Chapter 1707
Elijahโs hope was swiftly crushed by reality. Lily shook her head remorsefully. "I can't figure it out. The drug's properties have completely integrated with his body. It's been too long; there's no way to reverse it."
"How can that be?!" Lily's words struck Elijah like a blow. He paled, turning to Dominic in a panic. "Uncle Dom, talk to me! You have a solution, don't you? You're the miracle doctor! You've saved so many people. You must be able to save Austin, right?"
Dominic sighed, his expression speaking volumes. Lily intervened, "On the bright side, the poison isn't deadly. He won't dieโฆ for now."
"What do you mean, 'for now'? What bright side?! In his condition, he might as well be dead!" Elijah gestured upstairs, his heart aching, struggling to maintain control. The situation overwhelmed his carefully constructed emotional defenses, releasing a torrent of feeling. His past efforts to control his emotions for his wife's sake crumbled.
"Indeed, death would end his suffering," Lily acknowledged.
"This catalyst accelerates human cell growth, violating fundamental laws. Human intervention is agonizing," she explained. "I can only prescribe pain relief for now. A complete solution is difficult."
"At least he won't be in pain," Elijah murmured, then his eyes lit up. Hope flickered anew. "It's better than constant torture. At least reduce his pain."
"Don't worry. The old manโฆ" Lily paused, glancing at Dominic, who coughed lightly. She quickly corrected herself. "Mr. Dominic has prepared a decoction to ease Austin's pain. Hopefully, it will delay and lessen the frequency of his attacks while we find a solution."
"That's great!" Elijah nodded repeatedly, turning to Dominic with gratitude. "Uncle Dom, I entrust Austin to you! I will repay you for your kindness!"
"Please! Who needs your repayment?!" Dominic retorted, his tone disgusted.
Elijah ignored him; his uncle's gruffness was familiar. Dominic gestured upstairs. "Would you like to go upstairsโฆ see him? Afterward, I'll be performing acupuncture and administering a decoction, so I can't be disturbed."
Elijah snapped to attention. "Okay, I'll go take a look!"
Passing Lily, he paused, turning to say softly, "Thank you, too." She smiled faintly.
After he left, she tucked her hair behind her ear, turning to the older man. "What do you think, old man?"
Dominic raised an eyebrow. "Bring that little brat home! He's ruined too many of my treasures!"
