When Hannah heard this, her anger vanished. Instead, she said casually, "Who do you take me for? As long as you have me in your heart, there's nothing to be sorry for!" She leaned into his arms.

Despite the beautiful woman nestled against him, Ralph’s mind raced. He worried about Alexander's search. Was burning his own house illegal? Would Alexander reclaiming his properties be considered arson? Hannah sensed his distraction and was slightly unhappy, but his confession intrigued her.

"Why would you go to jail? You didn't break any laws," she asked.

"I..." Ralph hesitated, licking his dry lips. "I burned down my house yesterday."

"You burnt down your own house?!" She looked up, surprised and bewildered. "Why? Do you mean the Russell Estate?"

"No!" He sighed.

They sat on the sofa, and he recounted yesterday's events, his voice rough with emotion. "I thought my mother would be more lenient because of our…relationship. I didn't expect her to be so ruthless. My anger took over, and I acted impulsively." He buried his face in his hands.

Hannah's reaction, however, wasn't anger. She seemed preoccupied. "Why did you run back? Isn't this place good enough? Didn't I tell you to wait? Why did you sneak away?"

"Of course not!" Ralph looked at her. "I thought I should try to salvage what property remained in my name. That way, we won't suffer in the future. You've lived a tragic life for so long. Now that I have you, I want to plan our future together. I can't promise endless wealth, but I can still provide if I keep my property and money." He sighed heavily. It was too late to undo what he'd done.

"I'm so impulsive! I should have begged her for help. That was my plan! Why did my anger win? Now I might even go to jail! I'm not worried about myself, but what about you?!"

Hannah was moved. She gently opened his hands and turned his face to hers. "Look at me! You won't go to jail! It's just a house! There's no law against burning your own house! Besides, we can solve anything with money. I'll help you. I'm here, and from now on, what's mine is yours, and what's yours is mine."
