Chapter 1257

Alexander didn't want Lily to worry. Pregnant mothers were more vulnerable, and excessive anxiety was detrimental to her health. However, Lily was perceptive; she often understood things without needing explanation.

Sighing, he said, "I'll investigate Mike's situation while you avoid overthinking this. We'll stop the project. I'll withdraw my investment, and you'll leave the team. Let's see how they manage then!"

"But..."

"No buts!" Alexander placed his hands on her shoulders, his firmness unprecedented. He'd always supported her, but this was different.

"This project is dangerous, potentially involving more than you realize. I know you're inquisitive, but this is different. Stay away, alright?"

Lily saw the determination in his eyes. This was the first time he'd been so firm. After a moment, she conceded. "Okay, I'll quit the team!"

Relieved, Alexander hugged her. "I'm not stopping you from doing what you enjoy, but your safety is paramount!"

Lily knew he cared. Still, worry lingered. "Do you think they'll stop if I quit and you withdraw? Aren't you curious about their goals?" Puzzlement clouded her eyes.

Alexander pondered. "They made no progress during your two-month absence. That proves their dependence on you, and their inability to find a replacement."

"They could get other investors," Lily countered.

"True, but replacing you is difficult. Your departure would be a significant blow."

His logic was sound, but Lily doubted her irreplaceability. "What if they find someone?"

"There are many 'what ifs.' I can only ensure your safety," Alexander promised. They'd been through much; he wanted only peace and safety for them and their children. His words warmed her heart, easing her anxieties.

"Okay, I promise I'll quit!" Lily held his hand, thinking, Perhaps I should stop overthinking this.

A hundred miles from Kingsland, a sprawling villa stood on a vast grassland. Its gates remained perpetually closed, giving the impression of abandonment. But this was the residence of Dominic, a respected herbalist. He rarely left; only his maids ventured out for supplies. The villa appeared simple yet held an air of mystery. Opening its gates felt like entering another world.
