Chapter 1383
Thompson knew little about perfumery, only that Lily was a leading international figure in the industry for the past two years. Learning of Rheaโs impressive background surprised him. "Rhea, why haven't you mentioned this before?"
"It wasn't worth mentioning," she replied with a casual smile, seemingly unconcerned about her fame. Thompson was speechless.
"So, Professor Thompson, am I qualified to join the project?" Rhea asked, raising her head.
"You're qualified, butโ" Thompson began.
"Has Lily brainwashed you?" Mr. R interrupted impatiently. "You keep making excuses. Let someone else take over if you can't handle it!"
"No, no, I can!" Thompson said hurriedly. "I have no problem with it. I want the experiment to succeed! Rhea, you..."
"Rhea will be in charge of the experiment you've failed to handle," the masked man declared. "In the future, you must listen to her on all matters concerning the experiment."
Thompson was surprised his boss held Rhea in such high regard. Suspecting Mike's involvement, he suspected more than met the eye. Still, he dared not defy his boss and nodded. "Yes, sir!"
"Professor Thompson, I look forward to working with you," Rhea said, extending her hand with a half-smile. Thompson hesitated, then shook her hand.
Austin left the laboratory after another all-night session. He'd made significant progress lately and felt on the verge of success. He was researching essential oils that could briefly induce unconsciousness, similar to an anesthetic. He'd discovered the extraction process was surprisingly simple. The most challenging aspect was creating a scent that masked the medicinal herbs.
If Lily can do it, so can I. I just need to increase the dosage of the raw materials. As for drug stability, who can say for sure? Even edible medicines have variable stability. We must be flexible. Sticking strictly to the book will hinder success.
Feeling brilliant and self-satisfied, Austin washed his face and hummed a tune as he left. As he exited the building, someone rushed past, knocking him off balance. He adjusted his glasses, irritated.
"Who the hell are you? Why are you so clumsy so early in the morning?!"
The person stopped and looked back. Austin was surprised to see who it was. "Oh, Lily, it's you?"
