Missy

As I heard Maddox approaching Lea's door instead of mine, a figure appeared at my window. The glass shattered, and the bars were pulled out; a man's face replaced them. A man, who looked no older than myself, crawled through the window as I retreated, pressing my back against the wall to put as much distance as possible between us. This was no rescuer. Once inside, he grinned.

“Warwick won’t need you anymore. I can do whatever I want to you now,” he said, licking his lips and rubbing his hands together.

“Get away from me,” I said, my voice wavering.

“What’s going on in there?” Maddox called, his voice linking with mine.

“Just get my mom out of there!”

“Is someone in there with you?” he asked, his voice sharper than I'd ever heard it.

The vampire moved across the room with terrifying speed. He grabbed me by the throat, slamming me against the door.

“What is going on in there?!” Maddox roared from outside.

“Get my mom!” I yelled, my words choked by his grip. “Don’t worry about me. Get her out!”

“NO! Help Missy!” Lea screamed from her cell.

“I’m here!” Liam yelled from outside the door.

“Get Missy first!” Lea screamed again, her voice hoarse. A cry of pain followed, then silence. I could hear Maddox arguing with Liam, but couldn't make out their words. My focus was on the vampire, who was still choking me, and desperately trying to loosen his grip.

“Maybe if you’re a good girl, I’ll keep you as a pet,” the vampire said, his grin widening as he leered at me. “A nice collar would suit you well, and I can pass you around the barracks to boost morale.”

A cold chill ran down my spine at the thought of becoming their slave. Nausea rose in my throat, and my knees buckled. Only his grip kept me upright. His free hand brushed my cheek, then slowly trailed down my body as he leaned in, licking from my neck to my ear.

“Should I name my new pet, or do you want me to just call you my bitch?” he whispered, his voice cold and menacing.

“Fuck you,” I gasped through gritted teeth, my vision blurring. I regretted stopping Liam and my training. Then I remembered. I brought both hands above my head, clasped them together, and brought them down hard on the vampire's elbow joint. It bent, loosening his grip, and I could finally breathe. I’d always dismissed the playful fights with Maddox during our training runs as innocent, but now I realized he’d been preparing me. He'd pin me down until I was frustrated, then show me how to escape.

Turning from the wall, I threw myself at the floor, holding onto the vampire's arm. I planted a foot on each of his hips, and as my butt hit the ground, I kicked him over me. He skidded across the room, crashing into the wall—Maddox called it a suicide throw. I stood up, massaging my throat, still gasping for air.

“I’m…not…anyone’s…pet. I am Missy Blackfur, daughter of the Alpha of Blood Eclipse!” I wouldn't be a victim, not for this monster. My wolf howled, desperate to be unleashed. She wanted to tear him apart.

“Okay, Holland; he’s all yours.”

Maddox

The sounds from Missy's cell ceased, and my wolf thrashed, desperate to reach her. I heard voices, then a loud thud as something hit the wall, followed by a wolf's growl.

“She shifted. I need to get in there!” I thought, frantically trying to get to her, barely registering the Alpha's arguments about who to rescue first. When he heard Missy shift, he looked at Luna's cell and yelled, “Azalea, I have to get Missy first. I’m coming for you; please hold on!”

The Alpha began pounding the door with powerful punches. Unlike my attempts, the door buckled with each blow. As we heard more snarling and fighting inside, I kicked above the lock, trying to force the door from its frame. It began to splinter as my anger grew.

BOOM!

The door shattered, sending us sprawling. We looked up, mouths agape. I'd expected Missy to be in trouble, but she was covered in blood—not her own. A vampire was backed into a corner, desperately trying to fend her off, but she relentlessly attacked him. Wounds marred his arms and leg; part of his left hand was missing. He looked at us, terror etched on his face, then darted towards the window, seeking escape.

“Maddox! I can’t finish him. He’s too fast,” she linked, her voice no longer scared, but determined. It was probably inappropriate, but hearing her so confident was incredibly arousing.

“Let me have him,” I said, eager to end the creature's torment of my mate.

Missy paused her attack, assessing her opponent. He bolted for the window. As he climbed out, she grabbed his leg, sinking her teeth deep into the muscle. He screamed, turning to attack her. She whipped her head away, releasing her grip. The vampire was flung towards the Alpha and me.

“All yours,” she said, turning to me. Her obsidian fur gleamed in the moonlight streaming through the broken window.

Tom burst through, and I shifted mid-air, leaping to confront the creature who'd dared to touch my mate. My teeth found his neck; I ripped his head back in the opposite direction Missy had thrown him. His head smashed into the wall, blood spattering the ceiling. I landed before Missy, shifting back and wrapping my arms around her, instinctively protecting her. Her soft, blood-soaked fur—now soft, snowy skin—melted into me as she nestled against me, clinging to me in a way that made me want to shield her from the world. The contact sent a ripple of pleasure through me.

“Get her out of here!” the Alpha bellowed, running from Missy’s cell to Luna’s.

“You need to help my mom, Maddox,” Missy said, her eyes fierce.

“I have to let the Alpha help your mom; you’re my priority right now. He gave me an order, so…” I shrugged and picked her up. I couldn’t let her argue; it was too dangerous.

