Chapter 1524
"Old man!" she called solemnly. "This is important! Do you really want your only grandnephew to have been murdered?"
Dominic pouted, like a scolded child. Worried, but maintaining a tough exterior, he mumbled, "All right then. What kind of lousy research institute would do such a horrible thing?"
Lily shared his sentiment. If she had known the institute's true nature, she wouldn't have joined. "However," she mused, "when I backed out, the experiment didn't stop. It shows the project is more complex than I initially thought."
"I think the research institute is just a local base; they're likely operating elsewhere," Lily said thoughtfully.
"What?!" Dominic exclaimed, shocked.
"There's strict law enforcement in our country," Lily continued solemnly. "Although the lab is connected to the pandemic, I suspect the virus might not have originated here. That's just a suspicion, though. I've asked someone to investigate. I feel the government might have noticed something, but we're unaware of it."
Patting his head, Dominic frowned. "This is giving me a headache! I'm too old for complicated things. Young people like you should look into it."
"So, I have to ask you to take care of Galen for a few more days," Lily added as an afterthought. "I'll only take him back after I settle these affairs."
"What?" Dominic's eyes widened. He opened his mouth to speak, then changed his mind, waving dismissively. "Fine! I guess it's just my bad luck."
"If you're unwilling, then Iโฆ" Lily smiled, but Dominic curtly interrupted.
"Then what? Where do you plan to take your son? I know you and your husband want to save the world and keep getting yourselves into trouble, but don't drag Galen into this! Do you know how old he is? He will stay here and not go anywhere!"
"Okay!" Lily readily agreed.
Dominic paused, a thought striking him. Why do I feel like I was tricked?
A thud. His stomach convulsed, and he doubled over in pain. The blood on his lips was still wet. Unable to withstand the pain, he crouched, but remained silent.
"This is just a minor punishment," a masked man said coldly, his husky voice unnerving. "If you get up to your little tricks again, you'll not be the one who suffers from punches and hardship."
