Chapter 1305
After some thought, Maria stood and said, "What about this? I'll find him since he won't answer my calls."
Fabian looked surprised. "He won't even answer your calls; are you sure he'll meet you, let alone agree to your request?"
"We can't discuss this over the phone. When we meet, I'll prevent Mr. Austin from leaving; he'll have no choice but to listen. I heard he's busy at the institute's lab, but I'll wait if necessary. I have a wonderful gift for himโsomething I'm sure he'll appreciate!" Maria pinched her fingers together, smiling confidently.
"It's all talk now, and you're planning to spend a fortune? Do you think my money grows on trees?" Fabian was displeased at the thought of his wife spending money on Austin. His business was struggling, and his brother-in-law, Cameron, had coldly rejected his request for help. This desperation had led him to seek out the miracle doctor to cure Anastasia's illness, hoping to gain Cameron's favor.
However, he was skeptical of Austin, suspecting him of being a conman. Even if legitimate, he doubted Austin could cure Anastasia's illness, a condition that had baffled many doctors over the years. He considered engaging the doctor a waste of money, planning to pay only after a successful cure, even offering more than the agreed fee. Maria disagreed. "How can we get him to help without a substantial upfront payment? He's a miracle doctor, not an ordinary clinic doctor. We must show sincerity!"
"Listen, you must spend the money! If he cures your niece, we'll become even wealthier with your brother-in-law's help!"
Fabian conceded, though he remained doubtful. Miracle doctors, he knew, were often eccentric and conceited. "Then are you sure this will work?"
"Of course! It's hard to find someone untempted by money. You were arrogant and self-righteous once, but now you treat money as the most important thing!"
Fabian felt embarrassed by her example. He scoffed, "Tsk! Why bring that up? Did you have to use me?"
"I'm saying money is everything! These miracle doctors are all after money; they're only arrogant because they aren't offered enough!" Maria said indifferently. "You'll hear good news soon. I'll wait outside the institute; I'm sure to see him!"
Hesitantly, Fabian admitted he had no better plan. "Go ahead. I'll prepare more gifts for Anastasia in the meantime."
"We agreed to get the miracle doctor, didn't we? Why prepare more? You're not this generous to our daughter!" Maria protested at the thought of Fabian preparing additional birthday gifts for his niece.
"We need a backup plan! We're not sure you can get the miracle doctor, or even if he can cure Anastasia. Her birthday's soon; I can't go empty-handed."
Maria, though irritated, saw his point. She gritted her teeth. "I must get the miracle doctor to her party!"
"How dare he hang up on me! I'll bring him here to regain my pride!"
