Chapter 139
"Oh, really?" Jenny emphasized, implying Lily hadn't convinced her in the slightest.
"Yup, that's what happened." Lily took a deep breath and lightly nudged Jenny. "Aww, I missed your cold and arrogant demeanor. I didn't know you were this noisy. Hurry up and take your shower. I'm still waiting for my turn!"
"That's exactly how someone would react when exposed, but it's fine. I won't bicker with a child," Jenny said, waving her hand dismissively before turning toward the bathroom.
Lily rolled her eyes but sighed in relief. She was glad Jenny had let her off easily, but knew she needed to be extra careful next time she saw Alexander.
Thinking of Alexander, Lily checked her phone and saw a text from him: "1808." It was his room number. She smiled, sent him a cute emoji, and then cleaned up the leftovers on the table. After clearing the table, she unpacked her clothes from her luggage. Jenny emerged from the bathroom, hair still wet. "I'm done. It's your turn."
"Okay," Lily said, walking to the bathroom and then turning back. "It's been a long day. You don't have to wait up for me. Just go to bed if you're tired."
"Why would I wait for you? I don't need you to warm my side of the bed!" Jenny joked, drying her hair with a towel. Lily turned and went into the bathroom.
It was almost midnight, and Melanie lay wide awake in bed, thinking about Frank's words. 'Tonight After tonight Ugh, why is the night passing so slowly?' she thought. The agonizing wait was unbearable. She wished for tomorrow to arrive quickly, so she wouldn't have to make her decision. Unfortunately, it felt like a very long night. If she missed this opportunity, she might never get another chance at fame.
Despite trying, Melanie couldn't sleep. She pulled her phone from under her pillow, but there were no texts from Frank. He wasn't rushing her; he knew her too well, her weaknesses and desires. He was patiently waiting, like a predator stalking its prey. Melanie knew it was a trap, but couldn't resist the temptation. After a while, she called Nathaniel. He answered, "Mel? What's wrong?"
"I-I can't sleep," Melanie whispered, biting her lip.
