Chapter 1730
Olivia walked over. Seeing her outstretched hands, Edward hesitated, wanting to ask her intentions before feeling an involuntary surge forward. She rolled her wheelchair to the couch, plopped down, and then repositioned it to face him.
Edward was stunned.
"Edward, there's something I've wanted to tell you for days, but I didn't know how," Olivia began, her words slightly slurred, likely due to alcohol. She pulled at his wheelchair with one hand while holding up a beer can with the other. "Don't you feel that you've become ill-tempered since you returned? It's almost as if you've turned into a different person!" She tilted her head back and took another swig.
"Oh? Have I?" Edward replied coldly, his brow furrowed.
"You have!" Olivia insisted. "At first, I thought you were just in a bad mood because of your injuries, and I understood that. But you've grown crankier and crankier day after day. You've never acted like this before! You never yell at me or tell me what to do, let alone make me cry. Now, seeing me bleeding, you don't even care!"
Shaking her injured hand, she pouted, feeling mistreated. "Who wouldn't get injured or bleed?" Edward remained cold, looking down at his own body. "I was wounded and bleeding, and you saw it." Olivia was speechless.
'I did, but how could he say that? In the past, he would shower me with concern if I even scraped my skin, but now he feels nothing watching me bleed!'
"Fine, let's not talk about it. What about you and Alexander?" She waved her hands dismissively, changing the subject. "You told me he pushed you in front of him to take the bullets, and that's why you were nearly killed. You also said he left you behind in Burnkwen to save his own skin. I believed all that because you said it! I believed you! However, why didn't you confront him when they arrived just now? Why didn't you counter what he said? Whyโฆ"
"What's there to talk about?" Edward said impatiently. "What could I do if he doesn't admit it? What proof do I have that he pushed me? We both know what happened, and since he won't admit it, I've nothing to say."
Olivia, momentarily stumped, felt he had a point. 'However, Alexander and Lily looked confident, and I've known them for a long time. Having been with them for ages, wouldn't I know their characters? Also, what Alexander said made sense.' "Still, he was right that it's not the first time you've taken bullets or knives for him. He knew you would willingly give up your life for him. Why would he do such a thing? It just doesn't add up!"
Before Olivia could finish, Edward interrupted rudely. "Enough! If you think what he says is true and that I'm lying, then leave! I have nothing to say! If you choose to believe him over me, stay with him!" If Olivia was upset before, she now felt a sharp pang of pain, as if stabbed in the heart.
