Melanie hadn't expected Jenny's retort. Lily, meanwhile, simply stood by, denying Melanie any satisfaction. Increasingly furious, Melanie declared, "You think Rebirth is so great? It's just a small subsidiary of La Beauté, no better than MN Inc. Besides, no one at La Beauté can compare to Mr. Moreau." Lily noticed Melanie proudly holding Frank's arm as she spoke. "All right, Mel, let's not waste time. We should focus on why we're here." Frank, though uninvolved in their argument, expressed his contempt through his words.
"You're right. Let's go! This place even smells bad," Melanie said, waving a hand and covering her nose as they left, as if genuinely repelled by the odor. Jenny was dumbfounded. "What a weirdo," she said to Lily. "She started the smear campaign and acts all high and mighty. How did you even become friends with her?"
Lily reflected, "Yes, how could I have been friends with someone like that? I was completely fooled by her act." "Let's not talk about her. It's pointless," Lily said lightly. "Let's go inside. Aren't you thirsty?" "Yes, yes! I almost forgot. I'm still so angry with her!" Jenny exclaimed, admitting her lingering frustration.
As Melanie and Frank headed toward the nursery, she continued to ponder the encounter. The presence of Lily and Jenny suggested Rebirth was also seeking supplies. Melanie plotted to return to the hall, discover their needs, and purchase everything before them.
It was infuriating! Why did Lily seem to get everything she wanted? Despite being ousted from the company, she remained connected to Rebirth and appeared content. The lawsuit with MN Inc. and the online smear campaign hadn't affected her at all. She was still thriving.
Why? Why?!
Melanie couldn't let it go. She had to surpass Lily, to be more beautiful and dazzling.
"Mel, what are you thinking?" Frank stopped and turned to her.
Snapping back to reality, Melanie replied, "I'm thinking they're probably here for supplies. I don't know what they're looking for, so I'm not sure if it'll be the same as what we need."
