Chapter 54

Three people were talking, but a girl in the back seat remained silent, almost invisible. This wasn't unusual; she was usually quiet. However, when Dana called Lauren "greedy," the girl looked up, frowning. Impatient and clearly unhappy, she tapped twice on the window with her index finger, saying, "That's Herman Shaw's car."

Silence fell over the car.

"Lisa Walter, are you sure?" Dana asked, shocked. "How could that be Herman Shaw's car?"

Lisa, though expressionless, replied coldly, "You can check the license plate. It clearly shows he's the owner. You were too busy sneering at Lauren to notice."

If not for their long friendship, Lisa would have left. They were all in their twenties, yet acted like children. They couldn't contribute to the family business, yet couldn't even recognize Herman Shaw's car. This bothered Lisa.

Herman Shaw, a non-local, was a significant figure. Not a famous CEO, but a powerful professional manager at MY Company. His influential family commanded respect; offending him was unthinkable.

He kept a low profile, but the city's elite knew he was there. Their families warned their younger members to avoid antagonizing him. Despite his low-key demeanor, no one forgot his family's power.

Unlike most of the Shaw family, who were involved in politics, education, industry, and commerce, Herman was different. His father was rumored to be a presidential candidate.

As a child, Herman followed his family's plan, excelling academically and gaining admission to a prestigious university. Politics seemed his likely path; his future shone brightly.

Tragedy struck at age 22. A severe car accident left him paralyzed. Lisa knew little of the details, but she heard that after six months, the Shaw family found a reclusive doctor who cured his leg.
