Chapter 1774
"What a joke! Why would I deceive you? What good would that do?" Anastasia scoffed, glancing at the men Fabian had brought to her house.
"Uncle Fabian," she began, "I understand your concern, but your arrival with so many people is rather... forceful. Have you considered our feelings? If my father is unwell, shouldn't a visit be more delicate? Besides, even if I were lying, and Father weren't here, he would eventually return. What do you think he'll do when he discovers your actions today?"
Fabian shivered at her casual remark. Cameron's icy gaze flashed in his mind, sobering him. He subconsciously stepped back, then hesitated, looking suspiciously at Anastasia before asking, "Is your father truly ill? What is wrong with him?"
Anastasia bit her lip. "He's overworked, weak, and needs rest."
"Really?" Fabian pressed. "Has he seen a doctor? Which hospital? Are they reputable? If not, we should move him to a better facility before his condition worsens."
Seeing Fabian's intention to go upstairs, Anastasia quickly interjected, "He's seeing his usual doctorโa very reliable person. Don't forget who my father is; he doesn't just go to any hospital."
"That's true," Fabian conceded, "but I wouldn't take him to just any doctor, either. Since I'm here, I should see him. I can't leave without doing so, can I?"
He remained suspicious, sensing Anastasia's evasiveness. He hadn't seen Cameron for days; calls went unanswered. Rumors circulatedโCameron was dying, missing, or even arrested. None of it was confirmed publicly. Rhea's death had already been a devastating blow, and these rumors only compounded his distress. How can I leave without knowing what's happening? he thought.
"Uncle Fabian," Anastasia frowned, "Father said he's not seeing anyone. Are you truly ignoring him?"
Fabian cleared his throat, glancing behind him before turning back to Anastasia. "Girl, I'm not an outsider or a busybody. Have you heard the rumors circulating lately about your father, given his absence?" He lowered his voice, moving closer as he spoke.
Anastasia pursed her lips, remaining silent.
Fabian's eyes shifted. "Of course, I wouldn't believe those baseless gossips, but your father is my brother-in-law. I'm sure he wouldn't mind a visit, especially since he's unwell. Or," he added, "if there's anything you can't share with others, tell me. I might be able to offer some advice."
Anastasia had heard the rumors. She saw her uncle wouldn't relent, glancing at the men in the living room before smiling at Fabian. "Do you sincerely want to see my father?"
