Chapter 158
"Sure," Lily decided. "Lily, I think we should reconsider this," Jenny said. As Lily's superior officer, Jenny felt responsible for reminding her colleague to be cautious. However, she couldn't reject Lily's decision, given Lily's confidence and willingness to use her own salary.
"If you feel this decision is unsuitable, I can purchase it myself," Lily offered. She didn't have much money, but she could borrow some. "Okay then." Jenny ceased her persuasion and turned to Ben. "You must give us your best, most authentic items. No low-quality goods, understand?" "Don't worry," Ben assured them. "We couldn't provide low-quality items even if we tried; they're too unique. We'd need to cultivate replacements before using anything inferior."
"That's best," Jenny said.
The two women left the nursery after signing the contract and paying the deposit. At the entrance, they noticed a car similar to their own, but a different color. As they got into their vehicle, they saw Melanie exiting another car with Frank; her arm was around his.
"Lily, get in and close the door. The b*tch is here," Jenny muttered, already seated. Lily was speechless; she hadn't known Jenny had a humorous side.
Melanie saw them. Upon realizing Lily was entering a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, her resentment was palpable. However, the driver sped off, avoiding a confrontation. Jenny glanced back to see Melanie still glaring with bitterness. Smiling, Jenny shook her head. "Lily, did she steal your boyfriend, or vice versa? She looks like you stole her boyfriend and killed her family."
"I'm not that bored, or cruel," Lily replied.
"Haha! You're right. But she looks like that. Why does she hate you so much? She gives you death stares every time she sees you," Jenny joked. Melanie's feelings were a mystery. Lily shook her head; she wouldn't have known about Melanie's hostility without discovering Nathaniel's affair.
Although not close, some people considered Lily and Melanie good friends because Lily was socially reserved and only had Melanie and Nathaniel in her circle during university.
Nathaniel had told Lily that Melanie's talents were crucial for the company's development, citing her public relations and research skills, including her ability to accompany him to public events. Lily hadn't minded; she felt she hadn't wronged Melanie, making Melanie's resentment inexplicable.
