Chapter 1062
Ralph had already figured it out. "Mom, I've thought about this. You don't need to do much. The book is probably in Alexander's house. Heather tried to inquire, but the house is heavily securedโit's not simple. Why would his house be so fortified unless it contained something valuable?"
He looked around, adding, "Our old house had ordinary security. His is in the city's best neighborhood. He's hiding something." Ralph was so convinced Alexander had hidden the secret in his house that he felt certain of it. However, he hadn't considered Alexander's history of childhood dangers and kidnappings. His defensive measures, while seemingly excessive to outsiders, were essential for his family.
Having confirmed his suspicions, he didn't want to dwell on it further.
"You mean, go search his house?" Margaret exclaimed, waving her hands. "No! No, I can't! Remember how they disrespected me last time? They wouldn't let me in. It's embarrassing to beg someone younger!"
The memory angered her. She'd been mistreated as an elder, Lily especially showing a lack of respect. Margaret refused to return.
"Mom, I didn't say you had to go. I could go, but it's difficult if they're home."
Rubbing her hands, Margaret grasped his meaning. "You want me to lure them out?"
"Mom, you're brilliant!" Ralph kissed her cheek.
Margaret wiped her face, glaring. "You're talking nonsense! Why do you think they'd listen to me? I couldn't even meet them!"
"It's simple. Aren't they getting married soon? As an elder, you should give a gift. Invite them to choose it; I doubt they'll refuse. It would be rude." Ralph had a plan.
Margaret bristled. "Give them a gift? They didn't give me anything, and now I have to give them a gift? How could you suggest such a ridiculous plan?"
Ralph coaxed her gently. "Mom, it's for our future. It's tough, but think about it. Once I take over the family, you can deal with them however you like. They won't dare disrespect you then."
