"Yes, yes!" Dominic replied impatiently. "What do you take me for? Don't forgetโI'm a miracle doctor! If I can't solve this problem, won't it tarnish the reputation I've built over the years?"
Alexander breathed a sigh of relief at the affirmative response. He believed in Dominic. Dominic had been clinging to life, frail and in and out of consciousness. Alexander's worry had been genuine, fueled by the uncertainties surrounding the symbiote virus. However, now confident that the older man and Austin had found a solution, his hesitation vanished.
"Okay, I understand. I have some matters to attend to, so I won'tโ"
Before Alexander could finish, Dominic interjected, "What do you understand? I'm asking you what you and Lily are up to. When will you come here?"
After some thought, Alexander replied, "Not anytime soon."
"Ah, forget you. Lily has been missing for days. What's happening?" Dominic hadn't had time to consider anything while battling illness and a clouded mind. Now, relieved of the virus and gradually improving, he realized it had been too long since he'd heard from Lily, especially since she was close to giving birth. Her disappearance was deeply concerning.
"She..." Alexander closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and said, "In any case, I'll ensure she returns safely."
"It's not about that, and it's not about me. It's for yourself, for your son!" Dominic said sincerely. "All right, I called to tell you not to worry. Finish what you have and return to take the little brat away!"
"I don't want to leave! I don't want to!" Galen finally spoke, clutching the older man's beard.
Alexander was ecstatic to hear his son's voice, but this wasn't the time for idle chatter. "You must listen to Grandpa, okay? Mommy and Daddy will finish work soon, and we'll come to pick you up." Dominic added, "Okay, enough talk. Come quickly! Also, the virus's transmission is likely random, not deterministic, though it probably spreads more frequently through constant contact."
Alexander was puzzled. "But I have a friend who wasn't in frequent contact with me, yet she still got infected."
"Let me finish. It's not just frequent contactโa weakened immune system is another condition. People who are particularly tired or sick are more susceptible. The virus takes advantage of vulnerability. It doesn't cause direct death but weakens the body when it flares up. Attacks are more frequent at night. Still, you don't need to worry about the details. I've already contacted the industry and had Austin spread the word. We're looking for infected individuals and helping to detoxify them."
Alexander's worries finally lifted. Dominic had done him a great service. Not only had the older man recovered, but he'd also alleviated Alexander's future concerns. Alexander, previously burdened by Dominic and Austin's situation, could now focus on the present without distraction or hesitation. He nodded, saying, "Okay, understood. Please watch your health, old man!"
A smile involuntarily touched his lips, lightening his mood.