“I can walk!” she yelled indignantly.

“But you won’t, and you know it!” I said, hurrying from the room. As I sprinted down the hallway, I nearly collided with a group of wolves.

“Where is the Alpha?” one asked.

“He’s back that way,” I said, pointing. “He sent me to get Missy. I need to get her to Doctor Ron.”

“Is she okay?” he asked, concern evident as he saw her, naked and unhappy.

“I’m fine! Let me down!” Missy yelled, hitting me.

“Split up,” he said. “You three go with Maddox.”

“Thank you,” I said, grateful for the help. The wolves separated; three ran ahead, leading the way. Luna’s scream pierced the quiet; the other wolves darted towards her.

Luckily, few vampires blocked our escape; the wolves quickly dispatched them. Once outside, the fighting raged, but the wolves were winning.

“I have the Alpha’s daughter!” I linked to my pack. “Help me clear a path!” Without reply, the wolves attacked with renewed ferocity, driving the vampires back.

“We can only hold them for so long; get her out of here!” Sean bellowed. As soon as I heard the command, I sprinted. The grounds blurred; soon I was through the trees, laying Missy on Doctor Ron's prepared table. Someone shoved a blanket at me; I covered Missy; her clothes were torn.

Liam

I ordered Maddox to get Missy to safety and ran to Azalea's cell. I didn't spare a thought for the dead vampire.

“Azalea!” I called. She replied with a pained cry. I felt her fear. Gavin was close to snapping. “Hang on,” I told her. I chambered my leg and push-kicked the door above the lock. It almost buckled. Azalea’s whimpers grew louder.

“Liam,” she called weakly. A second blow shattered the door. I smelled blood, Azalea’s blood. She was in the corner, on a dirty blanket; blood stained the ground below her. She was pale, cold sweat on her skin.

“Liam,” she said, squeezing her eyes shut, clutching her stomach. Before she finished, I was by her side. I checked her over.

“Are you hurt?” I asked.

“The baby,” she gasped.

“I need to get you to my uncle, now,” I said. Voices sounded behind me.

“I can’t…” she trailed off. She looked faint. Her tiny frame shook.

“Alpha, we need to move,” a wolf said. There was no time to lose; with Azalea bleeding, the baby needed to be delivered. As gently as possible, I lifted her into my arms.

“I’ll move as gently as possible. Hold on,” I told her, turning toward the doorway. Hurried footsteps—not wolves—approached.

“Alpha, they’re running back inside; get out of there!” Sean called. The sounds grew louder. I turned to the wolves guarding the hallway.

“I want a closed arrowhead formation around Azalea and me; I can’t fight, but I need protection to reach the medical tent.” They nodded, moving into position. Azalea screamed, her hand digging into my arm as a contraction hit her.

“Breathe, baby; I have you. We’re going to Doc; he’ll get the baby out.” I drew her closer, walking sideways, avoiding the doorframe. “I’ll keep you safe.”

“Just help the baby,” she panted, her head falling to my chest.

“Both of you, Azalea. Both,” I growled. I wouldn’t compromise. I'd fight the Moon Goddess if I had to. Everyone shifted as I stepped into the hallway, forming a protective triangle. The rear line was six wolves wide, two rows deep; ten wolves formed the point. This formation protected the Alpha in war. I saw them—vampires flooding the tunnel, some crawling on the ceiling. It was like a horror movie.

“Go!” I bellowed.

We moved, meeting the front line with a collision of growls and snarls; the scent of blood filled the air. The arrowhead formation worked, splitting the vampire group. Vampires falling from the ceiling slowed us; the formation hadn't accounted for that. Gavin raged within me, wanting to protect our mate. Our frustration exploded in a roar. The wolves stopped, as did the vampires; several fell from the ceiling. The ground shook; the wolves seemed strengthened. As we moved again, the vampires seemed less determined. I wondered if Warwick controlled them like an Alpha controls their pack. Extreme violence seemed to break their trance. We moved as one, breaking through like butter. We reached the stairway where Damien and I fought Warwick. Damien was there, fighting vampires. They fell from the second floor into the fray. He was covered in blood, and I wondered if it was just Warwick's.

“GO!” Damien yelled. “Get her out of here!”

“I’ll come back for you,” I told him.

Our formation was thinned, but we closed ranks, pushing to the porch, then outside. The outside wolves held off the vampires, letting us through.

“Finish them,” I linked. “Don’t leave any alive.”

I smelled Missy, Maddox, and my uncle. I’d made it. Azalea screamed again; Doc ran towards us. “This way,” he called, running beside me, checking Azalea. He looked at my arm, coated in her blood.

“What?” I growled.

“Is she bleeding?” he asked as Azalea stifled a scream. I nodded.

“Azalea, how long have you been bleeding?” he asked as we reached a tent. Missy held the flap open; I went inside.

“Arghhhhh,” Azalea cried, eyes squeezed shut.

“Place her on the table!” my uncle instructed. He sterilized his hands. I gently laid Azalea on the table; her weak hand squeezed my arm.

“Liam,” she whined. “Liam, I can’t feel it.”
