Chapter 1507
"If he's not gaining anything from the Russells, why is he so kind to them? Why can't he help me, his brother-in-law? We're family; they're not! I bet it's about money! I just don't know the details of their arrangement. I knew this bastard wasn't as upright as he seemed, and he'd hidden it well."
The more he spoke, the angrier he became, until he abruptly stood. "I need to talk to him."
As he left, Maria pursued him. "What? Don't stop me! No matter what, I'm finding him! He needs to explain! He's gone too far this time!"
"Why would I stop you? I'm coming with you!" Maria grabbed her handbag. "You're right! We need answers! We've been so good to his family, treated his daughter like our own. Rhea is jealous and distant because of it, yet he won't even grant us a project. It's not a huge favor! The treatment is appalling!"
Maria's frustration poured out, releasing years of pent-up anger. "He must explain! I even found Anastasia's miracle doctor. If not for me, his daughter would be dead!"
"It seems he doesn't love Anastasia much either," Fabian scoffed. "Doesn't he have a mistress? I bet he'll have another child with her soon. If he truly cared about Anastasia, how could he do nothing after her poisoning?"
Following Fabian, Maria stopped abruptly. "You're right! Did he pretend to care about Anastasia all these years?"
"Nothing surprising. He's good at pretending. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been fooled!" Fabian's face darkened, anger and anxiety warring within him. If he didn't get this project, he needed compensation. Failure meant game over for the Moore family.
The couple drove to Cameron's house. They entered without difficulty, but Cameron wasn't home.
"Uncle Fabian. Aunt Maria."
Anastasia appeared, startling them. They hadn't seen her in a while; she'd lost considerable weight. Standing in the sunlight, her fair skin was even more noticeable. Though still somewhat plump, she was much slimmer.
"A-Anastasia?" Fabian exclaimed, incredulous.
"Hi, Uncle Fabian. Hi Aunt Maria." Anastasia invited them in.
Regaining their composure, they exchanged a look before entering. Then they heard Anastasia. "Uncle Fabian, why didn't you and Rhea come together earlier?"
"Rhea?" Maria was confused until she saw Rhea sitting on the couch, clearly having been there a while.
