Chapter 1455

Thompson was speechless. "Those things are meaningless," Rhea said nonchalantly. "Could they relieve pain and suffering? If they want freedom from pain, why don't they simply die? They wouldn't feel anything then."

Austin was shocked. As a medical student, he couldn't comprehend her words. How can she be so indifferent to human life? Rhea pushed Thompson aside and approached Austin. "Initially, your presence meant nothing to me," she said, "but since you've become involved, you can't leave. Join us. What do you say?"

Austin saw a different person before him. He had found her adorable, but now she seemed a devil in disguise. "If it harms others, I won't join you. I'm sorry," he declared.

Rhea scoffed. "What a nerd! Who cares about beneficial or harmful? Science and technology must advance! The medical field must improve! All research, from labor-saving inventions to human evolution, requires sacrifices! You've been a doctor for years. Tell me, did you save every patient's life?" She looked him up and down.

"I…" Her question stunned him, but he wouldn't back down. "I couldn't save everyone, but I tried my best! I have no regrets, and I'm not guilty of anything!" That was the essence of being a medical practitioner. They were human, not God; they couldn't dictate life and death.

"Haha! Not guilty?" Rhea sneered. "You sound so virtuous! Then why did you lie about being the miracle doctor's secret apprentice? You're a scammer, and I'm cold-blooded. Neither of us is better than the other, so why preach to me?"

Austin, usually articulate, was speechless. This woman knows how to push buttons! She's even better than Lily. She's right, though. There's no excuse for using Granduncle's name. He'd misled others deliberately and had no defense. Lies were lies. They compromised integrity, making one appear hypocritical.

"Austin…" Thompson stared in shock.

"You're right," Austin admitted. "I'm not, and I never claimed to be, the miracle doctor's apprentice. People assumed, but I never denied or confirmed it."

"Still, I'm not interested in your… activities," Austin said, walking away. He couldn't stay. Lies were lies.
