous,โ€™ Amelia thought and couldnโ€™t help but glance at the man again.

The man also happened to look at Amelia. โ€œMiss, you look familiar. Have we met before?โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Amelia replied, feeling a bit awkward. She thought, โ€˜This pickup line is so clichรฉ.โ€™

Aaron sensed the manโ€™s intention as he said, โ€œThis is Mrs. Kingsley.โ€

โ€œOh, Mrs. Kingsley, nice to meet you.โ€ The man immediately changed his address, displaying gentlemanly manners in every gesture.

Aaron added, โ€œThe Kingsley family doesnโ€™t extort people. You can just give 15 thousand dollars for the repair costs.โ€

โ€œAlright.โ€ The man rewrote the check.

Aaron took it, and the two vehicles parted ways.

Landonโ€™s car was only slightly dented at the rear, so there was no need to change cars.

Landon stared at the signature on the check, deep in thought. โ€˜Daniel Zuckerberg, the Helodia license plate. Could it be the Zuckerberg family! remember?โ€™

Because of the awkwardness just now, Amelia stopped her massage and obediently sat to the side, even fastening her seatbelt.

Landon glanced at her and offered a faint smile.

The journey from Noraya to Pinecrest took five hours, and they arrived in the evening.

After checking into the hotel, Amelia was eager to visit Kea Lane, the place where Debra had lived.

โ€˜Itโ€™s too late. Weโ€™ll go tomorrow. Come over and give me a massage first,โ€™ Landon said. After sitting in the wheelchair for five hours, his body felt stiff and uncomfortable. He lay on the bed, desperately needing a massage to relax.

โ€œShould we continue?โ€ Amelia recalled the embarrassing scene in the car, and her ears turned red.

โ€˜Come here.โ€™ Landon closed his eyes, thinking, โ€˜My sense of touch is becoming more sensitive, and my desire to move around is becoming stronger, so my recovery must be near, right?โ€™

Amelia pouted unhappily, giving a very half-hearted massage.

Landon was dissatisfied. โ€˜Whatโ€™s wrong? Donโ€™t you want your salary for today?โ€™

โ€œI do, butโ€ฆโ€ Amelia bit her lip, unwillingness written all over her face. โ€œI still want to go to Kea Lane.โ€

Landon pointed outside. โ€˜The sun is about to set.โ€™

โ€œI know, but this is Pinecrest. No one knows us here, so there wonโ€™t be any danger,โ€ Amelia insisted.

โ€˜No way.โ€™ Landon was too tired and just wanted to fall asleep during the massage, not wanting to go out.

Amelia pleaded, โ€œIโ€™ll just take a quick look. Iโ€™ll be back in an hour.โ€

โ€˜Amelia, do you not understand what Iโ€™m saying?โ€™ said Landon.

โ€œWhat? You agreed? Thank you.โ€ Amelia immediately stood up, grabbed her small bag, and dashed out. Her misty blue dress fluttered as she ran, her receding figure resembling a joyful butterfly.

Landon thought helplessly, โ€˜I didnโ€™t agree at all. She is trying to outsmart me. Unfortunately, going there will only bring her more sadness. Kea Lane is no longer the same. The house where Debra lived has long been demolished and replaced by a cafรฉ. Even I canโ€™t find any trace of Debraโ€™s life here, let alone her. This trip was just meant to help her let go.โ€

Amelia arrived at Kea Lane, according to the navigation, where tall buildings crowded the skyline, and traffic was bustling. She stood on the street in a daze, feeling lost.

Diana had said that Debra used to live in a bungalow, but there were no bungalows left anymore.

โ€˜So I canโ€™t find even a trace of my mother?โ€™ Amelia thought sadly, on the verge of tears.

โ€œMrs. Kingsley.โ€ A familiar voice called to her gently.

Amelia looked up and saw the man she had encountered at the service area earlier, Daniel. He walked toward her in the fading light of the sunset, handsome with a noble aura, looking like a deity.

Amelia quickly wiped her tears and forced a smile. โ€œHello, Mr. Zuckerberg.โ€

โ€œWhy are you crying?โ€ Daniel asked, looking at Amelia, whose eyes were red but still trying to maintain a smile. He found it amusing, thinking, โ€˜The wife of Noravaโ€™s richest man is such an adorable young lady. The Kingsley familyโ€™s taste is quite impressive.โ€

โ€œI was just a little sentimental,โ€ Amelia replied, her smile turning even more bitter. She almost cried out. After living a second life, she knew how things would happen and had rarely shed tears over her past experiences.

But tonight, standing in the place where Debra once lived, Amelia found no trace of Debraโ€™s existence, and she longed to cry her heart out.

Amelia thought, โ€˜No wonder Walter and Melissa wouldnโ€™t tell me where my motherโ€™s grave was, even facing going to prison. They already knew this place had changed beyond recognition, and I wouldnโ€™t be able to find it. That means I have to go to them for answers.โ€™

โ€œAre you lost?โ€ Daniel asked gently, like a caring older brother.

Amelia felt unable to build a wall against him as she choked out, โ€œYes, I canโ€™t find my childhood home.โ€

โ€œYou used to live here?โ€ Danielโ€™s eyes brightened suddenly. โ€œDo you remember the people here? There was a beautiful woman from out of town!โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t remember. I donโ€™t remember anything.โ€ The bitterness in Ameliaโ€™s heart turned into tears and fell down her cheeks. โ€œI donโ€™t even remember my own mother.โ€

Covering her face, she crouched down, and her sobs turned into heartโ€“wrenching cries.

Daniel never expected his question would make Amelia so upset. He felt guilty and crouched down beside her, softly coaxing, โ€œIs there anything I can do for you? Iโ€™m very good at finding people.โ€ Although he himself had never found the person he was looking for.

โ€œNo, no one can help me,โ€ Amelia sobbed into the evening breeze. โ€œMy mother passed away over ten years ago."

Daniel frowned slightly, โ€œIโ€™m sorry. Iโ€ฆโ€

โ€œIt has nothing to do with you.โ€ Amelia looked up, her face streaked with tears. โ€œThank you for keeping me company. Otherwise, I would be too miserable to be here alone.โ€

Daniel chuckled softly, taking a fresh look at Amelia, thinking, โ€˜She is dignified and beautiful, exuding an excellent upbringing. She must come from a wealthy family, so she could marry Landon. But how could Landon allow her to wander alone on the street crying?โ€

โ€œBy the way, are you also here looking for someone?โ€ Amelia asked, wiping her tears.

Daniel nodded. โ€œIโ€™m also here looking for my mother, too.โ€
