"So, whoever met with your father is the prime suspect." After pondering this, Alexander realized that while it sounded bizarre, it wasn't impossible. Cameron was already the organization's target; they had poisoned him through Rhea to control him and achieve their goals. Their first step had been seizing the research facility as a stronghold in Hyderland before conducting their insane experiments. No one knew what their next step would be.
However, Alexander felt their desire to control Cameron went beyond simply seizing the facility. He sensed a larger conspiracy.
"Yes, I think so too, but I don't know who wanted to meet with Dad," Anastasia said, frowning in confusion.
Alexander studied her; she didn't seem to be pretending. Still, one thing puzzled him. "If that's the case, why did you hide your father's disappearance, and why did you hide it from me?"
He understood her fear of causing panic, leading to unforeseen consequences. After all, she was a young girl, lost and alone, just as she had been when Cameron was under Rhea's control. Yet, he still wondered why she'd hidden it from him and acted as if she were being watched.
"I'm sorry," she said softly. "I didn't mean to, but I received a call last night."
"What call?"
"I don't know. The person was probably using a voice changer. They said Dad was in their hands. They warned that if I wanted Dad to be safe, I..." She paused, struggling to control her emotions. Her hands, clutching her cup, were pale. "If I wanted to keep Dad safe, I had to keep this a secret and not tell anyone."
Anastasia looked at Alexander with trepidation. "Alex, is my dad in danger now that I've told you?"
"Danger?" After a moment, Alexander asked, "Did this person make any other demands, like extortion?" Such situations usually involved extortion or similar demandsโintimidation followed by extortion. To his surprise, Anastasia shook her head. "No! They warned me not to tell anyone and said I couldn't call the police. They didn't make any other requests."
"No requests?" Alexander frowned. "They really didn't make any other requests?"
Anastasia nodded vigorously, looking very sure.
Alexander fell silent. No requests meant they weren't after money. But if they hadn't kidnapped Cameron for money, what was their motive?
Abducting Cameron was incredibly risky, considering who he was. The risk of abducting the wealthiest man on Earth might be less than abducting Cameron. And this wasn't a typical abduction; the person had lured Cameron out with a single call, convincing him to leave his bodyguards behind.
The first suspect Alexander considered was the organization.
"Then, how are you sure your father is in their hands? How do you know they're not scamming you?" he asked after a while.
