Chapter 1158
Lily was speechless. Unable to refuse, she allowed Margaret to take her hand and place the ring on her finger. Her fingers being slender, the older woman slipped it onto her thumb, where it fit perfectly. Margaret chuckled. "I've heard some heads of families and royalty wore thumb rings in the old days. You're simply meant to wear it this way."
"Thank you, Grandma," Lily whispered, feeling the ring's weight.
Ralph awoke from a deep sleep feeling more energetic. However, the apartment's emptiness was stark; there was nothing to eat, and he lacked cooking utensils. His only option was takeout. Fortunately, Hannah had left him enough money to order food and drinks online. While reviewing the transferred funds, he found it ironic that he would one day rely on a woman's money. Accustomed to a life of extravagance, he had always charged expenses, often having others pay for him. Though not the head of the Russell family, he was Alexander's uncle. But nowโฆ
"Damn you, Sean Miler! How dare you beat me? I'll rip your limbs off when I make a comeback! But can I even make a comeback?" The glow in his eyes dimmed as he considered this. He moodily kicked over a nearby stool, rose, and approached the window, gazing down at the street below. It was a pleasant neighborhood, but a far cry from his former residence; the entire apartment was smaller than his old bathroom.
"It's all Alex and Mom's fault I'm in this state! Mom is heartless! Would they be so ruthless as to seize all my assets?" He pondered this as he attempted to order takeout online. He successfully used his credit card to pay, a small victory that almost brought him to joyous tears. It meant his card hadn't been frozen; he could still use it.
He speculated that they either hadn't considered freezing his card or were employing other methods of sabotage. For now, he didn't care. He ordered a significant amount of goods for delivery to the apartment.
"These will be my gifts to Annie, to repay her for everything. The place will look less empty with all this stuff. She'll be surprised when she arrives, since she won't let me contact her." With his orders arriving one by one, the apartment quickly filled.
Standing amidst the deliveries, he felt the space was too cramped and wondered if he could still access his properties, given his credit card still functioned.
"Perhaps they haven't changed the keys yet?" He couldn't wait to find out, and immediately set off to check.
"If I can still access those properties, doesn't it mean Mom couldn't bear to part with me, and I might still have a place in the family?" He racked his brain, recalling a fully digitized villa not far from the apartment. He only needed the passcode to enter, and he left immediately to test his theory.
