Chapter 1240

Lily brought a spoon to her lips, a faint smile playing on them. "Ms. Rollins, I'd like to know who told you my dress is with me?"

Anastasia frowned. "That's none of your concern! If you took it, admit it!" She snorted. "I thought you were powerful and prestigious, relying on your husband's family wealth. Who knew you'd be such a coward?"

Lily remained unperturbed by the ridicule, even offering a light smile. Setting down her spoon, she looked at the girl across from her. Though only a few years younger, Anastasia seemed like a little chubby girl to Lily.

"Ms. Rollins, I also thought you were smart enough not to be a pawn in someone else's game."

Anastasia narrowed her eyes. "What do you mean?"

"I assume the salesgirl told you I insisted on buying your dress. That I was trying to pick a fight, is that right, Ms. Rollins?" Anastasia's reaction confirmed Lily's suspicion.

Anastasia remained silent, on guard.

"Ms. Rollins, did you ever wonder why the salesgirl showed me the dress after you'd ordered it? Why didn't they hold it for you?" Lily sipped her milk calmly. "I did buy a dress, but the salesgirl recommended it to me."

Anastasia understood. While not uncommon, it was still upsetting. Even if the salesgirl was at fault, Lily had insisted on buying the dress Anastasia had reservedโ€”a disrespectful act.

Anastasia's face fell. "So, you knew it was mine."

"Ms. Rollins, I went to a boutique and bought a dress the staff recommended. Do you understand?" Lily sighed. The waiter arrived with Anastasia's lemonade. "Another blueberry mousse, please," Lily ordered.

She glanced at Anastasia, who was licking her lips, still fixated on the issue. "You're quibbling! You bought it knowing I'd reserved it! On purpose!" This girl seems to have some issues, Lily mused.

Prepared for this, Lily decided to end it. She retrieved a beautifully packaged box and placed it on the table.

"Speaking of which, a gift for you, Ms. Rollins." She pushed the box toward Anastasia.

"What is it?!" Anastasia eyed the box warily.

"You'll see." Lily gestured. "I hope you like it."

After a moment, Anastasia hesitantly untied the ribbon. Her fingers, unlike her figure, were slender and elegantly manicured, adorned with ribbon remnants. Inside the box was a dressโ€”a light bamboo green dress, identical to the one she'd reserved.

She picked it up, recognizing it immediately. Fury flared. "Isn't this the dress I ordered?! You're returning it as a gift, acting mysterious?!"

Lily shook her head. "I'm afraid you're mistaken, Ms. Rollins. It's not the dress you ordered. Look closer."

Startled, Anastasia examined the dress meticulously.
