Chapter 1009

After staring at Hannah for a while, Heather's eyes softened. She raised her hand and patted Hannah's shoulder lightly. "Alright, youโ€”" Before she could finish, a maid entered.

"Ms. Heather, there's a visitor. His surname is Russell."

"Russell..."

Heather looked up after a moment and saw Hannah's eyes brighten. It was fleeting, but she saw it. Hannah did fall in love. Her thoughts shifted.

"Go back to your room. Don't come out without my order!"

This was expected; Hannah pursed her lips. "Okay!"

She turned and walked toward the basement, disappearing around the corner. However, she paused, turning back. Is it him? Let him in!

Heather wondered if it was Ralph or Alexander. She sat down, summoning someone to clear the table and brew tea. When the tea arrived, Alexander entered. Seeing him, Heather felt a pang of disappointment.

"So, it's you," she said, glancing toward the basement corner. Though she couldn't see anyone, she sensed Hannah's presence.

"Ms. Riggs," Alexander announced.

Still in the shadows, Hannah recoiled, cautiously peeking out. Seeing a stranger, not Ralph, her eyes dimmed, and she retreated silently.

Sensing Hannah's withdrawal, Heather's lips curled into a smile as she looked at Alexander. "What's your purpose, Mr. Russell?"

"Ms. Riggs, I'm here to give you a wedding gift." Alexander smiled slightly, holding a square wooden box.

Heather's eyes narrowed. "You didn't have to."

"I should!" He offered the box.

Heather didn't take it, instead subtly gesturing for the maid to accept it. The maid complied; Alexander didn't object, handing the box over with a smile. "With your skills, why so cautious?"

"Caution is always wise. Given our identities, I think you understand." Heather offered a slight, insincere smile.

"Why don't you open it? Perhaps it's something you want," Alexander continued.

Heather scrutinized him, her lips curling. "How do you know what I want?"
