Chapter 35

"Mom, maybe Lauren was afraid of her teachers criticizing her at college," Sally comforted Mrs. Bennett patiently. Mrs. Bennett nodded in agreement. She thought Sally was right. Lauren must care deeply about her studies to secure a bright future.

Understanding this, Mrs. Bennett decided to call Lauren's teacher. The teacher, about to take a break, received a strange call.

"Hello?"

"Hi. This is Lauren Bennett's mother."

"Lauren's mother?" The teacher was surprised. She knew Lauren was an orphan raised by an elderly man. She couldn't understand why Lauren's mother was calling.

Worrying something was wrong, the teacher nervously asked, "Is something wrong with Lauren? What happened?"

"Lauren is alright," Mrs. Bennett said, shaking her head. "I just want to talk to you about Lauren."

Relieved, the teacher said, "Okay, what do you want to know about Lauren?"

Mrs. Bennett explained that she wanted the teacher to reduce Lauren's workload and find someone to replace her.

The teacher was silent for a long time.

Mrs. Bennett continued, "Lauren is my daughter, and I don't want her to be so tired. She doesn't need to work so hard; she just needs to stay home."

"What are you talking about?" The teacher was shocked. After a long pause, she said, "Do you know about Lauren's research?"

Mrs. Bennett didn't care about the research; she just didn't want Lauren to be tired. "Even if it's a great research project, Lauren isn't the main contributor," she said. "Her mentor is the core leader."

Mrs. Bennett ended the call abruptly, saying, "Don't tire Lauren out."

The teacher hung up, stunned. Another teacher approached, bringing her back to reality.

"What's wrong?"

Lauren's teacher slowly turned, saying, "It's unbelievable. Lauren's mother just called and asked me to replace her on a research project. Lauren is the team leader! How could her mother say that?"

"You mean Lauren Bennett? The girl who received the National Youth Science Fund?" the other teacher asked.

Lauren's teacher nodded. Lauren was known as a promising genius. Her mother's request seemed incredibly ignorant or arrogant.

Note: "His Secret Millionairess Wife" appears to be a title unrelated to the passage and has been removed. The pronoun "he" referring to the teacher was also corrected to "she" for consistency.
