Chapter 82
The violent impact caused the car to shake violently, and Amelia lost her balance, falling into Landonโs waist with her face down.
Landon gasped in surprise and quickly lifted Amelia up with his left hand.
โIโI didnโt mean to,โ Amelia said, lowering her head. Her face visibly turned red.
โMrs. Kingsley, are you okay?โ Aaron hurriedly changed from calling โMr. Kingsleyโ to โMrs. Kingsleyโ and checked the condition inside the car. As the identity of the perpetrator, Aaron couldnโt let anyone know Landon was in the car.
โWeโre fine.โ Amelia quickly got out of the car and closed the door behind her. The mountain breeze brushed, and the blush on her face faded somewhat.
Aaron looked at Ameliaโs flushed face and asked in surprise, โYourโฆโ
โBecause I was scared.โ Amelia tried to appear calm, but she couldnโt hide her shyness.
Aaron suddenly realized, โThey were doing intimate things in the car. Although Mr. Kingsley couldnโt fully move his body, his desires knew no bounds. His recovery must be near.โ
โIโm sorry. Did I hurt you?โ A man stepped out of the Rolls-Royce, tall and elegantly dressed. He had a noble aura and was polite, making him quite a sight.
Aaron glanced at the license plate and let out a sigh of relief. โItโs from Helodia city, so he seems unrelated to Henry.โ
โWeโre fine, but the car needs repairs,โ Aaron said.
The man smiled and handed over a check. โIโm sorry, but I have urgent matters and canโt delay. Hereโs the cost of the repairs.โ
โGoodness, three hundred thousand dollars. Thatโs enough to buy a luxury car. He really is generous,โ Amelia thought and couldnโt help but glance at the man again.
The man also happened to look at Amelia. โMiss, you look familiar. Have we met before?โ
โNo,โ Amelia replied, feeling a bit awkward. She thought, โThis pickup line is so clichรฉ.โ
Aaron sensed the manโs intention as he said, โThis is Mrs. Kingsley.โ
โOh, Mrs. Kingsley, nice to meet you.โ The man immediately changed his address, displaying gentlemanly manners in every gesture.
Aaron added, โThe Kingsley family doesnโt extort people. You can just give 15 thousand dollars for the repair costs.โ
โAlright.โ The man rewrote the check.
Aaron took it, and the two vehicles parted ways.
Landonโs car was only slightly dented at the rear, so there was no need to change cars.
Landon stared at the signature on the check, deep in thought. โDaniel Zuckerberg, the Helodia license plate. Could it be the Zuckerberg family! remember?โ
Because of the awkwardness just now, Amelia stopped her massage and obediently sat to the side, even fastening her seatbelt.
Landon glanced at her and offered a faint smile.
The journey from Noraya to Pinecrest took five hours, and they arrived in the evening.
After checking into the hotel, Amelia was eager to visit Kea Lane, the place where Debra had lived.
โItโs too late. Weโll go tomorrow. Come over and give me a massage first,โ Landon said. After sitting in the wheelchair for five hours, his body felt stiff and uncomfortable. He lay on the bed, desperately needing a massage to relax.
โShould we continue?โ Amelia recalled the embarrassing scene in the car, and her ears turned red.
โCome here.โ Landon closed his eyes, thinking, โMy sense of touch is becoming more sensitive, and my desire to move around is becoming stronger, so my recovery must be near, right?โ
Amelia pouted unhappily, giving a very half-hearted massage.
Landon was dissatisfied. โWhatโs wrong? Donโt you want your salary for today?โ
โI do, butโฆโ Amelia bit her lip, unwillingness written all over her face. โI still want to go to Kea Lane.โ
Landon pointed outside. โThe sun is about to set.โ
โI know, but this is Pinecrest. No one knows us here, so there wonโt be any danger,โ Amelia insisted.
โNo way.โ Landon was too tired and just wanted to fall asleep during the massage, not wanting to go out.
Amelia pleaded, โIโll just take a quick look. Iโll be back in an hour.โ
โAmelia, do you not understand what Iโm saying?โ said Landon.
โWhat? You agreed? Thank you.โ Amelia immediately stood up, grabbed her small bag, and dashed out. Her misty blue dress fluttered as she ran, her receding figure resembling a joyful butterfly.
Landon thought helplessly, โI didnโt agree at all. She is trying to outsmart me. Unfortunately, going there will only bring her more sadness. Kea Lane is no longer the same. The house where Debra lived has long been demolished and replaced by a cafรฉ. Even I canโt find any trace of Debraโs life here, let alone her. This trip was just meant to help her let go.โ
Amelia arrived at Kea Lane, according to the navigation, where tall buildings crowded the skyline, and traffic was bustling. She stood on the street in a daze, feeling lost.
Diana had said that Debra used to live in a bungalow, but there were no bungalows left anymore.
โSo I canโt find even a trace of my mother?โ Amelia thought sadly, on the verge of tears.
โMrs. Kingsley.โ A familiar voice called to her gently.
Amelia looked up and saw the man she had encountered at the service area earlier, Daniel. He walked toward her in the fading light of the sunset, handsome with a noble aura, looking like a deity.
Amelia quickly wiped her tears and forced a smile. โHello, Mr. Zuckerberg.โ
โWhy are you crying?โ Daniel asked, looking at Amelia, whose eyes were red but still trying to maintain a smile. He found it amusing, thinking, โThe wife of Noravaโs richest man is such an adorable young lady. The Kingsley familyโs taste is quite impressive.โ
โI was just a little sentimental,โ Amelia replied, her smile turning even more bitter. She almost cried out. After living a second life, she knew how things would happen and had rarely shed tears over her past experiences.
But tonight, standing in the place where Debra once lived, Amelia found no trace of Debraโs existence, and she longed to cry her heart out.
Amelia thought, โNo wonder Walter and Melissa wouldnโt tell me where my motherโs grave was, even facing going to prison. They already knew this place had changed beyond recognition, and I wouldnโt be able to find it. That means I have to go to them for answers.โ
โAre you lost?โ Daniel asked gently, like a caring older brother.
Amelia felt unable to build a wall against him as she choked out, โYes, I canโt find my childhood home.โ
โYou used to live here?โ Danielโs eyes brightened suddenly. โDo you remember the people here? There was a beautiful woman from out of town!โ
โI donโt remember. I donโt remember anything.โ The bitterness in Ameliaโs heart turned into tears and fell down her cheeks. โI donโt even remember my own mother.โ
Covering her face, she crouched down, and her sobs turned into heartโwrenching cries.
Daniel never expected his question would make Amelia so upset. He felt guilty and crouched down beside her, softly coaxing, โIs there anything I can do for you? Iโm very good at finding people.โ Although he himself had never found the person he was looking for.
โNo, no one can help me,โ Amelia sobbed into the evening breeze. โMy mother passed away over ten years ago."
Daniel frowned slightly, โIโm sorry. Iโฆโ
โIt has nothing to do with you.โ Amelia looked up, her face streaked with tears. โThank you for keeping me company. Otherwise, I would be too miserable to be here alone.โ
Daniel chuckled softly, taking a fresh look at Amelia, thinking, โShe is dignified and beautiful, exuding an excellent upbringing. She must come from a wealthy family, so she could marry Landon. But how could Landon allow her to wander alone on the street crying?โ
โBy the way, are you also here looking for someone?โ Amelia asked, wiping her tears.
Daniel nodded. โIโm also here looking for my mother, too.โ
