Chapter 37
This was the only thing he could do to prevent himself from Bob's fists. However, Bob ultimately refrained from hitting him; Darren only heard Bob sneer. Darren raised his head and looked at Bob, who sat on the table, supporting his arm with a cue and staring intently at Darren.
Darren had never seen Bob behave like this before. In Darren's mind, Bob had always been arrogant and never looked this way. Bob was unusually calm, and there was even a trace of jealousy in his eyes.
"What is he jealous of? Is he jealous of me?" Darren thought in surprise. He suddenly wanted to laugh, unable to understand why anyone would be jealous of him.
"You can leave now," Bob said, nodding his chin.
But Darren didn't move.
"What's wrong with you?" Bob sneered. "Do you still want to stay here? Do you want me to beat you?"
Darren looked at Bob seriously and asked, "Why are you letting me go?" He didn't believe Bob was being kind; he thought Bob was simply trying to scare him.
They were children of powerful families, and Darren knew Bob wouldn't seriously injure him. Their parents would ultimately resolve any conflict.
It was the perfect opportunity for Bob to beat Darren, yet he didn't, which confused Darren.
"Why didn't you beat me?" Darren asked again.
This obviously irritated Bob. He threw the billiard cue, stepped forward, and grabbed Darren's collar. Bob clenched his fist, wanting to punch Darren hard, but he controlled himself.
Seeing this, Darren was even more confused.
"You're just lucky!" Bob released Darren, his voice laced with anger and jealousy.
"What did Bob mean?" Darren frowned, pondering. They were both from wealthy families, accustomed to getting their way. Why did Bob say Darren was lucky? Darren was thoroughly baffled.
Bob didn't want to talk to Darren anymore. He took a small, simple wooden box from his pocket, tossed it to Darren, and said, "Take it. This is good for your health."
Darren's confusion deepened.
"Lauren told me to give this to you," Bob said, his eyes red. He had followed Lauren for years, even choosing to study medicine for her, but she remained cold and indifferent.
"Why is Lauren so kind to Darren? Is it because he's her brother? Why does he get so much attention from her?" Bob thought, consumed by anger, sadness, and jealousy.
"You'd better have a blood test," Bob said angrily. "Lauren said that since childhood, you were given medication that made you easily irritable. She wasn't sure if there's a cure, and she told you to control your temper."
Darren was confused, unsure if what Bob said was true. How could Bob know Lauren?
"Remember to have a blood test. She said you have something in your blood, but I can't remember what it was," Bob said, taking a note with a molecular formula from his pocket and tossing it over. "It's this."
After speaking, he left with his group, leaving Darren alone to examine the note.
"This is what Lauren wanted to say to me?" Darren thought. From childhood to adulthood, he'd faced constant preaching and scolding, so Lauren's unexpected care surprised him.
