Chapter 145
Lily tiptoed back to her room. After scanning her access card, she entered and tried to appear calm. "I'm surprised you're back," a sarcastic voice said from behind her as she closed the door, instantly tensing her.
"H-Hey! You're awake?" Lily turned to see Jenny, in pajamas, sitting on the couch, watching her. It seemed Jenny had been waiting. "Did I wake you? Oh, man. I went to throw out the garbage and get breakfast. I'm sorry for waking you." Lily's words flowed smoothly; she'd rehearsed them.
"Wow! Continue with your interesting story. I'm listening," Jenny snorted.
"What story?" Lily blinked innocently. "I'm tired. I woke up too early. I should get more sleep."
She stretched, intending to go to her bedroom, but Jenny quickly stretched out a leg, stopping her. "You think I'll let you escape?"
Lily smiled helplessly. "Escape? What are you talking about? I just want a nap."
"No, you can't. Tell me honestly. Where were you fooling around last night?" Jenny demanded, her tone like she was interrogating a criminal.
Lily pursed her lips, finding Jenny's words hilarious. "Huh? Who would I fool around with? You? You were asleep when I showered last night. I went to bed soon after. I just woke up earlier than you. What do you mean by 'fooling around'? Mind your language."
Lily tried to leave, but Jenny wouldn't let her. "I was awake since 1 a.m., and you were gone. If you slept, what time did you wake up? You're saying you woke up before 1 a.m., went to throw out the garbage, and were doing that until now?"
Lily was speechless. She hadn't known Jenny was awake. 'She didn't tell me she woke up. Did she wait for me all night?'
"You weren't awake all night, were you?" Lily leaned closer, noticing the dark circles under Jenny's eyes. Guilt washed over her.
"Don't change the subject! I waited for you all night, and couldn't reach you because your phone was off. You're amazing, aren't you? I almost called the police! Don't even think about leaving this room until you tell me everything honestly!" Jenny stood blocking the door, leaving Lily speechless.
"Okay, I'll tell you. I woke up at 1 a.m. and went to throw out the garbage because I couldn't sleep. Then, I felt like going for a jog. I got lost and didn't get back until much later. Do you believe me now?" Lily looked at Jenny cautiously, aware her lie was unconvincing. Jenny's dissatisfied expression confirmed it. Lily sighed, giving up on her bedroom. She sat back down on the couch. After a moment, she said, "I went to meet a friend."
"You met a friend?" Jenny approached. "Who? Is this your first time here? Where did this friend come from? Is it a guy or a girl? Why so late?"
Lily found Jenny's barrage of questions amusing. "Jen! Are you interrogating me? It's my fault for hiding this, but it's my private matter, isn't it?"
"I'm not trying to invade your privacy. It's your first business trip with me, and we're in a foreign country. What am I supposed to do if something happens to you? How do I tell your family and the company? I have to look after you here!" Jenny's concern was clear.
