Chapter 1056

It was unclear whether she was considered lucky afterward, but after avoiding several crises, she seemed finally able to live a normal life. However, from that day on, she lost herself, becoming merely a shadow of her elder sister, Heather. Heather appeared only when necessary; otherwise, she was nowhere to be found.

Hannah was content, at least finding peace and stability. The island's limited scope constrained her, but the effect was minimal. Yet, she remained unsatisfied. As she grew older and encountered more people and places, her yearning intensified. She longed to dance in the streets, fall in love, enjoy sweets without fear of gaining weightโ€”things she couldn't do. If Heather couldn't, neither could Hannah; she was merely Heather's puppet.

"It's just a curse, probably a legend. No one knows if it's true. Will it ruin my life because of that?" she whispered, her heart unconvinced.

"There's no room for entitlement! These are lessons from our mother. Don't you understand? This is the Riggs family's life. You're alive, standing here, complaining about your ruined life. But you're only here because I let you be my shadow, so thank me for that!" Heather retorted coldly.

Only one sister could remainโ€”the stronger one. Even in her youth, Heather felt Hannah should be grateful for her life. Without Heather, Hannah would likely be dead. Heather was, to an extent, her savior. Hannah should be grateful, and Heather could take her life at any time.

Yet, Hannah dared to speak of fairness and selfhood? What a ridiculous fool!

Heather's words struck Hannah like a wake-up call. Yes, her parents and Heather firmly believed in the legend from childhood. She'd never faced a true life-or-death choice; she'd always been the privileged, arrogant daughter.

How could she know pain? The fear of death's shadow? She couldn't understand, let alone sympathize.

Hannah, reconsidering, surrendered to her fate. Lowering her head slightly, she said, "I was wrong."

Heather raised an eyebrow.

"Yes, you're right. I forgot my duty. I shouldn't ask for too much. It's a gift from you that I'm even alive. I shouldn't ask for more!" she said softly.
