Chapter 1998
That was all Alexander could say. Besides several aides, he had only contacted Anastasia since leaving Dominic's estate. Therefore, Anastasia might have been infected if the virus was contagious. However, he couldn't confirm it without concrete evidence, lest she panicked.
Anastasia considered her symptoms when Alexander suggested her information could be helpful. "Oh, I seem allergic to something, but I didn't worry about it, as my skin's always been sensitive," she explained. Alexander asked, "You're having an allergic reaction?"
"Yes," she replied. "There are some red spots, but they aren't itchy. I've had them before; they disappear eventually."
"Any other discomfort?" Alexander asked.
This time, Anastasia was confident. "No. The cold and fever are mild; my temperature hasn't gone above 101.3 degrees Fahrenheit. I don't think it's serious." She added tentatively, "Alex, did something happen?"
"No, don't worry. Anyway, I'll continue searching for your father," Alexander said.
"Okay," Anastasia said nasally. "Let's keep in touch."
Alexander hung up, but felt no relief. He recalled, 'Dominic's servants also had colds and fevers initially. Even Galen had a fever, though he recovered quickly and experienced no other symptoms.'
When Dominic regained consciousness, he'd stated Galen hadn't been infected. While the older man didn't know why, it was good news. However, Galen might be an exception; it didn't mean others wouldn't contract the illness. Indeed, Dominic's servants were still unwell, which explained the estate's gloomy atmosphere. Although their symptoms were less severe, they experienced various discomforts.
Fortunately, the virus hadn't spread widely, and there wasn't widespread panic. Alexander knew he must take this seriously and prevent widespread transmission, despite his limited knowledge of the virus. 'Tasia's symptoms seem similar, but I can't be certain.'
After considering this, Alexander looked at his desk, then stood, grabbed his jacket, and headed for his private elevator, making a call. "Get a car ready. I'm going to the Rollins' residence." The limited information he'd gathered over the phone made a personal visit necessary to assess Anastasia's condition. Besides, he needed to search for clues about Cameron's disappearance. Alexander found Cameron's vanishing as perplexing as Lily'sโboth seemed to have vanished without a trace.
'I have spies across the country. They couldn't have disappeared so easily. Unlessโฆ they've been removed by unconventional means!'
