"Really?" Alexander was doubtful.
"Really!" She nodded emphatically, raising her hand again lest he disbelieve her. "Should I swear?"
Seeing his silent observation, Lily continued, "I swear, if I don't rest well when I go home, I willโ"
Alexander immediately interrupted. "Don't say it!" he scolded fiercely. "Why do you keep swearing? Who taught you that?!"
"Are you going to believe me now? Can I go home?" Lily smiled, lowering her hand.
She knew his distress and reluctance. She hadn't wanted to swear, but it seemed her only recourse. What a joke! Hospitalization felt like imprisonment. Boredom aside, she had so much to do outside. She could try to pace herself, but she couldn't ignore her responsibilities.
How could Alexander not understand? He knew her too well, hence his unease. He wanted to force her rest through hospitalization.
He looked deeply at her, at the slyness in her eyes and the gentle smile on her face. Even knowing this, he couldn't refuse her. Faced with her request, he was helpless.
"Okay, but you said it yourself. You must rest. Don't overwork yourself. You're not just living for yourself anymore. Besides the babies, we also have Galen, who needs you." This was Alexander's last resort, leveraging the children to prioritize her health.
Lily nodded. "I know."
Leaving the hospital, Alexander worriedly requested the doctor prescribe pregnancy-safe medication, delaying their departure slightly. Lily waited at the gate. He could have delegated this, but his concern compelled him to do it himself. Seeing him run around for her made her feel incredibly lucky.
While she'd been with someone less than ideal in the past, Alexander was perfect for her. She hoped their difficulties would soon pass, allowing their family to live safely and happily.
Supporting her waist with one hand and gently stroking her abdomen with the other, she turned and saw someone standing before her. Her smile vanished instantly. She subconsciously stepped back, saying flatly, "What a coincidence."
"It's not. I came to find you," Mike said bluntly.
"Find me? Are you trying to drug me again?" Lily mocked, a light snort escaping her lips.
