Chapter 1371
Without waiting for Lily's answer, Dominic grumbled, "That research institute is up to no good, isn't it? What the hell are they doing?"
"No, no, it's not the research institute," Lily said, shaking her head. "It's something I've noticed, but I'm not sure if it would work."
"It's possible, but there are too many uncertainties! We can study how much we absorb from cooked herbs based on generations of experience, but studying absorption through scent is a whole new level of difficulty. Not to mention the interaction between different herbs. It's incredibly tough and risky!" Dominic picked up a glass of water and took a sip. "I wonder what kind of test subjects are needed for an experiment like this?" He paused, looked over his shoulder, and asked, "Monkeys?"
Lily was surprised. "Monkeys are the closest to humans, but we'd only get detectable data; we wouldn't receive feedback on discomfort or pain. It would be even harder with other animals."
Dominic shook his head and drank more water. "How about a human being?"
"If the experiment is successful, the finished product would ultimately be used on humans. I'm talking about during the experiment..." He stopped mid-sentence, staring at Lily, his eyes wide. "You're talking about using a human being as a test subject? A living person?" His voice trembled. "Experimenting on a human being without knowing the effects is like committing murder!" Appalled, he looked at Lily and asked, "What have you discovered?"
"It's just a guess for now; I'm not sure yet," Lily replied. "But after hearing you, I understand it better."
Having received her answer, she stood and prepared to leave. "Oh, yes, the wilford root..."
"What?" Dominic blinked, still reeling from their conversation. He wondered what he had said that she understood.
"You promised it to me, and I'm taking it home next time," Lily chuckled, heading for the door.
"Hey, what promise? Who promised you?" Dominic leaped to his feet, yelling. "And what did I say that made you understand?"
Lily waved without looking back. "Thanks!"
Dominic was bewildered. 'Thank me? What the hell? This little wench always comes and goes without explanation. Doesn't she know I'm old and have limited comprehension? Still, who would be so audacious as to experiment with medicinal herbs on human beings?'
