Anastasia's reaction confirmed Alexander's suspicions. If he didn't clear the air today, his visit would be a waste of time.
"Alex..." Anastasia's voice, hesitant and nervous, trembled slightly. She rose and followed him. "Don'tโ"
"Tasia, what happened? What happened to your father?!" Alexander's gaze was sharp as he questioned her. "Is there anything else you're hiding from me?!"
"No..." she mumbled, biting her lip, unable to continue.
Alexander scrutinized her before abruptly sprinting upstairs. His speed left her unable to react immediately.
"Alex..." she called, hurrying after him, but she fell behind.
Alexander knew the way and went straight to Cameron's bedroom. The door was closed, but he didn't hesitate. In the face of danger, politeness was unnecessary. He flung it open, finding the room empty.
Startled, he turned to Anastasia, who had caught up. "Where is he?"
She remained silent.
Alexander, seeking answers, searched each room, finding them all unoccupied, the beds undisturbed.
Anastasia finally broke down. "Alex, you don't have to keep searching. My dad isn't here."
"Then where is he?" He shook his phone. "I tried calling him, but he didn't answer. Where is he? Did something happen?"
"No, no!" she cried, her panic evident, but her hesitation didn't escape Alexander.
"Anastasia Rollins!" He'd never used her full name before, usually addressing her as "Ms. Rollins," or simply "Tasia," treating her almost like a younger sister. But his fury was unrestrained. They'd endured so much lately, especially with Cameron's recent recovery from poisoning, yet here she was, hedging, infuriating him. Anastasia fell silent, tears streaming down her face. The silence, punctuated only by her quiet weeping, was unbearable for Alexander to witness. "You..." He paused, anger momentarily checked by a suspicion that something serious had occurred.
"Alex, my father... disappeared," Anastasia sobbed, her tears flowing relentlessly.
"What did you say?!" Alexander's shock was palpable. "What do you mean disappeared? How can a full-grown adult just disappear?"
